What do you get at Firehouse Subs?

Writer James Williams

Met a friend for lunch today and she insisted on going to Firehouse Subs. Assumed it would be just as gross as Subway, but was pleasantly surprised at the quality. Really nicely toasted bread that holds the ingredients together well. The Italian sub -- I think it had three different meats -- piled high with assorted vegetables and melted provolone and a nicely tangy vinaigrette was much better than other sandwich chains I've been to. It's definitely pricier than Subway, though, so you are paying for better ingredients.

Oh, and, there WERE a small group of really handsome firefighters there when we went. Do store owners get them with their franchise agreements? 🔥🔥🔥

They toast their bread?

Fuck that, it's a way to disguise bread that's past it's prime.

I think firefighters eat free, or at a reduced rate maybe. I've several sandwiches there and all were good. Until I got the meatball sub that, while also did, gave me explosive diarrhea. At least that's what I blame it on.

So I no linger have a good opinion of Firehouse Subs. But I may go back one day. You never really know why you get the shits like that. Could have been almost anything that day.

I'd prefer a firehouse stub.

Oh, I'd dearly love to get down with a firehouse sub.

R1 - it was just lightly toasted, but I imagine it makes the sandwich hold up better given that most of their subs look to be served hot. We ate pretty slowly and even at the end of our meal, the subs were still fresh, not soggy.

Do they offer the firehouse footlong with special sauce (the secrets in the smegma!)?

Who DIDN'T know that this thread would turn out this way? Show of glands...

We just recently got our first Firehouse Subs here and I stopped by for the tuna sub.

Unimpressed. A myriad of hot sauces available is their "trademark."

I tried Firehouse when it first opened near me and wasn't impressed. I had a turkey club or something and I only remember it being very unmemorable. Never went back. They seem to be imitating Quiznos with the toasted subs but I will say they put more meat on the sandwich than Quiznos.

I actually really like Jimmie John's but don't like to eat there because the owner is a rightwing nutjob.

^^ Jimmie Johns uses the cheapest, worst bread for their sandwiches. It might even be worse than Subway's.

There aren't any in my area. I guess they're part of the trend to go upscale from Subway (along with Jimmy John's, Which Wich, and Jersey Mike's, all of which ARE in my area.) Sort of mirrors the trend with the burger places that have "upscaled" the more traditional fast-fooderies like McDonald's, Carl's/Hardee's, Burger King and Wendy's. (Examples: The Habit, Five Guys, Burgerim, Moo-Yah, Smashburger.)

Can they really say it's a "free" sub when you're purchasing a pack of water in order to receive the sub? Anyway, it's still a good value considering you can find 24 packs of water for ~$2-3 in some stores.
