Theo James To Play George Michael

Writer James Williams

Actor Theo James has been tipped to play George Michael in a biopic about the English singer songwriter. The $104 million film about Michael has been endorsed by the singer's family after the success of other recent music biopics about Elton John and Queen's Freddie Mercury

As good-looking as Theo James is, he doesn't come close to George Michael in his prime. Sorry.

by Anonymousreply 4January 16, 2023 12:42 AM

r4, do you really think the point of biopics is to exactly re-create people's looks?

by Anonymousreply 5January 16, 2023 12:47 AM

Wow, George Michael would be flattered, because Theo James is wayyyyy hotter than underbite George.

by Anonymousreply 7January 16, 2023 12:49 AM

Who else would you suggest, R6? They obviously don’t want a newcomer.

by Anonymousreply 8January 16, 2023 12:49 AM

R5, I know that's not the main point of creating a biopic, but if the actor playing a famous pop star looks nothing like them, it is hard to buy them in the role. (See Naomi Ackie as Whitney Houston in I Wanna Dance With Somebody.)

by Anonymousreply 9January 16, 2023 12:51 AM

I am very excited for this,

by Anonymousreply 10January 16, 2023 12:52 AM

$104 million? Are they going to be using actual cocaine or something?

by Anonymousreply 11January 16, 2023 12:52 AM

This sounds promising, interesting.

by Anonymousreply 12January 16, 2023 12:54 AM

I hope they don't shy away from his sexuality like in Bohemian Rhapsody with Freddie Mercury.

by Anonymousreply 13January 16, 2023 12:55 AM

I've never seen a biopic I didn't hate. They're so cheesy. The fake melodrama of film dialogue comes off as a lot more uncanny and jarring to me when the characters are based on reality.

by Anonymousreply 14January 16, 2023 12:56 AM

[quote]I hope they don't shy away from his sexuality like in Bohemian Rhapsody with Freddie Mercury.

“Apparently, Michael's drug addiction and scandals will also be covered in the film - including the singer being caught soliciting for sex in a public toilet.”

by Anonymousreply 15January 16, 2023 12:57 AM

Who plays his gold digging BF at the end?

by Anonymousreply 16January 16, 2023 1:01 AM

R8 perhaps it's not something that needs to be done

by Anonymousreply 17January 16, 2023 1:01 AM

With the flop of Whitney Houston's movie, on the heels of the flop of Aretha's movie last year starring Jennifer Hudson, why are they continuing with these musical biopics ?

by Anonymousreply 18January 16, 2023 1:06 AM

I just want to see Theo James simulate gay sex.

by Anonymousreply 19January 16, 2023 1:09 AM

Hollywood always follows a formula when one or two examples are proven to be successful (e.g., Bohemian Rhapsody, Rocket Man).

by Anonymousreply 20January 16, 2023 1:09 AM

Poor,George! Gone too soon.

by Anonymousreply 21January 16, 2023 1:12 AM

I saw him in his co-leading role in Sanditon (as well as his naked cheeks) and he just didn't bring any heat to the role in my opinion. Not convinced he's capable of handling the scope of the role.

by Anonymousreply 22January 16, 2023 1:16 AM

They're both Brits with Greek heritage, so I guess it makes sense.

by Anonymousreply 23January 16, 2023 1:39 AM

Its a good choice for looks. Theo is better looking. He's not the greatest actor but seems to be getting better. Theo at 38 is too old to play young George, however. George was slim when he became a superstar

by Anonymousreply 24January 16, 2023 1:47 AM

Yes! I want more straight actors playing gay icons.

by Anonymousreply 26January 16, 2023 2:08 AM

Cool, he is of Greek descent, too, like George

by Anonymousreply 28January 16, 2023 2:13 AM

Who cares. What I want to know is who will be cast as Shady Fadi?

by Anonymousreply 29January 16, 2023 2:14 AM

Who will be cast as Andrew?

by Anonymousreply 30January 16, 2023 2:15 AM

[quote]Who cares. What I want to know is who will be cast as Shady Fadi?

