When Did You Start Getting Gray Hair?

Writer Harper Scott

I'm in my mid-30s and I started finding a few strands last year. Interestingly, I started spotting grays in my body hair first a few years ago. I always thought it went the other way around. My mother's side all went gray in their early 20s, so I don't think I'm taking after them - and they went REALLY gray.

So for those who've spouted em, how old were you when you found your first strands?

Im 39, m, and no grey yet. Not one hair. Thank the gay gods for that.

In college. My brother and his girlfriend picked me up at the airport one vacation, and the girlfriend yanked my first gray hair as she walked past me while we were eating.

My side burns started in my early 30s and then the sides of my hair started after that. It hasn't really progressed much beyond that. My brother is 7 years older and has less than I do.

Mid-30s I started getting strands of it. I’ve been periodically using the Just For Men Control GX grey-reducing shampoo and it’s worked brilliantly. I have really dark hair to begin with so it works better, but it’s very subtle and natural and I only have to use it once or twice every few weeks and it’s kept the grey at bay. Too much and it would look fake but between my natural color and the level of grey it’s been a perfect solution (I’m early 40s now).

Late twenties! But I still have a full head of hair into my mid-thirties, as does my father into his mid-sixties.

OP Oh honey, it is the grey pubic hair that will freak you the fuck out

Late 40s, but sadly most of it was gone by then.

Early 40s but dye (Just For Men - Sandy Blond). Looks very natural!

I had grey hairs at 20. By 30 my hair was snow white.

First grey hair at 12. Went true salt & pepper early twenties. Now completely white at 49.

Late teens, the rare single strand. Early twenties, the occasional single strand. Late twenties (current), I guess a few when I look but it is almost never noticeable.

My partner however had more apparent beginning of graying in his late twenties, and now in his early thirties its slowly begun, in the lightly salt-and-pepper on sides and face way.

I expect by the end of my thirties I'll have graying while he'll be gray or a mix that leans less on the pepper and more on the salt. But this is assuming no swift changes. Hopefully it goes as expected for me, as my appearance is aging slower than most other men (I can appear early twenties when I have a fresh look on). Not afraid of it though, as I think I could look good with it.

32 and it's starting. I'll be salt and pepper like my dad by the time I'm ~37. By then I'll prob just dye my hair gray/platinum.

I've had salt and pepper hair since I was 17. I thought it was just another hair colour, like blonde or black or brown. It's stayed that way since. I'm 51.

43, however I started losing my hair at 17!

Does the just for men shampoo / dye work for blond/sandy blond? I have grey hair coming in at temples but with blond, it's hard to tell. Basically, my hair color is just turning to dishwater. And I hate it.

I started getting gray hair at age 25.

There’s a version of the grey shampoo for lighter hair.
