This gay guy and his beagle

Writer Daniel Martin

I find this odd, don't you?

I mean who has a dog that doesn't like a huggle?

and the dog always looks so serious. Never smiles.

Is this normal beagle behavior?

and how many dogs don't want to go for a fucking walk?

It's BIZARRE.

Looks completely normal. He's just tired, that's all. Same as in the second video you posted.

by Anonymousreply 2March 6, 2019 9:12 PM

He says "sometimes Oliver doesn't mind being hugged a little bit" - what the fuck?

by Anonymousreply 3March 6, 2019 9:14 PM

"take your dog out for a walk to meet mens" on the social media level

by Anonymousreply 4March 6, 2019 9:14 PM
Looks completely normal. He's just tired, that's all. Same as in the second video you posted.

He's practically a fucking puppy. He's not 15 years old.

My dog would wake from a coma for a walk and would RESPOND to any kind of affection. Oliver's like "get the fuck away from me!"

by Anonymousreply 6March 6, 2019 9:16 PM

I think the op wanted to make fun of the “gay guy” but it’s not going as planned.

by Anonymousreply 7March 6, 2019 9:17 PM

Dogs generally do not like to be hugged.

I'm not making fun of him. That's YOUR mind at work.

by Anonymousreply 10March 6, 2019 9:19 PM

I just started watching Oliver videos this week and I’m enjoying them. I thought his owner was gay, but I didn’t see it mentioned directly in any of the videos.

by Anonymousreply 11March 6, 2019 9:20 PM

I have three cats who won’t let me hug them or pick them up. They won’t sit in my lap, either. They hide when anyone else comes in the house. They let me pet them for a tiny bit, purr, then all of a sudden revert to demon form and try to rip my hand off. They are a mother & two of her grown kittens. They bash the shit out of each other routinely.

I go into other people’s houses and their cats come up to me, purr and rub against my leg. I pet them, they want to sit on my lap, they make biscuits and can’t get enough petting.

I just got a bad batch.

by Anonymousreply 13March 6, 2019 9:21 PM

R8 Let's not generalize or stereotype dogs. Dogs, like humans, are individuals. My friend had two dogs, the smaller one loved hugs and would initiate them he also really enjoyed walks, However, the older female dog hated being hugged and never wanted to go for walks.

by Anonymousreply 15March 6, 2019 9:23 PM

Cats are a whole nother story

by Anonymousreply 16March 6, 2019 9:23 PM

I've read that "dogs don't like hugs and kisses " crap. I just had my 30 lb jack russell and 100 lb walker hound/german shepard mix come running to me for hugs and kisses. Buster, handsome hound, likes kisses.

by Anonymousreply 17March 6, 2019 9:23 PM

How would you like a pet like this? I like when he goes under the table and starts using his head & wings to emphasize “I don’t want, I DONT want.”

and he loves Oliver SO MUCH. It's his baby.

by Anonymousreply 19March 6, 2019 9:26 PM

BUT he videos and posts Oliver's every fucking move.

Maybe the dog gets TOO MUCH attention.

by Anonymousreply 20March 6, 2019 9:28 PM

Fuck your criticism, r24...

by Anonymousreply 25March 6, 2019 9:39 PM

The dog does not consent to the hugs. He feels uncomfortable and indeed, violated.

by Anonymousreply 26March 6, 2019 9:42 PM

Oliver is depressed. He's a work dog without a purpose and his beta owner bores him to tears.

by Anonymousreply 27March 6, 2019 9:45 PM
R8 Dogs generally do not like to be hugged.
R9 Never heard such nonsense.

My dog was like this. He adored being near me and would sometimes howl when I left (a problem), but he’d only tolerate snuggling for short periods.

He liked to curl up at the end of the bed, and I could fool him by maneuvering it so he was curled up behind my knees ... but anything where he was enclosed in someone’s arms too long, he was like, “UGGH! I can’t BREATHE!” and he’d slither from your (desperate) grasp.

by Anonymousreply 28March 6, 2019 9:50 PM
Oliver is depressed. He's a work dog without a purpose and his beta owner bores him to tears.

