I believe they had an interview on her solo show before the view, too.

during Ru's Divine phase of wanting to be taken seriously as an actor. . . after mtv didn't call back.

and Joy was given a show on the condition she stopped doing standup.

Would people please accept that RuPaul is a craven, selfish, egotistical "person of color" who thinks SHE has something relevant to say to people before she heads off to the ranch and the fracking hubby?

It will make things easier. Ru is Oprah without the weight problem and with more of a commitment to recreational substances other than KFC.

Whatever caused the tension happened off camera. My guess is that Joy probably made jokes about RuPaul being a drag queen and Ru got offended and snapped back. Joy used to be really obnoxious with forcing jokes at every opportunity, and she is old and making fun of men in dresses is easy fodder for her type of humor. Anyway, it was really uncomfortable to watch and she was right in that RuPaul came off far worse on camera than she did. I disliked Ru because of this until Drag race came along, but I also disliked Joy for the quasi-homophobic jabs.

But they moved on. They sat next to one another a few years ago and got along fine. Joy didn't say much except to ask why drag is important. Interestingly, there are several shots of just the two of them sitting together. Maybe the producer was hoping for another fight.

I believe 1997 would fall into the era during which Ru admits he had a major drug addiction, so he may have had poor impulse control back then.
