Waiting for a Star to Fall

Writer Christopher Lucas

Who here remembers this underrated 1980s hit by Boy Meets Girl?

Whitney Houston and Belinda Carlisle both passed on it (although Belinda recorded a rough demo) so the songwriters, George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam recorded it themselves and released it under the name Boy Meets Girl.

Unfortunately, they both divorced in 2000 but they really sold their love on the song.

George was hot blond when younger.

Curse you op for reminding me about this song, it’s now stuck in my head.

It lived. It took up space. It was present.

I remember it from Three Men and a Little Lady.

I had to look it up to make sure that's where I heard it and it's played at the end of the movie. I don't know why I remember that - I was at a soccer tournament in North Carolina where there was nothing to do at night so my friend's mother took us to the movies.

Belinda was right to pass on it. It doesn’t suit her at all.

They alsoo wrote "How Will I Know" and "I Wanna Dance" for Whitney.

Without this song (and a bit of Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes"), we wouldn't have this gem from (WHET?) Mylo

I miss saxophone solos of the late 1980s. What happened to them?

R8 that’s a terrible song.

Never heard of this Mylo till now. Interesting mash-up.

Belinda Carlisle sounds dreadful on that demo.

Do I? LOVED this song growing up and still do. Ultimate feel good track.

They wrote HWIK for Janet, and when her people passed on it, it was given to Whitney.

George re-recorded his vocals for the Cabin Crew remix Star2Fall

Great song from the 1980s.

I enjoy this bit of 80's aural Velveeta.

Loved it. Such a happy song.

Ar first, I thought this was about Haircut 100's Boy Meets Girl.

The album this song comes from, Reel Life, is an excellent late-'80s pop album.

That’s such a fun video. It’s nostalgic by now, of course, because of time passing, but it (with the caveat this is obviously a staged and filmed production) does nevertheless remind you of people just living and being in the moment, not curating everything for Instagram.

[quote]Belinda Carlisle sounds dreadful on that demo.

I can't work out whether she'd had too much coke when she sang it, or didn't have enough coke.

Great tune. My husband and I talked about this song on our first date in 2006. We were bonding over obscure ‘80s hits.