And the house is antiseptically clean. It's like a hospital.

Get the fuck off me, you're smothering me with your gay famewhoring stunt.

by Anonymousreply 30March 6, 2019 10:22 PM

We adopted a beagle who was friends with our Irish terrier through the local leash free dog park. His owners became good friends - and when they had to move - we were happy to make him part of our family.

He’s so different from our Irish! We’ve had her since she was a young pup. She has been cuddled and picked up and cosseted since the day we got her - and laps it up!

Beagle had a couple of months in a chaotic household with small children before our friends got him. The noisy household freaked him out I think. He’s so neurotic at times - and mostly looks like he’s having an existential crisis. Various friends keep telling us they’re sure he’s somewhere on the autism spectrum. He’s just an odd little fellow!

But over time - he’s gradually becoming more and more affectionate and getting used to it all. He clearly is very happy to see us (when he can be bothered leaving the couch!) - and although he doesn’t like cuddling the way our Irish does - on a cold night he loves to jump up on the sofa or the bad and insert himself between human warm legs and falls asleep blissfully entangled.

None of the other beagles at the dog park - and there are several! - are like this one at all. They’re all different - always luck of the draw!
Various friends keep telling us they’re sure he’s somewhere on the autism spectrum.

LOL

by Anonymousreply 32March 7, 2019 9:05 AM

A friend has a crazy female beagle she used to bring to work. The office loved her. She would tip over garbage cans and steal people's lunches. She had every one giving her treats. She was not affectionate. She would never bark or jump on people, she just liked being adored.

by Anonymousreply 33March 7, 2019 10:28 AM

Lovely dog. But yes he does seem to be bit serious about life.

by Anonymousreply 34March 7, 2019 11:36 AM

I volunteer at a dog rescue. Not all dogs like hugs...particularly ones who have been scared, abused, or on the streets for a good while. Some dogs feel restricted and scared when you hug them. But most dogs like hugs. And nearly all dogs like to be petted or have their bellies scratched.

by Anonymousreply 35March 7, 2019 1:10 PM

Some dogs aren't bothered about hugs, they just want to be stroked.

by Anonymousreply 36March 7, 2019 2:14 PM

Maybe he was abused before being adopted.

by Anonymousreply 37March 7, 2019 2:17 PM

He's like one of those traumatized lab beagles. who's never been outside in the sun or felt grass on their feet.

My mate and I say “huggle.” Hug + cuddle + snuggle = huggle.

by Anonymousreply 48March 8, 2019 3:00 AM

MY GOD you've hooked me on Oliver. I've watched 20 videos tonight. He is adorable and of course spoiled rotten. But that's how it should be. His little rain coat with pockets when he went out to play in the snow was so cute. Sigh.

by Anonymousreply 49March 8, 2019 6:58 AM
MY GOD you've hooked me on Oliver. I've watched 20 videos tonight

They've got quite a following. You can see why.

Oliver's aloofness adds to the effect.

by Anonymousreply 50March 8, 2019 8:56 AM

I would love to have a dog as calm as Oliver.

by Anonymousreply 51March 8, 2019 9:03 AM

Had a mini poodle. She was a bitch and would.snarl if hugged. Was not a rescue. Just a Bitch.

If she were in the mood, she would let me pet her.

Sort of like a a mean cat.

by Anonymousreply 52March 8, 2019 9:28 AM

You see fewer and fewer poodles nowadays. They mix them with other breeds. Maybe because they were too temperamental.

I had a Westie who could be growly when you hugged him, if he was in a bad mood. But never with my mother. But if my mother was away you could hug him as much as you liked. I think he was a one man dog who found himself with a big family and it didn't always suit him.

by Anonymousreply 53March 8, 2019 10:37 AM

* also he was unbelievably adorable looking which made you want to hug the hell out of him. It's not always easy being good looking.

by Anonymousreply 54March 8, 2019 10:39 AM

That bird video was hysterical. I couldn't make out what he was saying, but he was quite funny.

