Things You've Been Spelling Wrong

Writer Robert Guerrero

I just now noticed that when I type "Dukes Of Hazard" Chrome told me it was spelled wrong

All this time I was spelling it wrong.

yes....two (2) z's in Hazzard

Who puts two letters in, where only one is needed? How pompus

I just learned two things. That was a tv show. And Hazzard is indeed spelled with two ‘z’s.

I always thought it was just an idiom that meant people (specifically male) who seek risk or cause trouble. I just looked it up because I was going to post something which is moot now.

I was about 50 when I learned a final resting ground is not spelled with a "n." It's cemetery. I actually have a Ph.D.

The smartest person I've ever known, a Rhodes scholarship finalist and Ph.D. who was my classmate, used "supposeably" instead of "supposedly."

Most people misspell it as "cemetary." My mnemonic: "Make your teacher blithe and merry ... put no 'a's in 'cemetery'. "

My spelling has gotten worse and worse as I just type quick and let spell check do the resssst.

One of the best Dilbert cartoons has an employee talking to the Pointy Haired Boss

Employee) And for your information my name is Myron NOT Moron. Be more careful when you use spellcheck

Pointy Haired Boss) I have spellcheck?

I used to spell prerogative "perogative" until I got it wrong on a test. My spelling has been deteriorating for years, but that's my perogative.

For all intensive purposes this thread is over.

by Anonymousreply 13November 4, 2022 8:07 PM

OP, I think the real issue here is why would you be typing Dukes of Hazards even once, let alone multiple times?

by Anonymousreply 15November 4, 2022 8:22 PM

Say you were writing fan letters to that DREAMY John Schneider.

by Anonymousreply 16November 4, 2022 8:24 PM

Not op but a lot of us grew up on that show

by Anonymousreply 17November 4, 2022 8:25 PM

I used to write fan letters to Dorothy Sarong, Her last name is spelled Lamore

by Anonymousreply 18November 4, 2022 8:52 PM

What I don't understand is why so many people either don't use or just ignore spell check. It's amazing how many times you see misspellings like "alot." Obviously spell check can't catch things that are misspelled with another valid word (e.g., desert/dessert, passed/past) but things that are flat out invalid words should always be flagged and corrected.

^ or maybe some ppl just ignore the red line to send kunts like you into a tizzy

by Anonymousreply 20November 4, 2022 9:48 PM

^ maybe some people should focus on bigger things in life.

What? You thought that "cemetery" was spelled "cenetery"?

Also, it's "an 'n.'"

This wasn’t wrong, per say, but I worked in a government ministry with “public” in the name. We always had to check our documents and emails in case we mistyped it “pubic”.
