You’re referring to Cricket from Young and the Restless.

The character was a virgin and had all of these hot guys trying to be her first, and she wasn’t that pretty. She was played by the producer’s daughter however.

By 1989 she had devoured the show , appearing daily and pushing other characters to the back burner.

Lily Walsh on ATWT and Melissa Horton on DAYS were similar characters on their respective soaps in the late 80s -plain virgins who drove the hunks on the show wild with their still shrinkwrapped pussies.

There had already been a famous character named "Cricket" Blake on the very popular TV mystery drama "Hawaiian Eye," played by Connie Stevens.

I loved to hate that whole storyline about Cricket's wimpy AIDS patient mother, who had been a prostitute for years but inexplicably only ever had one client, and her secret father, a doctor played by John "J. Peterman" O'Hurley, who also happened to be the father of Cricket's boyfriend (the one at lower right in R19's picture). When times got tough, Cricket and Mom would warble "You and Me Against the World" to each other. So treacly.

Cricket was in so many front-burner stories that I found I had to submit to her because Lord knew that William Bell was not going to put her on the backburner. So I just got used to her and didn't really mind her.

Thankfully, they made Cricket and Nina best friends and Tricia Cast, who is a fantastic actress, made Cricket more bearable.

And it was funny when Phyllis first came onto the show and started calling her "The Bug" and put the octopus in Paul and Cricket's hotel room bed.

In 1993, Danny left for Broadway to star in "Joseph ...", and after a lengthy absence, he ended up writing her a "Dear Cricket letter." This out-of-the-blue break-up was the beginning of the Phyllis Summers storyline where she would arrive in town claiming Danny was Daniel's father. That story began in 1994. .. But during Danny's absence, Christine and Paul's strong platonic relationship was played in no less than three stories.

First, before exiting, Danny had hired Paul to look after Christine, since he was worried about the evil Michael Baldwin. This led to Paul saving Christine from being raped by Michael. Then, the dynamic duo worked closely together during the April Stevens Lynch domestic abuse storyline. And finally, after Christine befriended local restaurant owner, Luan Voilen, she and Paul traveled to Vietnam together to try and locate Luan's missing son, Keemo. During these stories it was obvious that Paul was falling in love with Christine, so it wasn't a big surprise that she'd turn to him post-divorce.

Ha! I do remember when Lily Walsh on ATWT and Cricket on Y&R absolutely dominated the storylines as the plain girls who somehow made all men in town want them. All My Children did that with Lauren Holly when she played Julie Rand Chandler, a teenage runaway adopted by Ellen and her then husband Ross Chandler. I remember there was an article in Soap Opera Digest about this and the bitchy writer said All My Children should be called Life with Julie or something like that.

I never could stand the character of Julie. I remember when a young and hot Maurice Benard joined the show as Nico, and of course he fell for Julie. God, I hated that pair! Then he married Cecily so she could get access to her trust fund. The writers soon realized Nico and Cecily had WAY more chemistry and had them fall in love. Julie got more and more marginalized until Lauren Holly left the show. I was delighted for that character to leave.

Y&R needs to do better. On Friday's episode, when Sally and Adam went to the Grand Phoenix for their romantic getaway, they entered/used the same room (#523) that Diane is staying in. I know they use the same set for every "room" in the hotel, but the show could at least change the room number on the door. If the show has money issues, they should seriously consider cutting the fat. Nick has absolutely nothing to do. Why are they keeping the actor on contract?
