WEHT R&B Singer Tevin Campbell?
James Williams
Tevin Campbell was everywhere it seemed back in the day, but seems to have dropped off.
They do say he was "family", but the man has vigorously denied that rumor.

OP is worst than Tevin's gay denial.

He was arrested for soliciting a man in a restroom, a la George Michael, or something like that.
Can We Talk came out the same week that my niece was born. I sang it to her as I held her in my arms for the first time.

It's never too early for a gay to find a gal pal.

Thanks R2
Honestly had no idea Tevin Campbell was discussed previously and often before on DL.
His hit "Can We Talk" was everywhere back then, and phrase went onto become one of the standard lines from smooth talking brothers. Now it's "lemme talk to you for a minute...."

Could they have picked a more butch girl for his love interest in that video?

View from Sheep Meadow in Central Park has changed so much since that video in OP was shot.
Central Park South is part of "Billionaires Row" with tall and skinny towers now dotting the view. Then there are same along 57th street that have direct views of the park as well.

Should have known he was gay; using Joan Rivers catch phrase as a song title...ummhmm.

I still listen to his I’m Ready album sometimes on Spotify. He could definitely blow.

Amazing song. I think he was abusing drugs and was busted for solicitation. He had issues with getting back what he had going before that. I still listen to this song regularly.

My God! He's 44 years old! Add this to my "I Feel Fucking Old" file.

I miss goo black male singers. They’re disappearing. And please don’t tell me that Jason DeRulo can sing.

He recently hinted on social media that new music is on the way.

Forty isn't fatal.... Large percentage of old trouts on DL would likely love to be in their forties again.

Good male vocalists are the four door sedans of the music world.

Cautious Clay is good. He's not a sanger, though.

God I LOVE the song at R9 and forgotten all about it. But in the video, Miss. T is SO gay. He can't even hide it, especially when he does some of those little diva spins.
I hope he's doing great. He is/was an amazing talent.

Also, listening to the song at R9, his mimicking Whitney Houston's style of the time is painfully obvious. He's good at it, but if you listen to her music during that same period, Tevin's doing an exact copy of it, with the tonal scooping up and down, the quivering enunciation of some of the lyrics, the way he goes into the crecendo. It's all Whitney.

I miss this type of R&B so much. We need to make real singers famous again.

The I'm Ready album was huge, but he had two or three more that were really good, if not as big on the charts.
Remember before any of his albums, he hit big with Round and Round from Prince's Graffiti Bridge soundtrack.
I thought he's become sort of "out" - at least not in abject denial like he used to be. I'm not sure. Relatedly, I remember an interview with 50 or 60-something Freddie Jackson a few years back where he literally says everything except "I'm gay." That last hurdle remains so weirdly elusive for some people. Like Jodi Foster until a few years ago.

I used to have the I’m Ready album on cassette!

My hands-down favorite Tevin Campbell song:

I just assumed he hit puberty and his voice changed

I don't care what goes down in this dude's personal life or how well or badly he's aged, I will always love him and his music. That sweet, soulful voice was one of the premier voices of the nineties and his songs make me happy to this very day. It's a shame talent like this is so rare in mainstream music nowadays.

I loved Round & Round, I bought the cassingle & knew he’d be the biggest thing ever...oh well.