Sam Asghari has real-life goldigging experience, does he act?

by Anonymousreply 31January 16, 2023 2:16 AM

Why so expensive? They could film the whole thing on Hampstead Heath.

by Anonymousreply 32January 16, 2023 2:18 AM

[quote]Actor Theo James has been tipped to play George Michael in a biopic

He’s been tipped, OP? Is the movie company going to pay him also, or should he be satisfied with only the tip?

by Anonymousreply 33January 16, 2023 2:28 AM

[quote] I saw him in his co-leading role in Sanditon

That show was a tedious disaster on all counts. It was marketed for Vicki Pollards.

And the Greek-Cypriot star didn't have his Arse-Stand-In for the brief semi-nude scene.

by Anonymousreply 35January 16, 2023 2:37 AM

Why don’t I see any men who look like him when I visit Greece? He is soooo fucking hot.

by Anonymousreply 36January 16, 2023 2:37 AM

The resemblance isn't great, but it's good enough.

I'm not familiar with the guy, can he act or just pout? Is he gay enough to understand GM?

[quote]Is he gay enough to understand GM?

What?

by Anonymousreply 40January 16, 2023 2:51 AM

He was good in "The White Lotus."

by Anonymousreply 41January 16, 2023 2:53 AM

Theo James is not getting any younger. His star is dimming. 38. Never reached superstar status. No Thank you.

by Anonymousreply 42January 16, 2023 3:04 AM

I think the budgets for both Freddy Mercury and Elton John's biopics wasn't even $104 million combined. Did they convince Theo to have actual gay sex or something?

by Anonymousreply 43January 16, 2023 3:07 AM

A George Michael biopic. LOL.

by Anonymousreply 44January 16, 2023 3:14 AM

Are there no talented good looking gay actors?

by Anonymousreply 45January 16, 2023 3:17 AM

[quote]Did they convince Theo to have actual gay sex or something?

One can only hope.

by Anonymousreply 46January 16, 2023 3:20 AM

What's wire hangers doing in this closet when I told you: no wire hangers ever?!

Ya know, I was offered the part and the producers said I’d be perfect for it, but I turned it down. I had other plans.

by Anonymousreply 48January 16, 2023 3:24 AM

And Theo is too old to play George in his twenties.

by Anonymousreply 50January 16, 2023 3:27 AM

I saw Theo James in person once at a hotel lobby when he was going a press junket; his sweater couldn't hide his muscles, his beautiful back, his lats. I caught a quick look from behind and I thought this guy just oozes sex and beauty.

by Anonymousreply 51January 16, 2023 3:29 AM

R51 is Theo James Gay Assistant.

by Anonymousreply 52January 16, 2023 3:33 AM

[quote] this guy just oozes sex and beauty

Really r51? Please provide a title for any movie that shows off his sex oozing. The few things I've seen him in haven't done him any favors on that front. I'm being serious, I'd love some examples.

by Anonymousreply 53January 16, 2023 3:35 AM

Will Chi Chi direct the tea room scenes?

by Anonymousreply 54January 16, 2023 3:38 AM

Who will play the guy in the Beverly Hills park restroom?

by Anonymousreply 55January 16, 2023 3:39 AM

R52, I WISH!

R53, I haven't seen a ton of his work; I thought he was pretty sexy in his one Downton Abbey appearance and I thought he was hot in Golden Boy or whatever that boxing series was.

I can appreciate him not jumping off the screen to everyone - but in person, I was quickly mesmerized.

Just my opinion. In talk shows, he's come off kind of goofy though.

by Anonymousreply 56January 16, 2023 3:42 AM

R55 George Santos. Who else ?

by Anonymousreply 57January 16, 2023 3:50 AM

They approached me to play the lead, but, due to my modesty, I had to turn it down

by Anonymousreply 58January 16, 2023 3:53 AM

I love that Theo James being asked by a random on WWHL if he would play George Michael in a biopic somehow turned into him being tipped to play him.

