What car do you drive?

Writer William Jenkins

Keen to hear what type of cars you bitches drive.

I drive a 2018 Opel Insignia- for you yanks that’s a Buick Regal. Absolutely love it.

by Anonymousreply 114April 21, 2024 5:59 PM

I was driving my container snack ship out of Baltimore port the other day...

Just don't say the words Scott Key!

Ford Everest. (Red, not white like the pic)

^ Are those nice? I know a lot of Americans wish we could get them, but as usual we can't ☹️

by Anonymousreply 7April 20, 2024 9:31 AM

It’s a great car. A little too big for Australian streets and car parks though. Makes parking a bitch at times.

by Anonymousreply 8April 20, 2024 9:52 AM

Malibu

Inconspicuous, just another care in the crowd, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

by Anonymousreply 11April 20, 2024 10:28 AM

2001 Holden Commodore like the one in the pic, mine's a V8 though

Also have a 1980 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham

2024 VW Jetta. I drive about 10 miles a week so no need for extravagance.

by Anonymousreply 16April 20, 2024 12:06 PM

^ So, that's probably the last car you'll ever need 👍

by Anonymousreply 18April 20, 2024 12:10 PM

2022 Audi Q5. It is a decent looking vehicle on outside but the interior is serving 1998.

I want to get a Porsche Macan T next.

I had a 2019 Cayenne and that thing ruled.

by Anonymousreply 22April 20, 2024 1:21 PM

R7 - I wish we had the Everest instead of the Explorer. It would be a great alternative to the 4Runner and Grand Cherokee.

by Anonymousreply 24April 20, 2024 1:27 PM

2014 Chevy Sonic. Repairs are getting more expensive and parts are taking longer to get. Thinking about something new, but not many hatchbacks available anymore, and I don't want an SUV.

by Anonymousreply 25April 20, 2024 1:54 PM

1996 Ford F-150 (pick up truck for those who don't know), 9th Generation. I have babied it since the original purchase date . Every time I take it to Ford for service, the young mechanics are happy to inspect it as they don't often see models of this vintage. The dealership has offered to buy it back from me for the original purchase price I paid (USD $14K). I'm keeping it.

by Anonymousreply 26April 20, 2024 2:01 PM

R26 you have got a keeper there, I like that generation of F150, nice looking truck and not as absurdly large as the current ones. I'm the same when it comes to keeping things long term, I've had my Cadillac since 1995 and my Commodore since 2015

2017 Prius V - Bright Red

2010 Honda Civic. Low mileage since I don't drive much, but I would love to have the features from the newer models.

For example, backup camera, dash cam, GPS, parking assist and blind spot warning.

Is there any way to add these features to my car? Sadly, it does not have the screen on the dash.

by Anonymousreply 39April 20, 2024 5:02 PM

Porsche Macan T....White with tan interior

by Anonymousreply 40April 20, 2024 5:02 PM

2010 Lexus RX350 with 114K miles.

by Anonymousreply 41April 20, 2024 5:02 PM

2022 Honda Civic Hatchback. I mostly love it, except the CarPlay/Bluetooth is often glitchy. And it has an annoying feature to kill the engine when you brake for a while. Otherwise, a great little car.

by Anonymousreply 43April 20, 2024 5:04 PM

A beat-up bicycle when I have to cross the city in a hurry, otherwise I walk.

Glad to no longer own or have any need for a car.

by Anonymousreply 44April 20, 2024 5:04 PM

R37- The redesigned Toyota Camry looks and sounds good so far. It get excellent fuel economy and should be very reliable and it handles better than the 2018 to 2024 Camry. I'm considering one myself.

2004 PT Cruiser.....145,000 miles. Lots of room in the hatchback. Cream color.

2014 Smart Car 46,000 miles. White with black trim.

@r56, "Break My Wallet."

And that's the reason I'll never have another BMW ☹️

by Anonymousreply 58April 20, 2024 6:58 PM

R58- One of the car testers at Consumer Reports referred to BMWs as Break My Wallet.

They said BMWs are fun to drive but are very expensive to maintain and repair.

by Anonymousreply 60April 20, 2024 7:12 PM

2018 Honda HR-V, a big upgrade from the 1989 Honda CRX I drove for 30 years. I love it. I saw a new HR-V the other day and was disappointed in how bland the design is now (not that the '18 would win any awards for looks).

by Anonymousreply 61April 20, 2024 7:14 PM

2010 Mercedes C300 - perfect shape, under 80k miles. I looked at the 2024 model and it was $58k…ouch

by Anonymousreply 62April 20, 2024 7:21 PM

The old Honda looks like a Gremlin, R48.

by Anonymousreply 63April 20, 2024 7:22 PM

R48? I had one of those!

I ended up having to buy a cheap car at an auto auction in 1989 (long story) and paid $500 for it. It was a 4-speed automatic, but only two of the gears worked (2nd and 4th), and it wouldn't go above 45mph. I had just started college (at 30) and I drove it like that for two years. Even on the back roads, I always had a long line of cars behind me (cursing me, no doubt) by the time I got to school.

