Why in the world did Toni Morrison take Fran Lebowitz to Stockholm for the Nobel Prize ceremony? Fran was her plus one! I just watched that new documentary on Morrison and Fran is all in the middle of it, bragging about their great friendship. Very bizarre. Why would Toni take so warmly to such an obvious social climber? What in the world did they have in common? Any comments and/or gossip is appreciated.

Morrison came from a very modest background. If Lebowitz is a social climber, Morrison easily could have been as much or more of one.

OP, in the other thread on Fran, in the New Yorker article she said that she and Toni used to talk on the phone every day, sometimes for hours. Nobody does that with just a good friend.

because black men don’t want the black women because they can’t support them. That’s the problem, marriage became a white middle class institution that many blacks don’t have access to, and the main reason why is because institutionalized racism keeps black men out of work and locked in prisons.