My slider turtle begs for food like a dog. When I come into the room., he climbs on the underwater filter, then gets up on his back flippers and presses his entire 10 inch body against the side of the tank. He then keeps banging against the glass until I feed him.

by Anonymousreply 55March 8, 2019 10:55 AM

I am a foster home for dog rescue and have had over 1000 fosters in my home over the past two decades. While most dogs long for human companionship, there are sometimes ones who want to be left alone.

One of my current long-term residents (a Siberian Husky) spent his first 11 years on a chain outdoors. He does not like being hugged, and cringes from you if you reach out to pet him. He likes the occasional ear scratch, but he must initiate the contact and come up to me. He will follow me from room to room, but always lays several feet away. He is also a silent Husky (very unusual for the breed) and barks only if he wants to come inside. We've taken in many other dogs who have lived on chains, so it is not solely because of environmental factors. This guy is more like an aloof, judging cat.

by Anonymousreply 56March 8, 2019 11:05 AM

A dog's natural instinct when he feels like he's being restrained is to escape. That what a dog feels when someone (even his own human) tries to hug him too long.

by Anonymousreply 57March 8, 2019 11:20 AM

This guy hugs him for about 1 minute before he escapes.

The dog has a personality disorder.

by Anonymousreply 58March 8, 2019 8:16 PM

And even in that one minute returnszero affection.i'd take him back to the breeder or give him up for adoption. I wouldn't want to own such a dog. Life's cold enough.

by Anonymousreply 59March 8, 2019 8:17 PM

He's happy with the dog how it is - and that's all that matters.

by Anonymousreply 60March 8, 2019 9:31 PM

Dogs don’t like being hugged, OP. Any dog behaviorist will tell you that. They are usually fine with cuddling, but being hugged does nothing for them and can annoy them.

I certainly have had some otherwise sweet natured pups that thought they were being dominated aggressively and wouldn't put up with hugs, especially from behind.

Oliver reminds me that I need to check out beagles at the Humane Society.

Beagles 9
Another breed of dog that has been proven very challenging to train is the Beagle. Though these dogs are[bold] very cute and cuddly,[/bold] (clearly not the case here) they can easily drive you up the wall, especially when you are trying to train them to do certain things. Beagles can’t be necessarily considered stupid dogs, but they are very independent, which makes training much harder than it is with many other breeds of dog. This breed is always sure to provide its owner love and attention, especially after the long day of learning how to heel. Beagles are generally small to medium sized dogs and are great with children and other breeds of dogs, just not cats.

by Anonymousreply 77March 9, 2019 10:18 AM

"loving and cuddly"

Looks like this guy got himself a dud.

by Anonymousreply 79March 9, 2019 10:20 AM

The guy in R63 is not hugging that dog. He is caressing the dog. The dog wouldn't feel like it was being restrained and knows it can simply get up and easily walk away if it wanted to.

by Anonymousreply 80March 9, 2019 10:33 AM

My Frenchie hugs me. She jumps up on my chest, puts her front paws around my neck and stretches. I think she would climb inside of me if she could. My friend rescues dogs and they definitely have their own personality, no matter the breed.

NEWSFLASH from R81

[bold] My friend rescues dogs and they definitely have their own personality, no matter the breed. [/bold]

Thanks, R81. Who would have known?

by Anonymousreply 82March 9, 2019 10:36 AM

When I was still pretending I could become straight—I think I was in my "bi" phase—I had a girlfriend. She had a beagle. And that dog loved no one as much as he loved me. He would sit on the sofa cuddling with me and smooching, and what not, until I would put him on the floor. And then he would get back on the sofa. Because I was there. And he loved me.

