Size 8 hat when XL is 7.5. The costume designer on Brokeback Mountain said his head weighed 40 pounds (in the context of finding hats that minimized the size of his head relative to his body.)

Siskel and Ebert (or maybe just Ebert) did a story on this years ago. Clint Eastwood was the example. There was a photo of him standing in the back of a group of men, yet his face was larger than the guys in the front row. Dominating the group = star power.

In addition to looking better on camera a head that appears large relative to body size is a neotenous trait. Humans are drawn to other humans and to animals that have neotenous traits such as big heads and large eyes.

When Bernadette Peters played Sally in Follies, I couldn't believe how big her head was in proportion to her body. It could have been the way her hair was styled, but she looked almost dwarf like. No offense to dwarfs who are reading this.

r14 That is an example of so many things--big head, wide forehead, long neck (not the attractive kind). Even her breasts look like they're placed too low. Not sagging, just placed too low. And the way she's standing, it looks like one knee is higher than the other. Dafuq, it's like Wednesday Addams reflected on a fun mirror.
