His legit career dried up in the early 90s, and he allegedly developed a drug problem and got into porn for the fast, easy money which he needed. While he wasn't a big name, I'm surprised the porn companies didn't try to capitalize on his past fame.

Yeah, I thought he'd be bigger, or at least remain on the margins, where character actors tend to end up anyway. Hopefully someone will give a break on a role he might be noticed again. His wiki page since turning down the Fright Night sequel was his big career misstep. Some people love that movie, I didn't, but Steve should've continued to ride that high profile role for all it was worth.
