I will say they, you can see that they have chemistry and why they became a popular couple and I thought the actress playing Kayla did a decent job with the scene. The actor playing Patch on the other hand seemed like he was directed as if he was playing in a Carol Burnett soap skit, but less subtle.

I thought that was well acted.

Two things:

1. I had no idea Stephen Nichols is 70 now. He sure doesn’t look it on the show. 2. I don’t know how he hasn’t screwed up his vision from having to wear that eyepatch for 40 years. Poor guy.

I remember years ago seeing an interview with the two actors. They were asked about what's great about working in soaps and Patch said the scripts and the one who played Kayla looked at him with a shocked face. Hahaha so funny. Don't know why I clearly remember that.

It’s funny how different DAYS became by the mid 90s Reilly era compared to the Patch/Kayla, Jennifer/Emilio/April/Mike/Shane/Kimberly/Eve/Nick/Justin/Adrienne/Eve /Angelica/Neil/Jo late 80s DAYS

Almost all those characters were gone or recast

And Reilly dumbed down the writing, I’m actually glad that he never wrote for Patch and Kayla as they were off the show by then

He wrote for Kimberly a bit, Patsy Pease even returned as recurring in 1996

I don't know if this leads any credence to Chad coming out as bisexual rumor. According to one of those Chabby fan accounts on Twitter Billy Flynn was said to not be to thrilled with them killing Abby and that he doesn't want anything romantic to happen between Chad and Sonny.
