The Diva to End ALL Divas
Andrew Hansen
"Lethal Weapon" star got costar Clayne Crawford fired and replaced; now announces he's quitting the series himself.

Nice way to fuck over the new guy. Wayans is such an asshole. We all know he got Clayne Crawford kicked off, I guess he figured he couldn't get away with it twice without people saying HE's the problem, so instead, he's quitting.

[quote]Asked by Jill Monroe what’s next, Wayans said: “I’m gonna return to the stage and try to find my smile again. … I think you have to look yourself in the eye and go, ‘Who are you?’ And it can’t all be about work. You know, I’m from a big family, a loving family, and I haven’t seen them. All the family gatherings — I’m too tired [or] can’t because it conflicts with work. I have seven grandkids. I’ve been missing recitals and graduations, and to me it’s not worth it.”
Why did he fucking agree to do the series in the first place? I think he was just unhappy and took it out on everyone around him.

I saw the episode with the new guy, I like it better.
| by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 3, 2018 9:12 PM |
You knew it was Wayans causing the real drama when nearly the entire cast signed a letter in support of Crawford prior to his being fired. Nice job Damon- now a lot of cast and crew people are gonna be out of work.
| by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 3, 2018 9:15 PM |
This idiot is homophobic and has made fun of gays many times in the past. I'm surprised he's still around.
| by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 3, 2018 9:17 PM |
so this show is cancelled?
| by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 3, 2018 9:22 PM |
I was surprised he wanted to do the show. He was responsible for content in his two hit TV shows. My guess is the paycheck just wasn't enough to keep him interested.
| by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 3, 2018 9:30 PM |
He could've quit in the spring so your castmates and the crew could have booked other jobs. He's an asshole
| by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 3, 2018 9:52 PM |
Why did he stop writing movies? He's great!
| by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 3, 2018 9:55 PM |
Man, that production is fucking shit show. Is keeping the property alive worth the trouble?
| by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 3, 2018 9:56 PM |
I went to the premiere of SWS new horror movie a few weeks ago and they mentioned he couldn't make it because of the Lethal Weapon schedule.
And now this. Thanks Damon

Quitting because you hate the job that’s ruining your life makes someone a diva? He said that he gave enough notice for producers to find a replacement which doesn’t sound like diva behavior to me.
| by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 3, 2018 10:00 PM |
Quitting in the middle of the season makes you a diva R13. Shows staff up at the beginning of production. If he had bounced at the end of last year, the hundreds of people working on the show could have found other jobs
| by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 3, 2018 10:04 PM |
It’s not in the middle of the season. They have a 13-episode order this season. He’s fulfilling that then moving on.
| by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 3, 2018 10:06 PM |
It's normal for a bubble show to get a half season order and then a pickup if it does well. Everyone expected a pickup. Damon just killed that.
| by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 3, 2018 10:10 PM |
But they most likely would have the back nine picked up. The 13 was a cautious move to see if it bombed without Crawford. It isn’t doing gangbuster ratings, but it grew from its Gifted lead-in last night and most likely would have received the back nine order to finish out the season.
They went to all the trouble to salvage the show for Wayans. They could have very easily have just canceled it at the end of last season. You don’t go through all the trouble of rebooting a show and then cancel it after 13 episodes. He screwed the cast and crew out of the rest of the year of work. They could have been searching during pilot season instead of January.

