The High and the Mighty
Christopher Lucas
A movie so bad, it’s good! This film has been amusing me all morning. From John Wayne clutching a burning teddy bear to the creepy dialogue including lines from an Asian woman like: you American women are so beautiful, me feel so ugly (paraphrase)

Another amusing line i thought id never hear, John Wayne exclaiming: I need a big man… interested? Grab me around the waist!

It was John Smith that did it for me.

Yeah he’s very good looking. Everyone looks great in this one, makes me nostalgic for the era of glamorous air travel.

Classic movie music by Tiomkin. Gives you something to hum -- or better yet, whistle -- for days maybe years afterwards.

Isn't it basically the original Disaster Movie?

The Dimitri Tiomkin theme became very popular.

Ryan Murphy should do an American horror story series in homage to this type of disaster movie. It would change things up a bit and could be both comical and gory at the same time.

R7 indeed, this tune is very catchy!

This movie is so terrible, but fortunately I at least got some chuckles out of some of the awful acting. Just mentioned the old IMDb forums in another thread but am going to mention them again: I remember saying this was a terrible movie and getting the nastiest comments from John Wayne fans who would not hear a word of it. There's even an old "trivia" item on the IMDb's page for the movie saying this is "widely considered Wayne's best performance," which I think someone posted out of spite.

I love this movie. Love the theme music. The scene where the blond woman takes off her makeup was shocking to me.

I love how John Wayne still gets triggered at the start of the movie remembering his previous air crash that killed everybody on board, yet he’s still been cleared to fly this passenger jet from Honolulu to Sam Francisco

Also what are the chances of being involved in two big plane disasters. John Wayne was living original embodiment of the “final destination” curse

Doe Avedon was rather good in her role as the stewardess. I’m somewhat surprised she didn’t have many roles in motion pictures after that. She seemed like the quintessential 50s starlet in the way grace Kelly was

Good movie. And three years earlier than Zero Hour which later became Airplane/Airport.
