Why does it seem like DL hates Beyonce?
William Jenkins
Why does it seem like a good percentage, compared the rest of the population, doesn't really like Beyonce? IRL so many people I know think she's wonderful in every way. I'm a little ambivalent on her. Talented, hard-working, but I get the feeling that she's the Diana Ross or Whitney Houston of our times. And that means a lot of different things to different people, I'm sure. I just think she's just on the whole pretty overrated.
| by Anonymous | reply 112 | February 16, 2022 7:24 PM |
She's marginally talented, not very attractive, gigantic ass, huge thighs. Wants to win an Oscar, but can't act.
And ask any of the former Destiny's Child members - she's a diva cunt.
| by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 29, 2022 12:41 AM |
She moderately talented but she's always been a product, there's no real organic creativity coming from her. She's not in the league of Tina Turner, Whitney Houston or even Diana Ross who all had something unique and special about them.
| by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 29, 2022 12:43 AM |
Because she is someone who has been trying to be a superstar forever and is not. She is also married to a moron!
| by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 29, 2022 12:43 AM |
She is actually quite beautiful.
I was uninterested in her until I saw her in concert with Jay-Z. She is amazing live and really sells her performance. Didn’t expect to enjoy her but she really was great!
| by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 29, 2022 2:48 AM |
Can’t stand her. Shrill, vulgar and derivative. I liked Crazy in Love but who didn’t. I hate her stans even more. They brag about hurting people who don’t share their love for their precious Beyoncé.

R6 That sentence is way too articulate for Cardi B.
| by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 29, 2022 8:13 PM |
I think R2 captures what it is about Beyonce that just doesn't work for me. There's something controlled and artificial about her performances, unlike someone like Tina who would passionately throw herself into each and every performance. (Beyonce's recent ad for Tiffany captures the contrivance - I'm goddess. Bow down and worship me!) Plus, I simply don't care for her voice. She's signing in a range I don't find appealing.
| by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 29, 2022 8:45 PM |
She's a good performer. That's where it ends. The over-the-top worship of her is fucking insane. Most of her music the past 15 years has been meh and she can't act.
The whole diva shit with having her ugly baby Blue was the final straw for me. Taking up a whole hospital floor - and questionable whether she really carried the baby or not.
The adulation she's received for the past 10+ years is entirely unwarranted and way too much.

I like some of her songs but hate that she promotes Santaria. I don’t care what religion people practice with the exception of those in which animals are tortured/killed. I loathe that kind of primitive superstition. It’s 2022. Open a damn book.
| by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 29, 2022 8:56 PM |
Diana and Whitney had personality, Beyonce is completely devoid of that. I don't hate her, I actually think she's a good singer and performer, and sometimes there are even memorable performances, but overall she's just too shallow for me. She's not very bright which becomes painfully obvious during interviews and I really dislike JayZ.

Tina Turner could just walk onto a bare stage and start singing and dancing and totally captivate the audience. No special effects, elaborate staging, fireworks etc. Just Tina on a bare stage. That's fucking Talent with a capital "T."
| by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 29, 2022 9:17 PM |
I don't hate her. I think she's beautiful and one of the most talented of her generation. Unlike others like Katy, Rihanna and Britney, Beyonce actually deserves her fame. Now what I don't like is her obsession with being this queen and goddess, her declining quality trying to chase trends, hopping on Black Lives Matter and Afrocentrism for marketability, way too much emphasis on visuals over the music, showing off her wealth and Jay-Z's ugly ass, stealing ideas and taking credit for others work and letting her deranged fanbase bully others.

R12 Beyonce is a Southern Baptist. Her mom is a Creole and they don't practice Santeria, they practice voodoo. Similar but not the same. Voodoo is very tied into Catholicism. Santeria is Afro-Spanish Caribbean.

Those L’Oréal Féria commercials bugged me to infinity. Her weave was cgi’d to death.
One of her cunt Stan’s boasted about knocking down a little boy because he was in her way when she was running to get a closer look at Beyoncé at a concert. Too bad that his parents didn’t catch her. She should have been beaten to death. It’s on YouTube. Beyoncé and her team will have negative stuff about her removed from social media. But stuff like this? They don’t lift a fucking finger.

r17 It is low. Compare her to others like Christina Aguilera, Britney, Rihanna and Katy Perry. Only other who is as interesting a performer is Lady Gaga. Neither Beyonce or Gaga would survive the 1960s to 1990s with all the competition and talent. There is no competition today and that's why, Beyonce is so huge.

