God OP that sounds like the invite list for a class reunion from my old school. I have noticed that 'C' names always feel more classic and elegant than their 'K' variations, as does 'ai' as opposed to 'ay' (Caitlin as opposed to Katelyn, Cara as opposed to Kara, Catherine as opposed to Katherine), and that soft 'G' names always feel the same when compared to their 'J' variations (Germaine as opposed to Jermaine, Geoffrey as opposed to Jeffrey, Gerry opposed to Jerry, Gemma as opposed to Jemma).
There's something about the letters K, J, and Y that just feel trendier than C, -AI-, and G, and today's trendy name is tomorrow's trashy name.

There was a large-scale study done some time ago (I've got to dig it up) that found parents in the late 80's/early 90's who named their daughter 'Caitlin' (the classic spelling) were on average more educated, more liberal, and earned a higher median salary than their 'Katelyn' (or one of the dozens of alternative spellings) counterparts.

Why are Margarets nicknamed Peggy? Over the years, Maggie morphed into Meggie and Meg, likely because of accents changing the vowel sound. That continued to transform into the Peggy and Peg we know today, based simply on a trend of creating nicknames that rhyme. It's the same reason we have Bill from William.
