I was having dinner with friends. One of them asked what we thought of Sam Smith. I told them I couldn't stand him and he was annoying. My friend became annoyed and said he was going to Sam's concert.
I can't imagine sitting through what OP posted. I used to like Sam Smith but he is so thirsty and purposely off-putting that I don't want to listen to his music which is not very good. At her peak, with her shock antics, Madonna's music was good.

As many people have pointed out, Sam Smith is doing nothing pop stars weren't doing decades ago.
The problem with Sam is that that the other pop stars who did it could carry it off, artists with something to say, with personal style and good collaborators.
He's singing a 30 year old Madonna song which had an iconic video and a strong message.

Show outfits generally reveal more skin….should that skin absolutely have to be that of a skinny and athletic person? 99% of this type of performer have what would be considered ‘sexy’ bodies, what’s the big problem with a tiny minority of them not being that way?

Sam Smith's performances are cringe and a reflection of his discomfort with being a gay man and with his body, as is his claim to be nonbinary. His attempts to dress in an arty and edgy way are part of that. Except he's not artistically astute enough to be able to pull those looks off. With his "sexy" performances, it's as though he's trying to be casual and ironic about not having a stereotypically attractive body, but the effect is the opposite: with these performances he seems more fixated with his body and his hatred of it.
It's telling that Sam's self-declared supporters are ignoring his nonbinary identity and his request for they/them pronouns. When he publicly insists on something as dumb as the non-word "fisherthem" (surely it's fisherperson?), it's patently clear that there is something up with him and he is not in a good head space.

I disagree. I've seen plenty of gender realists criticise people for sharing Matt Walsh videos, arguing that feminism doesn't include appearing on Fox News and Tucker Carlson. The recent videos of Walsh humiliating trans activists at a Q&S session weren't shared by a lot of accounts despite them making their argument.
