Muriel nixed my poll. Sorry guys…

I'm really frustrated at the way NPR and some other respected broadcasters are normalizing these hideous affectations. There are people on NPR that I genuinely cannot bear to listen to.

by Anonymousreply 3November 9, 2021 4:03 AM

On our next show, we'll go into the reasons OP should be canceled?

Link please.

It’s like the death penalty for one’s vocal folds and nodules. Creaky!

by Anonymousreply 6November 9, 2021 4:06 AM

R3 Totally agree! There are NPR reporters who prompt me to mute the radio (even if they are covering topics I care about) Do they listen to their own voices? Not everyone has a voice for radio.

by Anonymousreply 7November 9, 2021 4:14 AM

Yes and a harsher sentence for those who abuse the usage of the word "literally".

by Anonymousreply 8November 9, 2021 4:32 AM

Along with “so”, “basically” and “like”, R8.

by Anonymousreply 9November 9, 2021 4:52 AM

May I suggest the severing of a hand for the use of 'awesome'? I can't take it anymore.

by Anonymousreply 10November 9, 2021 4:55 AM

Here’s a vote for “amazing,” R10.

Sure, Jan. A poor workman blames his tools.

by Anonymousreply 12November 9, 2021 5:22 AM

And a real cunt cannot smell huh own cunt.

by Anonymousreply 13November 9, 2021 5:28 AM

People who constantly sing out the last word or two of a sentence in a high pitched, thinking it's "cutesy", voice should be shot.

by Anonymousreply 14November 9, 2021 5:50 AM

Well , like basically l am literally down there for Paris Hilton’s new show. Although literally I have now idea how to watch. Whatever.

by Anonymousreply 15November 9, 2021 6:02 AM

Vocal fry and up speak are not allowed in my classroom.

by Anonymousreply 16November 9, 2021 8:02 AM

R17 I say ‘ I don’t understand can you say it again in your normal voice’ I’ve done this countless times. I’ve stopped students in the middle of a presentation and had them start over. I do the same thing with students that mumble. I just won’t tolerate it. There’s nothing worse than listening to someone who sounds like they have strep throat mixed with sing songy up speak.

This is oral rape!

by Anonymousreply 19November 9, 2021 8:27 AM

Lol@ R18. Thanks for the information. I appreciate the way you do your job. You are a credit to your profession, and you may save Western Civilization.

by Anonymousreply 20November 9, 2021 8:28 AM

Over a decade ago I helped my teenage niece overcome this habit by pointing out that she sounded bored and that prospective friends, romantic interests, employers and professors would dismiss her for their perceived lack of interest.

by Anonymousreply 21November 9, 2021 2:06 PM

R19, better "oral rape" than aural rape.

And, yes, OP. But I just give three hard chops to the throat to end it.

by Anonymousreply 22November 9, 2021 2:15 PM

Is it something kids pick up unconsciously from their peer group or do they deliberately try to sound like that?

by Anonymousreply 23November 9, 2021 2:16 PM

It should be used as torture at Gitmo.
