Porn in the early 70s

Writer James Williams

It is a fascinating time capsule. No idea how much of it was reflecting reality but it can be compelling even outside of the sex.

The backgrounds and streets scenes, SF and NY primarily are wonderful.

Toilet sex abounded and glory holes were big.

A lot of guys were into fisting and got hard with an arm up their butt.

Big bush ruled and even porn actors often had normal sized cocks.

Isn’t there a documentary about gay sex in the 1970’s?

by Anonymousreply 1March 28, 2021 12:10 PM

I do not know R1 but would love to see it if it exists.

by Anonymousreply 2March 28, 2021 12:19 PM

AND a lot of men did both straight and gay porn.

Jack Wrangler

Paul Thomas

Jamie Gillis

John Holmes

Jim Cassidy

David Morris

And a host of others whose faces I know but not names. I just saw one of the Color Climax gay loop collections and most of those cocksuckers also did the straight loops.

by Anonymousreply 3March 28, 2021 12:25 PM

Ewww! No one should be doing porn in their SEVENTIES!

by Anonymousreply 5March 28, 2021 12:26 PM

Degrees Rose! Why do you think all the studios are in the Valley?!?

by Anonymousreply 6March 28, 2021 12:40 PM

I used to pay for a site called timinvermont.com.

His name was tim he lived in Vermont, hence the name.

He had magazine and booklets of nude men back the 1890's. My favorite magazine were from the late 1960's to early 1970's. Almost all of the men had SLIM, natural bodies. I need to take a time machine back to 1971.

by Anonymousreply 7March 28, 2021 12:53 PM

R7 you can use my time machine but take condoms.

by Anonymousreply 8March 28, 2021 1:27 PM

Thank you. You are a gentleman and a scholar.

by Anonymousreply 9March 28, 2021 2:41 PM

Pure filth, if you ask me. This thread should come with a biohazard warning.

Old porn shows the interior design of decades ago better than Hollywood movies, where everything is consciously designed to be aesthetically appealing. In porn you see the floral sheets, ugly drapes, shag rugs etc. that were in an average household of the time. It’s usually hideous.

by Anonymousreply 12March 28, 2021 5:36 PM

I remember the first time I went into a porn booth at a store. The movie playing was from the 70’s showing two guys with heavy mustaches deep kissing.

That’s when I knew for sure—yeah, I’m gay

I’ve posted years ago about my time in adult from 1969 to 1979. Alex de Renzy, Frenchie K&T etc. Here is a documentary covering that period for those interested. It certainly is a time long ago and far away. How things have changed. Only 2 of my friends from that period are still alive. I love them both dearly and the memories we share.

R14 were you a performer or in another part of the business?

Rialto Report would love to hear from you.

by Anonymousreply 15March 29, 2021 9:35 AM

r14 Is that the video with a cameo from Dianne Feinstein?

by Anonymousreply 17March 29, 2021 1:31 PM

"Gay Sex in the 70s" is great. This one came out last year and made a big splash at festivals. The filmmakers also have a podcast and an Instagram, both also called "Ask Any Buddy" - the stories behind the original performers and directors - fascinating stuff. And then that documentary "Beefcake" as well, about Bob Mizer...

Can't find r18's film on any streamer. :(

Behold... a true DL'er. Talk about porn and penis leads to a critique of 1970s interior design in gay porn. Another reason to love it here, even with all of the bitching and bullshit that abounds.

Such wonderful, youthful memories. And so many in them gone.

by Anonymousreply 21March 29, 2021 3:18 PM

I like the guys in the old porn, but they never seem to cum inside each other. They always pulled out, which is a huge turnoff to me.

by Anonymousreply 22March 29, 2021 3:53 PM

That was the money shot, r22.

by Anonymousreply 23March 29, 2021 3:55 PM

New Netflix documentary called “Circus of Book” that covers this.

[quote]Porn in the early 70s

Most often viewed on a white sheet hung over a bookcase.

Those many of us who existed through the Seventies and were having sex then would be much better correspondents on life and sex in that decade than poor copies of pornography and the inadvertent social contexts they seem to communicate.

It was only yesterday, as the rest of you will learn.

by Anonymousreply 26March 29, 2021 4:42 PM

If you haven't seen the recent movie 'Goodbye Seventies' it scratches that 70's porn itch!

If I was alive in the 70s and had my same taste of men, but with all that freedom?

I would have been dead by 1981.

by Anonymousreply 29March 29, 2021 11:56 PM

I was poking around in a Sacramento antiques flea market in the '80s when I found a set of around 6 very old photos. Like late 1800s old. They had the cardboard frame around each. They were of a woman who looked drugged, on a bed with varying amounts of white linen undergarments. There were rows and rows of acupuncture needles all over her body. They were obviously porn, and for someone with a very particular fetish. Or maybe someone just figured something weird and vaguely Asian would sell. They wanted $50 each for them, but I was in college and could not afford to buy them. I hope they found their way into a museum or the collection of someone who knew how to care for them.

And knew how to carefully remove semen without damaging the photograph.

I would love to see this Ask Any Buddy film but other than old screenings it seems never to have been released.
