R27 Actually I knew them way back when... and they were a dynamic couple, but she was the "adult" and the smart one. Of course, Tom's coke use in the old days was massive... so she was the adult by default.

Using the argument that "this was taken out of context" and then saying that she said "Six millions Jews should die right now, because they cause all the problems in the world.” suggests that there is some alternative explanation why she would say something so disgusting — even in an attempt to claim she's being silenced on some other topic — bears no fruit.
If her point was to claim that the election was stolen because Joe Biden received more votes from fewer counties than Donald Trump, she is wrong, period. This is not a complicated topic. Human beings are social creatures that tend to congregate together. The Republicans are obsessed with the idea that Democrats congregate around cities; they've tried to use this for almost 50 years to paint cities as corrupt, overbearing on our society, and it's all just somehow suspect that 81 million people voted for the winner when we can all see the vast sea of red poured onto the electoral map... just don't look at that map when it portrays the actual number of people who live in the vast swath of the country vs. the number of people who congregate around areas of jobs, opportunity and growth.
Sew doubt. Inject fear. Subsume truth with lies. Claim power over the majority. Authoritarianism complete.
Rosanne is just saying out loud the parts that wreck the authoritarian dreams of complete control.

The point is not whether she was making a joke, it's that this is something you should not joke about, because it's dangerous, and gives cover to a lot of worse people to claim they're just joking when they're really sending dog whistles and trying to move the window of what's normal ever further rightward.

R96 I don't want to play devil's advocate here, but sometimes the only way to deal with something like that is through joking about it because it's too dark of a pill to swallow dry. This is by and large a major social function of comedy. I understand that that approach isn't going to appeal to everyone. My great-grandma was a German Catholic who married a Russian Jew and lost him in a Nazi raid in Ukraine—she was a profoundly sensitive woman and I'm sure she wouldn't find the murder of her husband and the father of her kids something to make jokes about—it ruined her life and she mourned him till the day she died. But I still think dark comedy still serves a purpose in these types of matters, even if it alienates some.
Given Roseanne's erratic history, it does look like she's toeing the line here to appease the right (which is probably true), but I still don't think she herself believes this. She has said before that she had family members who died in the Holocaust. She knows the gravity of the situation. If she's making the joke for mere shock value, there is some truth that she is selling herself out for brownie points from radicals on the right, and yes, it is socially irresponsible in the sense that it emboldens actual bigots. But I do still think she was fundamentally making a crass hyperbolic joke. It's a complicated subject and I have mixed feelings about it (and her).
