overture curtain lights

Writer Robert Spencer

Overture, curtain, lights This is it, the night of nights No more rehearsing and nursing a part We know every part by heart Overture, curtain, lights This is it, we'll hit the heights And oh what heights we'll hit On with the show this is it.

Tonight what heights we'll hit. On with the show, this is it.

Hmm. As a kid, I'd always heard that as 'Overture, cut the lights...'

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Or, for modern Broadway ..." On with the show, this is shit."

by Anonymousreply 3July 29, 2023 2:11 PM

R1 I always heard it as "Kirk the lights."

What's up, Doc? What's cookin'? What's up, Doc? Are you're lookin'

For Bugs Bunny bunting, Elmer's gone a-hunting

Just to get a rabbit skin but now the rabbit's gone again!

What's up, Doc? What's cookin'?

Hey! Look out! Stop! *KAPOW*

You're gonna hurt someone with that old shotgun! Eh, What's up, Doc?

We really mean it! What's... up... Doc!!

Bugs is totally a Phyllis.

I always loved that song. Still do.

Saturday morning ritual as a kid.

For some reason, this song has always reminded me of "Everything's Coming Up Roses." Maybe it's the use of "hit the heights" in both lyrics.

Oh, we're the Boys of the Chorus, We hope you like the show!

We know you're rooting for us, But now we have to go!!

As a kid, I'd always heard that as 'Overture, HIT the lights...'

I have to say what I feel. Miami has so much appeal.

Me too, R9, Saturday morning cartoons were a highlight of my childhood, along with "Creature Features" late at night, and the Warner Brothers cartoons were the BEST cartoons!

Looking back after decades of adulthood, I can say with complete sincerity that the Warner Brothers cartoons were my first introduction to great filmmaking.

I thought they were saying that until I read this thread.

Wow, I just realized that Bugs Bunny turned me into a theatre queen when I watched this show as a kid.

by Anonymousreply 19July 30, 2023 12:42 AM

Those cartoons were not only my first exposure to great filmmaking, R19, they were my first exposure to camp sensibilities!

I still wonder if Bugs' campy side was purely satirical, or if someone behind the camera was a closet show tune queen.

Between this and the opening to The Muppet Show it’s no wonder I became a theatresexual.

by Anonymousreply 21July 30, 2023 1:18 AM

Bugs and Daffy are now a couple of old theatre queens who reminisce about the old days doing vaudeville.

by Anonymousreply 22July 30, 2023 1:20 AM

Oh Brunhilda, you're so lovely

Yes I know it, I can't help it...
