WHET to West 40s?
Christopher Lucas
I watched the pilot with friends and we howled with laughter (at it, not with it!). The threads on here surrounding the show were some of the best in a long time too.
I thought the lead with his massive chompers was raising money for more episodes. Did the dream just die? What happened to the money that was raised for future episodes that never materialized?
IIRC, he had some absurd amount of cash to shoot the pilot and still it turned out to be a disastrous looking piece of shit.

LOL! I loved those threads.

I felt the amount they raised should have produced a better show.

I think Bros stole their thunder. Same premise of 40-something queers in NYC.

A YouTube series is so 10 years ago...Miss Thing has a podcast now! It's called Laughter Through the Tears (also the name of my favorite brand of poppers), and his co-host is that queen from the Bridget Everett show.

What happened to HBO Max picking it up? Was it one of the many massacres of the Discovery merge?
| by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 19, 2022 3:37 AM |
This dates back to 2018 so the pandemic didn't help.

Didn’t Mark-Sam’s toupee run off with all the money? After Covid there isn’t a “West 40’s” anymore, it’s all homeless and vacant Duane Reades. It should become a true crime podcast with the black guy and his pizza pies…

Sorry to hear this - where is our gurls gonna go next?

I remember when they were begging for something like 10K to fund the craft services for the pilot! MARY!

Yeah, the pandemic killed this project. Oh, what might have been. Damn you, COVID.

Jeff Hiller was amazing in the HBO series Somebody Somewhere. So cringe as an awkward, middle-aged, church-choir gay, but ultimately sweet and endearing.

R12, yes! I remember they insisted on having craft services there. Absolutely hysterical.
| by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 19, 2022 1:05 PM |
Mark-Sam is currently working at craft services.

As I was entering the theater to see “Leopoldstadt”, I saw Mark Sam Rosenthal in the line ahead of me. Thanks to Datalounge and the West 40’s threads, I was breathless and Star struck like other people would for a Kardashian or Justin Bieber!!

How did you like Leopoldstadt, r18?
| by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 19, 2022 9:04 PM |
A lot to digest in “Leopoldstadt”. It needs to be a “Masterpiece Theater” series. Every 30 minutes or so they jump forward 25 years and everyone is playing a new character or the same character at a very different stage of life. A lot of blanks to be filled in and catching up to do. Plus Stoppard introduces a lot of history of how the Nazis came to be from the 1890’s on.
Otherwise the production is beautiful and the acting excellent. If you miss details in the picture the whole canvas still registers. Weirdly, though there are only five or so British actors in it imported from the West End production, everyone does an English accent including Brandon Uranowitz. And they’re not playing Brits but Austrians.
One of the Brit imports is hottie Arty Froushan who goes shirtless and barefoot in a bedroom scene. Easy on the eyes and can act.

No, I was joking R13. This was clearly dead before the pandemic.

R21 this show WAS a pandemic!

Arty's American - where did you get that from?

I recall people asking why thousands were spent on Starbucks. How many $9 lattes were they drinking?

Mark Sam had to have his scones heated before every lead balloon he screeched out in that disastrous “pilot” that shat the YouTube bed! Yikes!

R23 According to IMDB Arty was born in Connecticut in either 1993 or 1995. However he is described as a British-Iranian actor and all his earlier acting credits are English. He lives in London where he has UK agents. Full first name is Artemas- cool!!! His mother is French. The internet is a wonderful thing!

Didn’t Mark-Sam marry his teenage Colombian DoorDash delivery boy?