The day I finished my degree, I drove it straight to the junkyard, and they gave me $50 for it.

Now, I drive a 2016 Nissan Frontier. I bought it with 78K on it, and I hope I'll never need to buy another vehicle.

by Anonymousreply 64April 20, 2024 7:44 PM

So many other DL Macan owners! We just got our first this winter. I thought BMWs were heavy, but it’s like riding in a tank now. As a petite person I love, love, love the 14 way adjustable seats.

by Anonymousreply 65April 20, 2024 7:50 PM

R65 Our current Macan is our third but the first my hubby ordered directly from Porsche. He wanted a lipstick red leather interior. Makes him happy, so it makes me happy.

Happy wife, happy life as us gals say R66. I would have been perfectly content with a Buick.

Did you do the whole on-line tracking of the build and shipping?

by Anonymousreply 68April 20, 2024 7:57 PM

2024 Subaru Cross Trek.

I always baby my cars and take excellent care of them...

My first car was a 1989 Subaru XT - never had a problem with it. Paid $11K for it. It was 'Ruby Red'. Sold it to my cousin in 1999 when she graduated High School for $2K - she totaled it within a month.

My second car was a 1999 VW 'Bright Blue' Beetle - nothing but problems the day after the warranty expired. Couldn't wait to get rid of it. Bought it for $16K and traded it in 8 years later (the Scion dealer told me they had more than enough VW Beetles they couldn't get rid of - no one wanted them as they were nothing but problems). I think I got $4,000 for it on the trade-in.

My third car was a 2007 Scion XT - it was perfect for getting where I needed to go back then. I had very few problems with it. Paid about $15K, minus the VW trade-in.

In 2017, I sold my Scion for $7k to a coworker (he totaled it within a year) and went back to Subaru - leased a blue Crosstrek.

In 2020, turned that car in and got a 2021 gray Crosstrek under lease (there wasn't much inventory to choose from - color choices were white, gray or black).

Just three weeks ago, I turned that car in and got my 2024 'Sapphire Blue' Crosstrek. Love it.

Looking back on the past 35 years, I should have stuck with Subarus (though the models were ugly in the 90s and 2000s). Never had a problem with any of them.

by Anonymousreply 69April 20, 2024 7:57 PM

Elderlez, the Cayenne is even more of a tank!

When I traded that in for the Audi Q5- it was like I was driving a feather.

Macan is a very cool car and I knew I would get one when they finally gave it the Cayenne styling on the bumper and the interior.

I am probably going to get a 2024 in Sept, unless its worth it to wait for 2025.

The new EV comes out at the end of the year too-

by Anonymousreply 70April 20, 2024 8:02 PM

2014 Jeep Wrangler Sahara hard top. Just over 50,000 miles. I love it.

by Anonymousreply 71April 20, 2024 8:06 PM

I want a Macan so bad, but I live 40 miles from the nearest Porsche dealer and that scares me 😳

by Anonymousreply 72April 20, 2024 8:15 PM

^ Typical Gay man who lives with his mother

by Anonymousreply 74April 20, 2024 8:17 PM

R70- I drive a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Premium. I have had two problems with it. The master switch for the power windows broke and the entire module was replaced under warranty. The second problem was the engine would stall repeatedly this was not fixed under warranty and cost me $800 +. Not such great reliability overall. I do like the ride and the handling though.

by Anonymousreply 75April 20, 2024 8:26 PM

What kind of work do you whores do (besides whoring) that allows you to afford a Macan?

by Anonymousreply 77April 20, 2024 8:27 PM

Prius...and I would buy another one.

by Anonymousreply 78April 20, 2024 8:29 PM

R68 yes, we sure did track it. It was fun. We held our collective breath when it was on the boat because the previous shipper actually sank with a load of new Porsches.

by Anonymousreply 80April 20, 2024 8:46 PM

2021 Toyota Venza. It’s like a Lexus RX at a 20% discount.

by Anonymousreply 81April 20, 2024 8:50 PM

Oh no R80! I didn’t even think of that as a possibility. Ours took almost a month to get off the boat in Rhode Island and that last part was stressful.

by Anonymousreply 82April 20, 2024 8:51 PM

2014 Cadillac ELR (plug-in hybrid) and 2019 Audi A3 cabriolet. Had 2 EVs but moved from my house to a condo and charging at public stations was such a hassle (and expensive) that I got rid of both of them. Love the Cadi, Audi is ok. Next cars will not be from "luxury" brands, everything is an option, expensive and crazy expensive to maintain. Too bad not many convertibles available anymore except tiny or outrageously expensive.

by Anonymousreply 83April 20, 2024 9:10 PM

2023 Toyota Crown. Fanciest car I've ever owned. It's a hybrid. Would have preferred a plug-in, but it's great for what I need.

by Anonymousreply 84April 20, 2024 10:26 PM

2004 Prius. An old friend soon to be traded in or junked. The catalytic converter is worth more than the entire car at this point. Paid cash for it in 2005, been a faithful servant ever since. Many trips to Boston for medical crises. Doesn't owe us any money. I'll miss it, honestly.

by Anonymousreply 85April 20, 2024 10:46 PM

^ You could get another one 😢

by Anonymousreply 86April 20, 2024 10:49 PM

'23 Audi A5. Looks nice and I really like the lift back, but in the end of still a car.

