Louis performed 3 songs at a festival in Birmingham (UK) last night. He did okay, although they had bulked up all the songs and his quite delicate voice was sometimes a little lost under the heavy bass and drums.
Harry had better come out dressed in something spectacular tomorrow night. Expectations are high.

There's actually a bit of evidence that Harry actually has a personal/financial interest in Full Stop Management coupled with the fact that Dan Wootton said in an article right at the start that Harry and Jeff Azoff were looking to go into management together so I wouldn't be too worried about what % the Azoff's are getting out of Harry. I'm also pretty sure HS2 is finished and I haven't seen any trace of Jeff Bhasker on this one. All the evidence is that he's been writing with Kid Harpoon, Tyler Johnson and Mitch Rowland again but no sign of Bhasker. I just hope that the writing is better on HS2. That was my biggest problem with HS1...some of the lyrics were so cringey they were laughable, as well as being repetitive and not really saying anything. For all H arry saying he was going to let the music speak for him what did the album actually tell us? I have to say I'm with others who think these songs were just a goup song writing effort to fit Jeff Bhasker's theme of 'women and relationships' and had little if anything to do with Harry at all.

Harry, not Bhasker, wanted the theme of 'women and relationships' and H also said that most of the album was about one particular woman. Cameron Crowe speculated in the Rolling Stone interview that the woman was Kendall Jenner and that part was left in, because it's true.
Harry wrote all the lyrics, which is why they're a bit cheesy and cliched and even misogynist, but they're about HIS experiences, nobody else's . The others were there to compose and produce the songs and suggest changes to H's lyrics so that the lines scanned better, but not to change the basic narrative.
Cue the Welp Troll squawking about Kendall being 'a lez', as he tends to.

He has had plenty of time. August-December 2018 and then Feb/March-now, even if he wasn't recording in Tokyo. He recorded HS1 between Feb-April and then October-December 2016 so he only needs six months.
Kid Harpoon and Mitch have both ig-ed from studios, but I'm sure others are on board.

R305 I think there is evidence he has been in the studio pretty much since he finished touring last year. Pretty sure he was in the Real World Studio in Bath UK as long ago as November of last year which is also when the Chalamet interview came out when he said he was working on his 2nd album. Think he has also been in the RAK studio London and there there have been sightings of him ( and a vid with Kid Harpoon) in the Jim Henson studio in LA. Given that Ki d Harpoon was with him in Tokyo after Christmas its also possible they were writing/working on the album there as well. What will be interesting is how many of his fans have stuck around given that ( if he releases as I think he will in Sept/Oct) there will have been a 2 1/2 year gap since the 1st album. Funny since his Sony boss said at the time that he thought Harry should be putting out an album every 6 months! No muscial appearances in that that time save for his duets with Stevie Nicks/no collabs/barely any social media content....just the Gucci contract. There have been hints about him being up for a couple of movie roles and not being picked so I wonder if he has tried for other filmroles since he's been off and just hasn't been successful.

Coming up to 4 years since the 'hiatus' was announced and I would say Zayn's music career is pretty much finished/ Liam doesn't seem to have any label backing to put an album out and has literally become a redcarpetter/luckily for Louis ,Cowell seems to have tken him under his wing so I think he will eventually get an album out this year ( which will flop)/ Niall has said he has new music coming out soon but its never going to set the world on fire is it /and Harry will put out his 2nd album but will he get his personality back. They could've all comfortably lived off of their 1d wealth for the rest of their lives but have all decided to try their luck as solo artists but its possible in another years time 3/5 if not 4/5 might be a distant memory.

Maybe they're afraid they'll be forgotten or simply don't know what else to do when they've spent so many of their formative years performing. I would say in lots of cases its just ego thinking they were always the best in the band or bigger than the band before finding out they weren't. Thats clearly not the case with Louis although he did say more recently 'I'm not here to compete with the likes of Drake and Arianna Grande. I'm here to make the music I love'....which is either 100% egotistical or realistic depending how you read it.