Another day, I will tell you about the beagle who hated me (she would piss where she knew I would sit).

by Anonymousreply 86March 9, 2019 10:54 AM

Dogs are like people in that they all have their own personalities, quirks, and behaviors. My latest Boxer, Jackpot, for example has always been rather sober in relation to me - he's a typically hyped and rambunctious Boxer in all other regards, but with me? Psht! I swear it wasn't until after he turned one year old that he first wagged his nub at me. I'd do the fake crying thing with him to see what type of response I'd get - he'd just walk over to his mat, let out a deep audible exhale and plop down into laying position - "MARY!" haha It wasn't until he was a few years old that I was setting his filled water bowl on his tray, and putting some food into the other bowl that he first gave me a lick on the cheek - the very first of NOT so many! He's just not an affectionately demonstrative dog, and he wasn't from the time I first knew him at six weeks old. Other than snuggle up right next to me to lay down and nap, there's not much else he cares to express. He WILL give a high-five every now and then. I just let him be him - he is vastly different in temperament from my previous three. Now that he's an old dude not long for this world, he's more sober than ever.

by Anonymousreply 87March 9, 2019 11:31 AM

Beagles are very clever about escaping from their confines. So, they are not stupid, just very independent.

by Anonymousreply 88March 9, 2019 11:33 AM

What's the point of having non cuddling dogs? If I wanted indifference I'd adopt humans.

by Anonymousreply 89March 9, 2019 11:35 AM

My dog was very affectionate in general. But he was reserved with the licks. If he licked my hand it was because he meant it.

by Anonymousreply 90March 9, 2019 12:25 PM

My neighbors had small children years ago and decided they should get a dog. They went to a shelter and came home with a beagle. This was before the internet. They didn’t bother to go to a library, book store or pet shop to read about dogs we are a development of 50 houses surrounded by farm fields. Just about everyone who got a dog here, they just opened the back door and let the dog out. Nobody had a fenced-in yard because it was “the country.”;

Guess how many times the dog disappeared until found by someone miles away who called the dog catcher (I mean “animal control”) to come and pick it up? Yep —every single time they let the dog out.

They took the dog back to the shelter. They never bothered to read up on beagles, so they didn’t know they are scent hounds who will sniff the ground, smell a deer or rabbit and take off following the scent.

by Anonymousreply 91March 9, 2019 3:45 PM

Most cats and dogs are intelligent or at least aware of certain daily rituals changing.

My friends cats know the difference between her and husband leaving for work everyday and going on a trip. Every time they are about to leave for a vacation, the cats start acting weirder than usual and one always pisses on the any luggage they have by the door.

The cats are never alone when they're on vacation, the next door neighbor comes in to feed them and spend time with them every day they're away.

by Anonymousreply 92March 9, 2019 4:35 PM

Aren't beagles among the dumbest dogs along with chihuahuas and lhasa apso?

R73 Go Fuck yourself!

by Anonymousreply 93March 9, 2019 4:43 PM

Dogs don't particularly like to be hugged as it makes them feel trapped.

They would much rather lie on your lap or put their head on your lap or against your arm or leg

I had a golden retriever growing up. He would sleep back to back with me or across my feet, which I understand is common with dogs. When I was younger I'd use him as a pillow when I watched TV

The only time he'd "hug" me is when I came home from school, he'd jump up and put his head on my shoulder, put those were pretty brief.

by Anonymousreply 94March 9, 2019 5:05 PM
They took the dog back to the shelter. They never bothered to read up on beagles, so they didn’t know they are scent hounds who will sniff the ground, smell a deer or rabbit and take off following the scent.

I was keen to get a Petit Griffon Basset Vendeen and when I made enquiries I was warned by everybody about this.

But they're SO cute.

by Anonymousreply 99March 10, 2019 5:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 100March 10, 2019 5:26 PM

Beagles aren't stupid, just independent. They are scent hounds so tend to be ruled by their noses that's why they should always be kept on leashes outside if not in a fenced in area(and should not be left alone in the fenced in area because most of them can climb fences).

