I always really liked Rob Lowe, not that I've followed him consistently or anything. But I checked out his podcast this week after hearing some good reviews of it. He seems like a natural at hosting a radio format show but, after an entire week of listening, he comes across as a delusional classist and, at times outright douchey. A good example is his latest episode where he interviews Joel McHale, (of all people.) They both go into how challenging their work is, with McHale whining about how his wife's family never took him seriously until he became famous. Rob says things like "I was BORN to do what I do. I wasn't put here to be an accountant, I was put here to be an actor/entertainer!". He also commented on how he felt offended by people in his hometown not respecting his 'craft' when he was starting out, saying that when he'd go home to see his parents, his dad would tell him that people were asking if Rob was "still playing in movies", (i.e., was he playing in anything?). Lowe said that he was always offended by that. "I mean, PLAYING! Just the WORD, the word they used, "Playing". Like what I do for a living is play, that what I do isn't hard or a REAL job!". McHale gushed his agreement and they both blew each other over how hard their fame is, etc. Lowe also talked about his sons graduating from Stanford, and Columbia Law and how he worried they "would end up as some office drone, working in a cubicle." Yeah Rob, 70% of us are "office drones". We're soulless and contribute nothing good to society, certainly nothing as important as ACTING or being a lawyer or comedian. Jesus.

He said more than that but his general demeanor and personality hit me as obnoxious, like he lives in a total bubble and really sees himself as some societal special class. I never thought of him that way, but based on his little show, I'll never have a positive opinion of him again.

That's not necessarily true. Good looks are often a result of judicious work, and by work I don't simply mean cosmetic surgery.

I haven’t listened to this episode, but in general I’m really liking it and get a pretty affable, laid back vibe. The most interesting one I’ve listened to so far (hate to say it) was with GP - maybe because they’re long time friends and felt very comfortable with each other.

R5 I’ve read all that too, and I don’t necessarily doubt it, but why then does he continually get hired? And he does seem to have a very good network of friends in the industry (why he keeps getting work).