R304 Just a few quotes from Tyler Johnson on the song writing sessions: 'The first day was just myself and [fellow producer] Alex Salibian, who worked with me on the album underneath Jeff Bhasker. It was like a normal day for us -- show him some starts and musical ideas and write over them. I could tell he thought that we were really talented'........... 'Then we brought in our engineer at the time's bandmate [Mitch Rowland] -- who we'd seen live and knew played guitar and drums, and were really impressed by. And so I made a note to file it away, "Don't forget this kid." He plays a kind of '70s rock guitar really well, and plays drums phenomenally and writes songs. So I brought it up to Bhasker and Alex and he came in on the next day... and he sits down and Harry says, "Yes, great, start writing a song."'...........'We were able in the first few days to write a ton of songs and finish them, and every single song was a team effort.' Those songs were professionl song writing team efforts ( I think 6 of them) so I stand by the fact that regardless of what Harry's PR team wanted everyone to believe imo I don't believe they were all based on Harry's personal stories and I 100% don't believe that album was about Kendall Jenner , although thinking about it , it was boring enough to have been about Kendall.

If Harry's next album is a coming out album either in lyrics or in an interview I'm interested in how it will really affect his fanbase. I do think he is gay and I think any 'girlfriend ' since Flack was to hide it (but I'm also sure Louis is straight before anyone says anything about 'Larry'). His fanbase has got to be 90% female and there are some who think he's straight/bi & think they stand a chance, the Larrys ( there still seem to be alot left) who would disown him if he was openly in a relationship with another man, some who see him as a 'lesbian icon', some who say they are sure he's gay but also tweet about sexual fantasies with him. There might even be some who are fans simply beacause they like him and his music. and thats my point really Harry's fanbase seem to be more wrapped up in his sexuality/relationships than his music ( made worse by the fact that he gives so little content) and I'm sure upto this point in his solo career thats why he has bee so vague about everyhing, won't confirm/deny anything regarding sexuality and relationships. But if he were to come out how would it affect his fanbase? This came through very clearly to me after that interview with French TV, Quotidien, where he was asked about it and sneered at the interviewer after stating his album "wasn’t about a woman.” Get away from me. It was a way to engage 2 teams of fans and it was promoted endlessly, including on DL. Something fans were fed in official media that was promoted. Things like double sets of photos - one with Harry appearing to grope the dick of his bandmate and another photo run with that cropped out with 2 groups encouraged to use the manipulated images as proof. Our very own HS troll continues to promote the idea and the for/against dynamic here to this day. He also posts hundreds if not thousands of times here about Meghan Markle - do she and Harry share a PR agency?
Harry is kinda fug now and he has not really taken off outside the 1D audience. Go with what you know for PR, I suppose. Hopefully whatever product is coming will be better than the cringeworthy one that preceded it. Between that album and his outfit at the Met Ball, it is easy to see why peers see Z as cool and Harry as a try hard who misses the mark. The little girls will keep him rich, or have they moved on? There seems to be some sort of ongoing battleground here, between the poster known as Zarla on Twitter, Tumblr and UK Digital Spy, who lauds Harry Styles at every available opportunity and throws Louis and Niall under the bus (Louis being a 'rat' and Niall always being a 'lardarse') and who has some kind of obsession with Harry as well as a vendetta against the idiot Larries. To the point where anyone not worshipping Harry but yet pondering his sexuality is accused of being a Larrie.
Then there's some sort of Welp Troll character it itself has created to shift focus away from itself. I would urge everyone to block this person as they are just tiresome and a ridiculous fanboy. Yes it's a male apparently. Digital Spy is its usual stomping ground, where it routinely shits on anyone who is even marginally critical of Harry.
And criticism of Harry is valid. I agree and disagree with the Tumblr post above. IT's patently obvious Harry isn't straight. And he's done enough to prove that he's quite comfortable being seen as not straight. But we have the little problem of who he's repped by and his image control. What looks like 'gaybaiting' is, I think, an attempt to keep the door open for himself, but within a restricted image clause. That poster is correct that it seems frustrating and a form of bait but if he's gaybaiting he's been doing it for almost 10 years now. There's no need for that if you're truly a straight man.
I think it's a difficult path for Harry though. There are still plenty of Larries about who still believe he's the S/O of Louis, as they spend almost their entire lives apart and usually on different continents. The other day Harry happened to wear black Nike trackies when in London out for a jog. Louis showed up to Glastonbury with.... black Nike trackies on. Despite the world being full of black Nike trackies, the Larries were ecstatic. On the other hand it would give me some perverse pleasure if the Larries were actually correct and Larry was real. Just because I have a penchant for the underdog. But in reality, they probably went their separate ways a long time ago. I honestly don't think that Harry is gay. This boy has been in the limelight since the tender age of 16 (and he looked all of 12 years old back then), with no previous media training and if you watch his earliest interviews and such it's somewhat obvious, when he fancies a lady or tries to flirt/be saucy. When everyone on x factor congratulated the winner of the season, Harry can be seen whispering "think of how much pussy you're gonna get" - apparently pussy was the first and foremost thing in his teenage mind. He was also quite visibly smitten with Caroline Flack when she did an interview with the boys a year later - or he was a teenage acting sensation, that even back then manipulated the media with his extraordinary skills to stay in the closet. Considering that the whole thing was pretty much a PR disaster for Caroline Flack it's also doubtful that she would have agreed to bearding.
Therefore I'm pretty sure he likes women, which means he's either bisexual (maybe with a different main preference nowadays than back then) or just a straight oddball. Not sure what I deem more likely...