They are very clever dogs(there are tons of videos of them making escapes or the stories of how they figured out how to get the treats they wanted that were supposedly put someplace they couldn't possibly reach). :) They are sweet, not every dog is always in the in the mood for hugs, but for the most part they love being with families, they are still very much pack dogs at heart and their people become their pack which is one thing that makes them good family dogs.

by Anonymousreply 102March 10, 2019 6:41 PM
They are very clever dogs(there are tons of videos of them making escapes or the stories of how [bold]they figured out how to get the treats they wanted that were supposedly put someplace they couldn't possibly reach). :)[/bold]

I dogsat for such a beagle. She got into cabinets I couldn't imagine she could reach. I had to keep her in her cage when I went out, something I never had to do with another dog.

by Anonymousreply 103March 10, 2019 6:53 PM

There are some breeds that don't care much for cuddling, shiba inu being one of them.

So is Oliver. Always.

He's Joan Crawford clean.

by Anonymousreply 108March 10, 2019 10:42 PM

You can see bits of his place from watching the videos.

And he's very close to a park which is very dog friendly where you can see him take Oliver.

Particularly in the video where he and Oliver take a walk on a very, very cold day. Sub zero. Because the man reacts to the cold.

This is also the one where Oliver wears his brown coat with the 2 pockets. The man put hand warmers in the coat pockets because he's worried about the cold.

by Anonymousreply 109March 10, 2019 11:11 PM

This is the latest video. Hot off the press.

Oliver never seems to show his owner any affection...even when he's giving him treats such as here.

Twice the owner puts his hand towards him to pet him and he moves away. It's subtle, but you can see it.

But I guess in DL land this is normal.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 110March 10, 2019 11:47 PM

Yes it is normal, Oliver is excited about the food. It's like they are afraid if they stop focusing on the food, somehow someone else will get it before them. LOL At dinner my dog is good actually, just sits there or walks from person to person, doesn't bark, doesn't jump but if you put your hand down to pet her and she realizes there is no food in it? Off she goes in the direction that she thinks will somehow allow a better view of or access to the food. :)

by Anonymousreply 111March 10, 2019 11:58 PM

I wish he'd get Oliver a companion.

by Anonymousreply 112March 11, 2019 12:01 AM

Clearly, Oliver has heard the motto....

Life is uncertain.

Eat Dessert First.

by Anonymousreply 113March 11, 2019 12:01 AM

I had a friend who had multiple beagles. When the last beagle died, my friend switched to Corgis. My friend said that the beagles were dumb (hard to train) and that Corgis were smart (easy to train).

I had a beagle as well (rescue dog). My beagle was very food-focused. My beagle was affectionate in his own way. Sometimes, he would put his two front paws on my two shoulders (like a hug). Other times, he would rest his back against my back.

by Anonymousreply 114March 11, 2019 1:07 AM

I’m confused why dumb is being equated with hard to train, and smart is considered easy to train? Perhaps beagles are more willfull, yet intelligent and like rebelling against the man and saying fuck you to your roll overs and boundary invading hugs.

How do you know he's closeted?

by Anonymousreply 121July 19, 2020 11:24 PM

Well, he's closeted on the YouTube videos. He refers to "we" owning Oliver but the second person is never shown. Gotta protect the frau fanbase and ad revenue, I guess.

How was that worthy of a video?

This is like a Kids in the Hall sketch.

I don't think so. Young gurls love their gay youtube pals. I doubt he has a huge frau following. Also, any frau who loves dogs enough to follow Oliver would not be a homophobe. Maybe the BF doesn't want to appear.
I had a friend who had multiple beagles. When the last beagle died, my friend switched to Corgis. My friend said that the beagles were dumb (hard to train) and that Corgis were smart (easy to train).

It took him multiple Beagles to realize this? Who's the stupid one?

Some dogs just want to cuddle on their own terms. We had a labrador that would sometimes come over to cuddle, but whenever he was asleep on the floor and I'd snuggle up to him, he would get up and go to a new spot.

I've heard it said that they don't like to have people hovering above them. They like you to be at eye level.

Oliver doesn’t like to cuddle AT ALL. He HATES his owner.

I don't understand their house/apartment.

You enter and have to walk down two full flights of stairs to reach the living room/kitchen.

Is this a Chicago thing?

He hadn't just “entered” the house at the start of the video, he'd just given the dog a bath.