I don't hate Beyonce, but to me, she's always been just another face off the pop star assembly-line. No personality, no spark.
I know it's a low bar but one of the worst Super Bowl Half-Time Shows was Beyonce.
Head-ache inducing spectacle is required of the SBHT Show, but hers was just too much. It totally obscured whatever talent she may have. Plus, I'm no prude but I thought her dance moves and revealing outfits were too suggestive.
She was game in Austin Powers, I'll give her that, but Dreamgirls showed us the limits of her acting ability.
| by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 29, 2022 11:59 PM |
I like some of her recent music. She is the Madonna of now, and by that, I mean she is getting the best producers, writers and creative people to write for her.
I think she is talented and like some of her work, but like Madonna, I don't understand the orgasmic praise to the heavens.
| by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 30, 2022 12:08 AM |
I would say Beyonce, Rihanna, Ariana and Gaga are the only pop stars of the now, I actually somewhat of an interest in. Though I prefer Bey and Gaga's earlier music. I can't stand the likes of Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj or Cardi B who bore me and are talentless. I just feel bad for Britney but I don't consider her talented or groundbreaking as her stans do.
I am surprised by how fast the hype around Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa went. They do seem like one-album wonders.

She can put out a good song and sing a nice cover, and she puts on a good show. But her overall act doesn't engage me the way many other performers do, so I've never made a point of following her career. Her Twitter hive is nuts: I hate them, not their idol.

So she dressed up some like African empress and brought a FREAKING NOTEBOOK to the Grammys with her that had a speech for every Grammy she thought she was gonna win in it. Then she ended up only winning one. Ha!
This is why people don't like her.

Get out of your bubble, no one I interact with thinks this woman is anything but an overrated phony. Most are musicians so there's that.
She also uses 40 writers to come up with mediocre songs like All the Single Ladies and expects to be treated like some goddess when she's average looking at best. Janelle Monáe deserves all the praise this woman gets. Even her average talented sister Solange deserves more praise than her.
Why wouldn't people mock this woman should be the question. Biggest real life example of the Emperor's New Clothes I've ever seen.
| by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 30, 2022 1:09 PM |
Most people agree she's pretty, talented and has good songs but that's where it ends. Most don't worship her or think of her. Destiny's Child is far more beloved and people would be more interested in a reunion than any of Bey's vanity projects.
Most people only know "Single Ladies" and "Crazy in Love." R&B stations mostly play her old music like "Me, Myself and I" and "Irreplaceable."
It's interesting how the more elaborate and pretentious she's become. The less mainstream and beloved she's become. She wants critical acclaim but alienated most people except her ride-or-die stans.
I was always more of a Kelly Rowland fan and I wish she would stop kissing Bey's ass and put her music first. Bey never promotes Kelly.

No they don't. More people ignore pop divas than the other way around. Kpop is more popular than her, for starters and they're not made of mostly women, DLers are too old apparently to understand the world today and I speak from experience, my job deals with demographics and polls every week.
| by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 30, 2022 1:18 PM |
R43 True. But she was mainstream in the 2000s and most people are aware of her and her older songs do still get played. She's like Britney and Christina where she just exists to most people but most don't care anymore except her diehard fans mainly millennials. Beyonce is definitely still big in the Black and gay community but nobody else. Kpop as you've said is more mainstream with kids.
R42 As a gay black man I have no interest in defending an anti-black homophobe like Cardi B. She uses gays and Black people for clout.

All these "icons" are too manufactured on an assembly line. Too corporate. They haven't really earned any of their status. And I find it ridiculous how gay men are expected to like every female pop star. I can appreciate good pop music and I like 80s dance music, disco and electronic synth pop.
If Beyoncé still made music like on 4 where she was experimenting with soul, rhythm and blues and synthpop and showed off her vocal chops with electric guitars. I'd have more respect for her. She sold out and regressed her sound with teams of market researchers to find current trends she can exploit. It really showed she only cares about money and critical acclaim rather than making good music.

| by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 30, 2022 3:02 PM |
The 2000s, the main forum of music was the radio or MTV. Today it's Spotify and YouTube. So it's entirely possible for artists to be unknown to others who aren't in their demographic. It's all based on algorithms.
In the 2000s, everyone knew songs of Coldplay, Beyonce, Britney, Timberlake, Ciara, Taylor, 50 Cent and Christina because they were forced onto us. Bieber, Gaga and Katy were among the last pop stars of this era.
Pop music today is more niche and fan-driven. People chose what they want to hear now. So you can be in your 20s and not hear an Olivia Rodrigo or Billie Eilish or BTS song.
Pop stans think everyone likes what they like and over-exaggerate how big their idol is.

I think she's pretty but I find her selling herself as some cultured sophisticate, when she comes across as dumb as a box of rocks, and marketing herself as a brand off putting and narcissistic. I thought taking over the entire maternity ward for her daughter's birth was distasteful and then trying to trademark "Blue Ivy" the height of vanity and elitism. Get real, bitch.

