The Junko Furuta case

Writer Andrew Hansen

I just about about it. First of all, if you are not already familiar with the case, look it up with extreme caution. I regret ever having read about it, but now I can't get it out of my head. It's probably the single most disturbing case I've heard of.

I don't understand how it happened. She was imprisoned in the apartment of one of the boy's families. His parents were around for all of this. His mother KNEW she was imprisoned and told her son to release her, but, clearly, he did not. They managed to keep her captive, and continued to torture her, without the parents intervening for 41 days. Apparently, the mother was scared of her son?

There is so much messed up about this, including the fact all of the murderers are now free because they were minors at the time of the crime. I think only one was identified. Why weren't the parents prosecuted? HOW DOES THIS GO ON IN YOUR APARTMENT AND YOU DO NOTHING?

Finally, I feel like this case is an indictment of Japanese society and the way they treat women.

I lived in Japan for quite a while and speak and read the language. It is very weird and people under great pressure not to attract attention to themselves or their families. It's crowded and you're always around people but at the same time it's very lonely.

Japanese culture feels very arcane to me r2

by Anonymousreply 4March 10, 2021 9:39 PM

R2, almost every non-Japanese person I've known who lived there for some amount of time says the country did a number on their psyche. Extroverts, especially.

I wish I hadn’t read about it, either.

Japan definitely has the most bizarre fetishes ... while simultaneously pixelating genitalia

OP just wants to start an inflammatory thread about Japanese citizens, Japanese politics, Japanese culture...

He doesn't give two shits about the Junko Furuta case other than using it to gaslight his hate speech. He and his internet troll farm minions will be hard at work on this one.

by Anonymousreply 8March 11, 2021 1:57 PM

I don't think so, OP. I was just thinking about it. It's haunting and infuriating.

Mighty big assumptions there, r8. Funny that calling out "trolls" is becoming a tactic of trolls around here.

Does it quiet your suspicions to know that, possibly, the most disturbing US case I've heard about is the Theresa Knorr case?

by Anonymousreply 10March 11, 2021 2:27 PM

Oh, shut up R8. DL has a long tradition of discussing murder cases.

Is she the one who ended up floating in the water tank of some hotel in LA?

by Anonymousreply 12March 11, 2021 3:03 PM

Thanks for the warning, OP. I didn't read it and appreciate your honesty. When I learn about something that I can't get out of my mind, I think the only way to get rid of it is to share it. I think that's what you're trying to do and I don't want it.

Japanese culture is now a strange blend of East and West. It's a nation that's been thoroughly neutered militarily speaking.

by Anonymousreply 14March 11, 2021 3:18 PM

You're welcome, r13. I wish I'd been warned

I had the same reaction to the Cold Case Files episode about Theresa Knorr. Knew nothing about the case and figured it was a garden-variety homicide. That one haunted me for a long, long time

No, that was me.

by Anonymousreply 16March 11, 2021 3:26 PM

This same stuff is happening all over the world right now. It's terrifying.

Chinese panopticon please. It'll end all crime and terror.

by Anonymousreply 17March 11, 2021 3:32 PM

I read about it a couple of weeks ago. My mind is still reeling about what happened to that poor girl.

If there ever was a reason to do a honor killing, this would be it. Hunt them down and torture their asses.

Re R9 watch her other videos about UK cases. UK criminal penalties are outrageously lenient.