The Crown is very stylish, R84, particularly for Toyota which can be hit and miss.

by Anonymousreply 87April 20, 2024 10:57 PM

2024 BMW I4 M50 . Love it.

by Anonymousreply 88April 20, 2024 11:09 PM

2017 BMW 300i, which I really enjoy 1988 Mercedes 300sel, which lives with my mechanic, someday it will come home.

by Anonymousreply 89April 20, 2024 11:25 PM

2022 Tesla Model Y Performance. Zero to 60 in 3.5 seconds.

by Anonymousreply 90April 21, 2024 12:01 AM

Just got a 2020 Nissan Rogue SV after driving a shitty 2005 Honda Accord Hybrid since 2018 with a failed hybrid battery module and no radio (navigation/audio was replaced before i got it by original owner and when I changed the regular battery, had no way to know what the four digit code was to get radio/cd player back to working).

I've had the new car for a week and what a difference! It reminds me of the 90s when I briefly had a Buick Skylark (with all the trimmings). I drove down to Emeryville today to go to a store I haven't been to for about a year (about a 65 mile drive one way), and it wa stop and go traffic on the way home over the Richmond Bridge for about 10 miles. Switched on the adaptive cruise control, and the car did all the work of braking, slowing down, speeding up, stopping (if needed). It was so amazing. Also, no fumbling for key fob to lock/unlock doors, remote start, heated seats, heated steering wheel, Bluetooth connectivity plus Android Autoplay and power liftgate that i can just flip my foot under the bumper twice to open hands free.

Love this car! it looks good, drives very smoothly and the seats are so comfortable too.

by Anonymousreply 91April 21, 2024 1:12 AM

2014 Land Rover LR4. Absolutely love these trucks. Luxury, strong, can go anywhere at anytime! MPG's are terrible, but its the price I pay.

by Anonymousreply 92April 21, 2024 1:24 AM

R92- LOVE. IT.

I am a car guy and the best vehicle ever (NOT RELIABLE) was my 2007 HSE. I was 27-32 when I owned it.

It made you feel like a captain of a ship.

It so out of my price range now, but a 2024 Sport is so so tempting.

But the closest dealers are 45 minutes away so I am sticking with Porsche.

by Anonymousreply 93April 21, 2024 3:22 AM

R22 you have the same taste in cars I have. Drive an Audi Q3, and want a Porsche small suv. I also like the cayenne, but the next car will probably be electric. Sigh, no Porsche for me.

by Anonymousreply 97April 21, 2024 8:06 AM

2009 Prius, but I have a 2008 Prius to sell. I demanded my father stop driving.

by Anonymousreply 98April 21, 2024 8:28 AM

2020 RAV 4 that I’m going to drive til the wheels come off. Or until I can afford a Lexus hybrid.

by Anonymousreply 99April 21, 2024 12:46 PM

R78, I had a second generation Prius (2005) and drove it over 100,000 miles. The redesign on them from a few years ago is good.

2011 Camry LE. Paid cash for it in 2020. 124,000 miles. It is in better shape than my 2001 Grand Prix with 106,000 miles that I traded in for it.

2016 BMW X3 (for carting the kids around) and a 2016 Ford Ranger Truck (for toting stuff around...)

by Anonymousreply 104April 21, 2024 4:12 PM

2005 Lexus RX 330. It has not just a 6 CD changer but also a cassette deck! I connect my iPhone to the cassette deck via a Monster cassette to play music

It’s also a very outdated gold color. But it has a (pretty bad) backup camera, hands-free phone speaker (had no idea what that was in 2005), good traction control, power liftgate, automatic driver seat memory for 2 people and KNOBS.

by Anonymousreply 105April 21, 2024 4:54 PM

Also, bought my car for cash so no monthly payments for the last 20 years; has about 175k on it. Lexus used to be reasonably priced luxury car. Not anymore

They also replaced 6 cyl engine with 4 cyl turbo which i don’t want.

by Anonymousreply 107April 21, 2024 5:03 PM

R106 I also bike a lot as well. When my old Fleetwood was my only car I got keen on commuter cycling. 500 cubic inches and 5 mpg will do that

R107 A lot to be said for paying cash! I've always done that, never had a car payment.

by Anonymousreply 109April 21, 2024 5:14 PM

2013 Volvo XC70–this was the last year before they discontinued the model I believe. It’s been a great car with few problems, and I’ve taken good care of it (as did the original owner). It still looks nice and runs well. I have no plans of getting a new car until I absolutely have to.

by Anonymousreply 111April 21, 2024 5:23 PM

Mercedes SUV and an Audi Q5. I've been looking for a fun vintage Toyota Landcruiser for a while but haven't pulled the trigger.