R337 Sounds like a potential disaster to me - the film as a whole (I mean, Baz Luhrmann is a bit hit or miss, isn't he?) and the role for the actor. Elvis is an icon, so there's like a 95 % chance the actor playing him will not meet the expectations of both critics and audience. It's extremely trick even for a trained and experienced actor, let alone for a guy who had a few lines in Dunkirk. If Harry gets the part and fucks this up, his acting stint is over and it might also negatively affect his music career. Extremely risky move, I don't really understand why.

R337 I don't know if the script has changed because I think this film has been in the works for a few years but I read that at some point there were going to be 2 Elvis' in the movie, one playing Elvis in his 20s and then one playing Elvis in his 30s. It could be that the Elvis in his 20s is a much smaller role because I too can't see how they have shortlisted Harry for such a major lead role when his only acting experience has been a few lines in Dunkirk. But its Baz Luhrmann so who knows. The eyeliner and floppy hair fan pics of Harry over the weekend also made me think straght away that that looks more like an Elvis audition than a Rolling Stone shoot when I saw the new about the role today. Maybe thats why Splash deleted their post saying it was for an RS shoot? In the meantime the furore about the Larry scene in Euphoria continues and Louis has tweeted to say that he was not consulted about it and didn't approve it. The problem is he replied to a tweet which suggested Harry might have known about it since he has recently followed Zendaya and Jeremy O Harris who was a consultant on the show and tweeted that the 1st 10 mins of Euphoria 'gives the LGBTQIA's a great gift with an assist from Harry THEE Styles'. Harry's rep has also refused to comment on whether he knew about it or approved it.

