I think she’s pretty good on the sketches and has a good voice and charisma. But the songs that get the releases are, like everyone’s today, the repetitive-hook ones with only three or four different notes that sound like nursery rhymes.

A new writing formula is developing which could quickly get tiresome: Normal Situation Goes Batshit Off the Rails With Escalating Absurdity.
See: The Night I Met Santa, the hotel ad, and going back a few weeks, Sarah Sherman's viral Update segment. They've done it several more times this season.
It's amusing, but it's a formula, and it's not trenchant social satire — it's just sit around and think about how things can get crazier and crazier for four minutes.

The next door sketch was great. I don't know why you all are hating on BIllie (other than it's DL and you hate everyone). She seems game for anything. And is a natural performer. I don't love, love her whisper voice, but at least she attempts to sound a little different than Taylor Rodrigo Dua Lipa.

Thirty minutes in and Billie is doing as well as anyone on the cast. I really dislike that people are so vicious to and about her. She's a kid. All her music was recorded when she was a teenager.
Besides that, nothing remarkable in a positive way, and the TikTok montage 'skit' (?) was just awful. I don't know if it was supposed to be funny or some kind of social commentary. It failed in both respects.

Do Kate McKinnon and Cecily Strong not get along? Cecily really stood out when Kate was missing and with Kate's return, Cecily was relegated to background player again.
I'm watching last night's episode starring Billie Eilish, and it really seems to be starring Kate McKinnon and it's less enjoyable than most this season. I think McKinnon can be pretty funny a lot of the time but she sure sucks up all the oxygen in the room.

Kate was a relief when Kirsten Wiig was made the centerpiece of the show and Cecily is a relief now that Kate has been made permanent star of the ensemble.

I think Kate is versatile characterwise but not when it comes to impressions of public figures. Her alien-/elf-abducted lesbo, blobfish, et al. show versatility. But her comic sensibility grates on me. I noticed while she was gone that the show hardly did any shit/fart/"period blood" jokes that were woven throughout episodes in which she has been the star, and I welcomed the absence.
Overall, though, I blame the producers for overindulging her as they did with Kirsten Wiig. Both are very funny and steal scenes they are in, but that's not justification for handing over the series to them.

Billie's first number was a mess. She was dancing(?) around the stage like a crazed mental patient. It was quite horrible and her routine lacked practice, polish and any hint of talent. The Weekend Update was equally really bad. Both anchors, but especially, the black one, laugh throughout their delivery. It really is unfunny, and they should probably replace 90% of the cast. Plus, they need to cut it down to no more than 10 people. It took nearly 20 minutes to name every cast member at the beginning of the show.

I assume Billie's first performance was meant to demonstrate that she can 'really sing'—e.g., sing with volume—since so many people claim she can't sing because she often coos. The song starts quietly as a stereotypical Eilish sound and then unexpectedly gets rock-y. I doubt she would have recorded a song like it had her vocal abilities not been questioned so often because of her trademark singing style.

I don't love the song, but I like her and I feel defensive on her behalf because the public began flogging her when she was just 16 or 17 years old and I don't think I've ever seen such a broad cruelty applied to a child in that way before. People were vicious about her appearance, her vocal abilities, her lyrics, they accuse her of being a puppet for her more-talented brother, etc. She's just a kid and I do think she is talented and I also find her to be a welcome departure from self-exploiting sexdoll pop starlets.

R84 She's conspicuously and self-consciously weird. I see her as a "try hard" and as the person in class who'd always have her hand up and would become the pet of some teachers and an annoyance to others. Evidently, Lorne adopted her as his favorite pet after doting on Wiig for years.
I think McKinnon is undeniably funny. She's just overused because she has overshadowed her colleagues.
I don't understand why Cecily Strong is not featured more. All I can imagine is that she must not pitch as many ideas as others, or maybe she's just not as willful. She's definitely the gem of the cast to me. McKinnon once was co-gem along with Strong for me, back before she was made the unofficial star.
