She absolutely did not deserve the first one for her hammy, Mammie Yokum impression in Cold Mountain. But that whole film was a failure.

The idea that multiple Oscars necessarily makes one a great actor was disproven by the very first person to win two (Luise Rainer), then demolished by the first person to win three (Walter Brennan).

The second two-time winner and the second three-time winner were far superior, and make a much better pair: Tracy and Hepburn.