George Santos at R59, do you lie so much that you forgot you already posted at R48?

by Anonymousreply 60January 16, 2023 3:59 AM

[Quote]With the flop of Whitney Houston's movie, on the heels of the flop of Aretha's movie last year starring Jennifer Hudson, why are they continuing with these musical biopics ?

For the same reasons there are so many remakes and sequel. Lack of imagination, talent and originality.

by Anonymousreply 61January 16, 2023 4:02 AM

R60 You must be confusing me with someone else.

by Anonymousreply 62January 16, 2023 4:03 AM

I think Theo James is a great actor and will slay in this.

by Anonymousreply 63January 16, 2023 4:14 AM

btw according to IMDB Theo was the lead singer of multiple bands, including, Makora and Shere Khan. He can play the guitar, harmonica, saxophone and piano.

by Anonymousreply 64January 16, 2023 4:20 AM

Shere , Shere, Shere Khan

Shere Khan, Shere Khan, Shere Khan

Shere Khan, let me rock you

Let me rock you, Shere Khan

by Anonymousreply 65January 16, 2023 5:47 AM

Yes R53 Theo is a steaming Hollywood hunk of man sex now in is ripe 30s. It's on display in White Lotus for anyone interested.

by Anonymousreply 66January 16, 2023 8:18 AM

That was a prosthetic, r66.

by Anonymousreply 67January 16, 2023 5:47 PM

This is a dumb question but wasn't there a thread on here a while ago that was called "Theo James... Theo James... Theo James"?

by Anonymousreply 68January 16, 2023 5:58 PM

I wasn't describing only the fake dick.

by Anonymousreply 69January 16, 2023 6:01 PM

[quote]this guy just oozes

There's a cream for that.

by Anonymousreply 70January 16, 2023 6:31 PM

I’d love to see Pedro Pascal play George Michael.

by Anonymousreply 71February 5, 2023 5:24 AM

I’d love to see Niko Antonyan play George Michael.

He's good for nude scenes and outdoor fornicating.

Speaking of biopics, where is Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein movie with Matt Bomer?

by Anonymousreply 75February 5, 2023 10:31 AM

[quote]Theo to have actual gay sex

Fuck, I hope so!

by Anonymousreply 76February 5, 2023 10:31 AM

R75 Comes out in the fall on Netflix.

by Anonymousreply 77February 5, 2023 10:34 AM

Not everyone needs a biopic.

by Anonymousreply 78February 5, 2023 10:54 AM

I just saw Cooper interviewing Cate Blanchett, Nina Hoss, and Todd Field, and there were several mentions of the Bernstein biopic he has in the works. He loves Tar.

by Anonymousreply 79February 5, 2023 11:03 AM

Well I really fucking hope that its a better biopic than the recent Elvis one and better than the Elton John, Johnny Cash, Freddie Mercury and Whitney ones. They all fell short. The George Jones and Tammy Wynette series could have been better too, although I really like Michael Shannon. Shit I think its time they started getting peoples stories right or at least entertaining. Jesus, now there's gonna gonna be a Michael Jackson movie. I hope they don't fuck it up too.

by Anonymousreply 81February 5, 2023 12:04 PM

R81 Your thought on Fosse/Verdon?

by Anonymousreply 82February 5, 2023 12:26 PM

R82, fantastic. I loved Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams together and I loved Sam Rockwell especially. I never expected him for that part, but I enjoyed that series. I really didn't think I would coming from Ryan Murphy.

by Anonymousreply 83February 5, 2023 1:07 PM

R82, Their sex life must have been incredible back in the day, with those two dancer’s bodies and Fosse’s big dick.

by Anonymousreply 84February 5, 2023 1:07 PM

Who will be his Andrew Ridgely on this project, that is crucial? And did they share beds and handjobs on tour?
