"Pumpkin" (2002) with Christina Ricci

Writer Harper Scott

I am surprised that nobody really talks about this movie—it's one of Christina Ricci's best roles, and is one of the most underrated comedies of the 2000s. It's pure jet-black humor, shot through with an overkill of '60s aesthetics that make the whole thing feel as though it takes place in an alternate reality. If nothing else though, it's funny, crude, and well-written. There is no way it could be made today in the cultural climate we live in; I am almost surprised they dared to make it in 2002.

She's just too off-putting. You could project IMAX on her forehead.

Christina's forehead aside, this is still a great movie.

Surprised there aren't more fans of this film on DL

Never heard of it. Feels like she disappeared after Penelope.

Christina was very good in this movie. Loved the ending

Oh wow. I vaguely recall this film... the trailer looks hilarious. She did a few edgy/ dark comedies around this time.

I always assumed the pumpkin in the film refered to her head.

Its a good film but I perfer her in The Opposite of Sex.
