I was riveted to the sat night finale between Katarina & Debi, & was rooting for K to get her 2nd gold. Tombs, who’d won gold earlier in the day/last couple days, said if she lost, he’d give her one of his! Ps I live in San Jose & ran into Debi’s mom At CVS (when it was Long’s) & Baker’s Square, but never had the nerve to talk to her, I didn’t want to lie & say i was a big fan of Debi’s. One of my coworkers used to train with her. Sad how it all turned out for her.

It might’ve been Peggy, I think she was pro Katarina. After the short, Peggy was interviewing Katarina & singing her praises, & at the end told her “you’re a beautiful girl” to which kat replied, “yep.” (Though I think she was just kinda ending the interview, plus her English wasn’t the best, the year before she called Cincinnati “Chin-chin-addy”