Quitting in the middle of the season when you got the other lead fired makes you a HUGE diva.
Don't tell me it's raining when you piss on my leg.
| by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 3, 2018 10:13 PM |
I can't believe any Wayans still has this much power. Is it 1992?
| by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 3, 2018 10:15 PM |
This is going to hurt him big.
he's had so many chances to make it big in Hollywood, but he keeps wrecking it for himself because he's such a diva. Remember when he behaved so badly (and homophobically) during a skit on SNL because he was angry, and Lorne Michaels had to fire him? He's a homophobic asshole filled with rage.
| by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 3, 2018 10:15 PM |
Plus, Scott joins the show only for it to get cancelled. That's like going through a job interview and then right after you get hired, they shut down.
If he's so unhappy, he should've quit after season 2
| by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 3, 2018 10:16 PM |
Yes, it feels like an attempt to make Scott look bad too. The way Wayans told it, Crawford was the rotten apple on the show and after Wayans got his co-star fired everything would be one big happy family with a new co-lead.
Now two eps in and he’s already throwing in the towel.
Crawford recently did a podcast where he claimed neither he nor Wayans ever wanted to do the show but they felt pressured by their managers and execs. They both sound like divas to me and I liked the show! Have watched every episode. The reboot is not great and exposes that Crawford was the heart and soul of the show.
| by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 3, 2018 10:20 PM |
All they have to do is hire Crawford back and have him be SWS's partner
| by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 3, 2018 10:22 PM |
Was Crawford really that big a deal that network execs would big him to do a show R22?
| by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 3, 2018 10:27 PM |
R17, January is pilot season
| by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 3, 2018 10:34 PM |
R22, I don’t know if Crawford was implying they thought he was a big deal, just that this is where they wanted his career to head; his heart wasn’t in it, but he had no other options so he fell to their pressure and took it.
In an industry where many would kill to have series regular gigs on a TV show, this isn’t a good look for them, especially Wayans whom the execs bent over backwards to make happy and still had to watch him walk.
| by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 3, 2018 10:35 PM |
I don't even watch the show, but I like that idea, R23. Every episode could have endless discussion of what a dick Wayons/Murtaugh was to work with.
| by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 3, 2018 10:36 PM |
[quote]Quitting because you hate the job that’s ruining your life makes someone a diva?
Absolutely. Committing to a TV series is a commitment. You are telling everyone involved you are their guy and ready go into business together.
Ducking out because "it is too much work!" is a slap in the face of everyone involved in the project, and all the other actors would have killed for that role. He was the fucking lead actor, that's not behavior that is tolerated.
| by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 3, 2018 10:44 PM |
They should replace him with Kim Wayans. I'd watch then!
| by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 3, 2018 10:50 PM |
Knew Damion Wayne was the problem .
| by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 3, 2018 11:04 PM |
I'm not clear on what a reboot is exactly. The show didn't skip a beat as far as the schedule. Twenty-two episodes last season ending on May 8th. The the first episode this season on September 25th. Pretty routine.
The Cole and Riggs characters are really not different.
It's more like the changing cast on Law and Order. Certainly no one considered it a reboot when Stone left and was replaced by McCoy.

Crawford gave a great performance as Ted Jr. on Rectify for 4 years. A show that was loaded with incredible actors. No one in the Rectify cast had a problem with him.

[quote]Remember when he behaved so badly (and homophobically) during a skit on SNL because he was angry, and Lorne Michaels had to fire him? He's a homophobic asshole filled with rage.
When was he ever an SNL cast member?
| by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 4, 2018 12:28 AM |
[quote]No one in the Rectify cast had a problem with him.
Unless you worked on the set, you have no clue if people had a problem with him.
| by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 4, 2018 12:33 AM |
I grew up with Kim's husband. He's a great guy.
| by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 4, 2018 12:37 AM |
I love all the Wayans but Damon has always come across as an asshole. He seems resentful that he never became a movie star.
This was such a dick move. And the fact that he credits himself for giving the producers enough notice just proves what a narcissistic asshole.
I am glad he is getting trashed on social media. I hope the show survives without him.
| by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 4, 2018 12:48 AM |
At the very least R35, no one hated him enough to trash him in the media

[QUOTE] He screwed the cast and crew out of the rest of the year of work
He got a bunch of crew members fired too
[QUOTE]But several other crew members who were friendly with Crawford are being let go, according to sources, in part to provide a fresh start for Season 3.

Don't feel sorry any crew members. They are all in unions, there is plenty of work to be had with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Apple, etc, and most of them are giant douchebags like Wayans and Crawford.

The 85-86 season.
| by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 4, 2018 12:56 AM |
Maybe his son Dmon Wayans Jr can take over. They look like twins and, lets face it, his new CBS show aint gonna last.
| by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 4, 2018 1:50 AM |
Is Damon Jr a diva like Daddy?
| by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 4, 2018 2:06 AM |
His son is not a diva, but is a bro and makes a lot of exaggerated homophobic gay "jokes" like his dad and uncles.
| by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 4, 2018 2:10 AM |
When has Damon Wayons Jr ever said something homophobic? I've never heard of this.
| by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 4, 2018 2:12 AM |
Junior is not homophobic at all! Total lie.
| by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 4, 2018 2:19 AM |
He wouldn't say anything publicly. I worked with him on New Girl and his dad on Lethal Weapon. All of the Wayans are well-known homophobes and speak in mocking gay voice regularly.
| by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 4, 2018 2:19 AM |
R47 They found out that their own brother was gay and had AIDS. All of a sudden their homophobia wasn't so funny anymore.
| by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 4, 2018 2:23 AM |
New article from Deadline makes him sound like a serious asshole:
I hear the announcement blindsided everyone, and he notified neither the studio nor the Lethal Weapon producers before doing the bombshell statement to Electronic Urban Report.
Wayans rarely does publicity for Lethal Weapon; he resisted/refused doing it early on and is not even asked to anymore."
Wayans sounded bleak in today’s interview. “It’s hard for me to play this loving, supportive father/husband/friend on TV but be the guy in life that who’s telling everybody, ‘I can’t — I have to work,’ ” he said. “This has been very hard… I’ve been missing recitals and graduations, and to me it’s not worth it,” he added, noting that he is leaving to “try to find my smile again.”
