For this last dinner in New York, the theme was “Embracing Your Inner Rhythms: for Individuals to Connect with their Menstrual Cycles.” After an hour of mindful movement and breath work, the women squeezed around a dining table covered in silk, dried flowers and butt-shaped water glasses and discussed their periods.

Years ago, I had a group of five gay friends who used to get together for the occasional dinner. We were young and single, so it was a good chance to socialize. One of the members suggested the strip dinner in which, after each course, some clothing would be removed until we were naked for dessert. Being young, it seemed like fun; it was, because we had been drinking, so the inhibitions were gone. The major excitement was finally being able to see the others naked, since I had envisioned what their bodies looked like for a long time.
