The Spanish Bourbons are one fucked up family. Juan Carlos, who was for decades thought to be a national hero, turns out to be a grifter; Sofia is an enormous bitch; Elena is also corrupt and her husband is a jailbird; and both Elena's and Cristina's marriages failed.
Fortunately Felipe's and Letizia's marriage seems to be going well and their daughters are absolutely beautiful.

These consorts who don't like their sons' wives seem really stupid to me because their husbands will likely predecease them, and they'll be reliant on their daughter-in-laws' good graces. The empress emerita of Japan Michiko was also supposedly extremely bitchy to the current empress Masako and bullied her terribly (just as Michiko had been bullied by Hirohito's wife). I hope Masako is getting her revenge now.

R90 Doing some research, this appears to be a kind of "take control of the narrative" before a story breaks in the Swedish press. So, the gossip is that all is not well in Victoria and Daniel's marriage. Apparently the gossip has been circling in press circles in Sweden since 2019 when it began to be noticed that the couple were spending less and less time together and appearing at joint engagements less frequently, and when they did appear together they seemed to be avoiding each other. This was heightened in 2020, when allegedly Daniel was seen alone with another woman leaving a flat in Stockholm causing whispers that he was having an affair. It's suggested that one of the main media outlets in Sweden was about to release a story suggesting that there was serious trouble in the marriage.

I don't believe the rumours that Victoria and Daniel's marriage is in trouble. Maybe they hit a rocky patch but out of all the royal couples in Europe, they seem to be one of the happiest. Daniel hasn't appeared in public as often due to COVID as he has pre-exisiting medical issues.

That's too bad to hear about Victoria and Daniel. He does have to be more careful because he's taking anti-rejection drugs for his kidney transplant which are immunosuppressive. And with the types of policies the government had early pandemic, he was likely not seen at all as the virus spread unchecked. Maybe it's momentary Covid cabin fever? Almost all couples weather marital strife at one point or another, but Covid is another stressor and if you're staying home and cooped up... My neighbors across the street and the neighbors I share a back fence with both broke up within the last year and a half. The latter had been having issues for a few years pre-pandemic, but stay at home with two kids killed that union for good. At least these two have multiple residences and resources.

I guess this got started with some tabloid gossip and then some of the mainstream press have been looking into because it does seem that for much of 2020 and 2021 Daniel and Victoria were not seen in public together as often. But they have two young children now and it's likely they want at least one to be at home with them as often as possible.
That being said, if if there marriage has soured, they will not get divorced. Daniel has done very well in royal life and a divorce while Victoria is within spitting distance of the throne probably isn't a good idea.

Based on Swedish tabloids, there might have been an affair in Victoria and Daniel’s marriage, but there have been issues for years with him having an angry, tempermental personality and having no qualms disparaging her in public.

That being said, it's no secret there was a ton of opposition with the royal court to Victoria marrying Daniel (including for her parents) as he was deemed to be too common for her. I suspect despite his success in the royal fold, there are a lot of [old queens] staff at court who still look down on him and don't take him seriously and that's probably a source of contention on his part and it could be he takes it out on Victoria from time to time. This seems to be a common thread with men who marry female members of royal families, Prince Philip had similar issues during his first decade of marriage to the Queen. Rather than jealousy, I think Daniel is probably frustrated not being taken seriously.

Queen Sonja wasn’t able to marry Harald until his father died. He was vehemently opposed to the marriage because Sonja was a commoner. fun fact: one day I was walking in Central Park and I saw two fraus in activewear with a baby stroller sitting on a park bench. My eyes caught the older woman’s and she gave me a slight knowing smile, the younger woman was busy with the baby. I realized it was Queen Silvia, who was visiting Princess Madeleine back when she lived in NYC. I remember hissing to my partner, “that’s Queen Silvia of Sweden!!!!” but he didn’t think it was a big deal because really, they looked just like anyone else. The King of Norway has extended his sick leave and his continues to recovery from covid. Prince Haakon will continue as regent. The palace is not giving any updates on his health though.....I don't think this is a good sign. He's in his 80s, has had cancer, had surgery last year for knee (and possibly heart issues too).

Maybe r268. I mean the Jordanian Royal Court has -always- been rife with craziness and intrigue, that's nothing new it went on fully during his father Hussein's reign, so am not sure what he's on about. Seems to be a ploy to try to stir up the public and gain some traction there, invoking his dad.
Hamzah and his younger full brother have always been trouble at court. The younger brother was charged with drugs at one point, as a late teen granted but still (not sure it this was in Jordan or the US, can't remember). I sense Noor behind some of this as well, she always thought her sons should succeed Hussein, even though they were boys when he died and they had several able-bodied, older half-brothers. Abdullah stepped up and has done a fairly good job as monarch.
Noor had to leave Jordan and stop living there full time when she kept stepping on Raina's spotlight, the situation became untenable and she was pushed out. Went to live in the US for most of the year, although she does visit Jordan often.

He might have, but apparently he wasn’t prepared for the backlash Grace received from old Monte Carlo society, who felt a film star cheapened the brand of their sovereign prince. Grace won them over in time though, as she was a model consort to the public and raised the profile of the principality considerably.
I think Rainier let Grace narrate special programming, and read poetry.

Izzie is wearing a very valuable natural pink pearl brooch which belonged to her great-great grandmother Queen Alexandrine of Denmark. I like that Queen Margrethe is generous letting her daughters-in-law, nieces, and now granddaughter wear important family pieces.
I think the cream colored suit was very smart on her too, she has sort of the shape and head of one of the Orange princesses so it was a flattering look for her.

Hays-sus Prince Christian is hella tall. He towers over both of his parents now, by several inches. Either that, or Frederik and Mary are shorter than I realized.
Either way, very attractive and pleasant looking family. Very photogenic, all of them - not all of the current royal families can claim that.

Pa Donaldson is just about Mary’s height, maybe even half inch shorter. I think Christian’s height must come from Queen Margrethe II, who was almost 6’ tall in her youth before she started shrinking like all old ladies do.

R371, that does make sense. Certain features like character traits or height also often skip a generation (which is, next to being spoilt, another reason why grandchildren often get along pretty well with their grandparents).
