As others have stated he retired from acting, got an education and is now a psychologist. I believe he has left LA altogether. I am happy he seems to be in a good place. His career was basically ruined when he was outed in the late 90s and no one would hire him after Dr. Quinn ended...added to that he developed a drug and alcohol problem.

He was never a real star. He was always “just there” on various shows (My Two Dads, Dr. Quinn, St. Elsewhere, etc). Other than that the only lead roles he got were in ultra low budget gay films that nobody saw. That wasn’t exactly going to pay the bills in the long run.

I say good for him for going back to school and getting a legit career.

The Globe (not the Enquirer) purchased photos (sold to them by a friend of Chad's) of him making out with another guy in a hot tub at a party.

I vividly remember this because my granny was a huge fan of Dr. Quinn (and I had a huge gayling crush on Joe Lando) so I watched it regularly. I remember clearly there was talk about Allen possibility being fired from the show for violating a "morals clause" in his contract. CBS at the time was running all these family friendly shows like Touched by an Angel. CBS had originally tried to convince Allen to just say "no comment" but he decided to come out regardless of what it did to his career. Allen has said that Jane Seymour threatened to walk from the show if the removed Allen from the cast. But his relationship with CBS was damaged after this and it's the reason he decline to be in the two Dr. Quinn films.

R14 He wasn't a massive star but he was a teenage hearthrob in the 80s and 90s in a lot of various teen magazines of the era.