Apparently she was married and her husband went whining to the press that she cheated on him with Harry or something. Again, not what I'd consider the best of press, especially considering the "cute" and squeaky clean image the boygroup had back then.
But I mean, in the end I wasn't present in the bedroom with them, so I don't know what happened and didn't happen and maybe he developed a taste for men after he'd done all the cougars. Back to 1D. It's hard to adjust post-group and I take my hat off to all of those boys for at least trying to maintain their position in the industry. Some are better at it than others. Zayn's honey tones are the biggest threat to Harry, were Zayn a confident live performer and minus the demons that hold him back. He still has the standout voice of the group imo. Harry is the best showman though and I've never heard of anyone being disappointed by his live shows. He's very engaging with his audience onstage (if not so much via social media) so his core base will stay loyal for a good while.
Louis, ah, bless him. The world's best singer he ain't but he's a confident live performer, a talented writer and really a huge contributor to 1D's success in terms of the amount of material he churned out. R346, I don't know the outcome of what happened to his sister and I suspect we'll probably never know? That dickhead she was hanging out with at the time of her death then went on Instagram and carried on with self promotion to his fawning crop of 'fans' (who were probably mostly there because of her). Zayn is a good singer (although his voice is more on the tender than the powerful side) and has some interesting songs. And he is very pretty, I'm sure that helps a lot too. His biggest enemy is himself, he definitely got some issues and a mixture of insecurity and diva moments. We'll see how this pans out...
Personally I prefer Harry's voice though, it's very characteristic, the warm tone, the slight rasp, the power, I really like it. I come from a rock background though, in fact I only know Harry since he went solo as he suddenly made music I actually listen to. I only checked out One Direction (which I've kinda heard of before, but never realised they were so big and never heard their music) afterwards due to Harry's voice and was surprised to find the lads very personable. So adding to Harry's voice the fact that he's very charismatic, not too hard on the eyes either and seems to branch out (acting), I'd say he has - at the moment - the best chance to be and stay a star in his own right.
I think Niall has a good chance to continue in the music business as well, although on a smaller scope than Harry, which isn't necessarily bad. Smaller singer/songwriters with a core fanbase often have longer careers than big stars. His album is a in parts a bit too pop sounding for my tastes, I feel the folksy sound is better for his solo voice and fits better with his guitar playing and overall image. And I think it's way more sustainable than "just" pop.
I'm not sure about Louis. I don't think he can carry a solo career, but I can totally imagine him branching out into song writing and producing (with the occasional singing collab) or something like that. He seems to have been pretty active in the background during One Direction and he did fine as judge on X factor. I hope he can go that route, especially since life has already dealt him such tragedies. I'm sure we'll never find out what happened to his sister, but considering her age and dickhead boyfriend I'm positive it's drug related.
No idea what will or should happen with Liam tbh.

People say Louis is trying to model himself on Liam but I disagree, Louis has always been very northern and dour. He doesn't suffer fools but he's not erratic like Liam. I have a soft spot for Louis not just because of his staggeringly tragic luck in a short space of time but he's really been the Gary Barlow of 1D, the creative driving force that got overshadowed by the Greatest Showman (you know who). I do like the varied personalities of 1D and think they all have something to offer. The industry is big enough for them all to have a little niche though for longevity I can see Liam and Zayn perhaps dropping out at some point. I think Niall has staying power. He has solid writing skills, can hold an audience and has a loyal core fanbase. I sort of think Louis is wasted as a solo performer. I agree with others who think he'd make a better producer/composer.
Louis should try his hand at serious acting imo. I thought he was extremely sharp in 'Best Song Ever' video as the Hollywood mogul. Niall was good too.

Julian B also wrote Slow Hands for Niall. He was the real creative force behind the later 1d songs. Not Harry, not Louis, not Liam.

I agree with everyone who says that Louis would do better as a producer/songwriter. I like the production on some of his songs, but the vocals are not exactly my taste.
He's great on XF as a judge. Some judges are there to collect their paycheck and ignore the constestants, but Louis' boys say that Louis actually spend hours trying to actually help and train them. And his act actually won the show.
The odds are against him, but I do wish Louis will succeed. He's very proud of where he came from and do a lot of things for his community. He's very active on charity, doing lots of fundraisers and donating a LOT of money. He raised millions through charity matches, etc.
I remember that one time he personally donated 2 million pounds (over 3 million US dollars) into one charity alone (a charity for terminally ill children). Iirc, he raised even more through attendance, auctions, and stuffs. Kinda sad that the news are overshadowed by Tyga buying Kylie Jenner a car.

They would need Harry on board and he is having far too much fun touring as a soloist. I don't think Zayn will ever sing outside the studio again. It's been over four years since he gave a live performance.

But do they really need the money from a reunion tour? They're not exactly poor, I guess if they wanted to, each of them could get a nice house in the country and live there until the end of their days. But of course this is also about relevance, fame, recognition and having a place in the world of music.. I'm not sure just making lots of $$ on tours would help with that.
Apart from that I can't see Harry doing it within the next 3 years. A lot will probably depend on his second album, but I think he has all the potential to become a big star and recognised musician in his own right and the next few years are essential for that. I think he'd rather earn less alone as solo artist than earn more with One Direction right now. And without Harry they wouldn't really be One Direction, I think. Not even if Zayn would come aboard, which I find extremely doubtful. Not only due to Zayn's issues (anxiety, whatever drugs he's taking etc.), he was also so vocal in the past about hating being in One Direction, it would look a tad weird if he were willing to reunite now, especially if another member (Harry) doesn't come back.