Beyoncé's music is considered mediocre but her vocals were always well-received. I've never met anyone who doesn't think she's talented. They call her overrated, arrogant and overexposed but not mediocre as a singer. Most of Celine and Whitney's music output was questionable too but again they were praised for their vocal talent. Ariana is another in that similar boat of mediocre discography but talented vocals.
Ironic is I never hear people call Adele or Britney overrated but I guess they feel sorry for them. Beyoncé comes across as too perfect and I think that rubs people the wrong way more than her music itself.

R71 Really. It's funny I'm Black and they only recently acknowledged the Black community after years of snubbing the BET Awards. They spent most of the 2000s acting better than everyone. And you know damn well Jay-Z did nothing to call out homophobia, colorism and misogyny in hip-hop. Kanye did though. Beyoncé barely spoke at all in support of her gay fans in the 2000s. She only recently began to acknowledge them a few years ago. I find both of them hypocritical.
| by Anonymous | reply 76 | January 30, 2022 6:15 PM |

Madonna, Janet, Mariah, Gaga and many others have all spoke about their gay fans. I find it ridiculous that gays put Beyonce and Britney on pedestals when neither have said anything to voice support. They just accept awards from GLAAD without doing any work. Britney is from the South, a religious region of the country with a lot of homophobia and Republicans. Beyoncé being Black could voice support for the many Black gays in religious homes.

I think the reason some singers more clack than others for being overrated comes down to what it seems like they’re trying to do.
For all of Adele’s success, she’s never seemed to try to position herself to take over the world. There’s nobody really upwelling Adele. She doesn’t have queens running around shoving her down our throats. And there’s little to no grading on a curve with her. Adele can sing and usually comes up with great songs.
Britney Spears has benefited from the gay stimulus package but I think for a lot of us Britney is still that 25 year old spinning out of control and needs some help. I think when the world became so woke and cancel culture became a thing, Britney came to be known as unproblematic. She put together several years where she just did her Vegas shows and raised her kids under the conservatorship.

in lieu of royalty, Americans have celebrities... there's a lot of them competing for the title of King and Queen.
I think where you see some of turn on Beyonce and Jay Z is some feeling like they were trying to compete with the Obamas while they were in the White House. And that went back and forth between the four.. which was a little on the cringe.
for the gays, though, it was probably all the drunken hags at the club singing single ladies and that also ties into the bachelorette party drama before marriage was legalized.

You can tell it’s the racist conservatives on this forum posting the QAnon level conspiracy theory shit.

Not everyone that 👎 Beyoncé is white. I know that I’m black. Personally I think that she’s helping to dumb down R&B music. Or her handlers are at least. How are you gonna play Blak Goddess as Earth Mother with a lace front covered with baby’s breath? When she took photos of her baby shower, she was trying to rock that look. Baby’s breath on a WEAVE? And I have seen women do this in a lame attempt to emulate this slag.

You really have to ask, OP? Because she spreads her legs and yodels, and somehow that translates to billions of $$$ despite a lack of any discernable talent.

When does she spread her legs?

Won't waste my time with people claiming an artist reaching top hits at Alternative charts, aren't alternative. Whatever effeminate gay men are crazy defending their fans, no wonder no one wants to fuck you.

Yes, the diva shit, R9. The pregnant posing with the flowers and the veil like she was some kind of holy madonna. Give me a fucking break.

Photos from her second baby shower. She’s such an asshole…

Very few people hated Whitney. I think that they were angry with her and disappointed because of her bad choices, but most people liked her.

This is a perfect example of why people don’t like her. “So-and-so wouldn’t be a thing if not for Beyoncé” is the kind of crap she pays PR people to post about her competition.

Beyonce is fucking lame. Comparing her to Whitney is an abomination Whitney clearly doesn't deserve.

R48, contrast these “icons” to the story on a PBS production about the discovery of Ella Fitzgerald. She was going to perform on amateur night at the Apollo Theater, and was going to dance. The girl before her danced and was well received by the audience, so Ella, intimidated, made a last minute decision to sing. The audience was raucous and Ella was somewhat gangly, and they gave her hell before she started. As the commentator said, “by the time she finished, you could hear a rat piss on cotton”…

I agree that Beyoncé is disliked mainly for the same reasons Taylor Swift is.
Firstly, both seem to trademark every mediocre line they've ever come up with, which smells of 1. greed and 2. overvaluation of their own creative output. IIRC, Bey even tried to trademark her daughter's name, and sued some frozen yoghurt shop or ice cream parlor called Blue Ivy, although it had been named that before the kid was even born.
Secondly, both Beyoncé and Taylor are CONSTANTLY shoved down out throat by the media, and made out to be these icons everyone should bow down to. The absolute worst thing is how other celebrities play along. I want to puke whenever I read one of those gushing 'I'm a fairly big celebrity myself, but I almost fainted when I met Beyoncé at this awards show, OMG best day of my life!!' stories. The way people suck up to them is vomit-inducing.
