Suzanne Pleshette appreciation thread

Writer Daniel Martin

I’ve always loved this late, great actress and felt she was underrated. Loved her so much on The Bob Newhart Show.

She replaced Anne Bancroft in The Miracle Worker on Broadway

I loved her in the episode of Columbo when she plays opposite Eddie Albert.

Her beauty was underrated

Yes, R2. Good episode of Columbo. Nobody believes Suzannne’s character at first after witnessing the murder. She was portrayed as a bit ditsy.

Her turn as Leona Helmsley should be in the Campfest Hall of Fame.

Some thought her character in “The Birds” was a lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 7January 30, 2023 12:20 AM

R7- That Mrs. Bundy was DEFINITELY a Lesbian.

She HATED Patty Duke Astin. HATED her.

Her performance really isn't camp, r6.

by Anonymousreply 12January 30, 2023 12:31 AM

Loved her guest roles in Route 66

by Anonymousreply 13January 30, 2023 12:36 AM

She had a really deep sexy voice...

but we couldn't make a go of it, because I craved dick too much.

by Anonymousreply 14January 30, 2023 12:36 AM

She really isn't camp as Leona (the movie is, though). She should have had a crack at Joan Crawford - she may have made her human.

She married Tom Poston from Newhart. Was in the pilot episode of the Wild Wild West

I adored Suzanne from the moment I saw her in 40 Pounds of Trouble with my crush Tony Curtis. I shrieked with girlish horror when she was killed in The Birds the same year, thus giving away my nascent homosexuality to my parents. I think Suzanne's voice partly came from a serious smoking habit, as did her emphysema and her cancer. Gorgeous woman with the most bewitching eyes. May she rest in peace.

Queen of Mean is one of my favorite films, my only complaint is the costumes sometimes don't work. She played a hot number in this fun little film and looked the part despite having no chemistry with her male lead.

I remember her saying she refused Palm Spring Weekend and wondered if Stefanie Powers forgave her.

Her Television Academy interviews are fun. She says they stowed her in a dressing room all day on the last episode of Newhart, "and that was my idea of hell, no telephone or shopping." She also says she left the cast party immediately out of respect to Mary Frann -- "that was her house."

by Anonymousreply 22January 30, 2023 1:09 AM

When she appeared on Columbo she didn't get along with Peter Falk at all.

by Anonymousreply 23January 30, 2023 1:33 AM

R22 Hmmmm was that not too little too late. Shows up, steals the entire series so that most only remember the final episode but left the party out of respect to Mary Frann. Yeah right! Probably stole the party in the same way when everyone spent the night saying 'Where's Suzanne?'

I love her camp TV movies from the 80s and think she was better looking at 45 than she was at 25 in The Birds

A RAGE TO LIVE (65) belongs in the "Datalounge Pantheon of the Cinematic Arts."

Long live Mrs. Bundy! "The gulls were after your fish, Mr. Shoals. Really, let's be logical about this!"