Harry is a baby rockstar with Rob Sheffield and Rob Stringer, Sony CEO, in his pocket. He's earning £9m a year, more than he did with One Direction. Niall is also doing well, earning £4.5m a year. The other three are stuck on the £40m (£36m in Zayn's case) that they had when 1d split.
Still huge amounts of money but with diminishing returns for Zayn, Liam and Louis.

But I disagree with the notion that people are only taken seriously if they don't have any other writer/producers on board. There are plenty of other examples and I don't even want to start with iconic figures like Elvis or Sinatra, who didn't write a single song themselves. But let's just take Lana Del Rey for example, who has been around for a while by now, with a solid fanbase and rep in the music industry - she wrote so many of her best songs together with Rick Nowels and I doesn't seem to be a problem. Also we don't really know just how much of his first album was Harry's work and what were the contributions.
He might not be taken as seriously if he has a writing team, but I think in the end the sound is most important. I'd say it's better to have other writers on board and make good songs than having bad songs and be the sole composer. This is especially true for people buying the CD - most of the audience won't even look at the writing credits, but if it sounds shit, they won't buy.

R378 Well, they all invested in property, but considering that their property sales in LA aren't going that well, it might not have been such a great investment. Not sure about the others, but I think Harry has two houses in London and an apartment in New York (and still the LA house he's trying to sell, unless he sold it in the meantime). He also has some contemporary art and vintage cars, but I don't know if that's "Investment" seems more like personal indulgence to me.
Harry, Niall and Zayn also invested in 5 Seconds of Summer interestingly, so they earn(ed ?) money through them:

However it would be interesting how much of that incoming money they spend. I think the biggest problem for people, who once earned a shitload of money and enter times when there's less income, is adjusting to this accordingly. I guess you can get used to spending loads of money quite easily and all their adult lives they were used to a certain kind of lifestyle (private jets, designer clothes, personal trainers and assistants etc.). And of course there are also things that can be very expensive and not just luxury lifestyle, but quite necessary for them like security (because they'd still get mobbed by girls despite making less money now) and management and such.
We "normal" people sometimes tend to go on about how much crazy money these celebrities make, but it's easy to forget that they are also like small companies that give a lot of people jobs. So a good portion of this money goes towards writing paychecks. And of course taxes.

An addition about songwriting credits: I've read that the difference in royalties for One Direction songs is up to 9 percent depending if you're credited as songwriter or not. Since Louis and Liam are way more often credited than the other ones, they must earn the most from One Direction royalties.
Considering this also puts some perspective on how much money Harry made with his first solo album: the production was quite expensive, I'm sure (top tier studios, the documentary, paying the band and songwriter/producer team etc.) and royalties of every song have to be shared. I'm sure Harry's still not in any danger of poverty ;), but it's something to consider. I also wonder if and what he gets paid by Gucci not only for appearing in their campaigns and events, but also when he wears Gucci suits on stage and such. He's basically a 24/7 advert for them, when he runs around in their stuff.

Yeah, I'm sure Harry is quite fine financially, but it's still interesting to think about the expenses the all must have, which sometimes get underestimated I think. I read somewhere, that the actual profit of touring (at least in the way 1D toured) is about 10 % of revenue.
Anyway, I totally think that Harry will make his way. Of course it depends on the quality of his second album, but I don't think it will be a total disaster. My biggest fear regarding his career is actually his vocal technique. I'm no expert, but I've read several times that the way he sings is rather damaging for his vocal chords and he will get problems sooner or later (or maybe lose his voice completely). It is true that he was put on vocal rest quite a bit during One Direction and used inhalers and such. If his way of singing is actually damaging that would be a disaster. Makes me want to fly to London like a completely deranged person and scream at him to get a proper vocal coach.
So yes, vocal problems and drugs are probably the biggest threats to young singers like Harry or Zayn. I hope they can both sort this out. Losing Zayn to his demons would be such a damn waste... (Harry seems to be comparatively drug problem free, but who knows... I'm sure all the boys have some experience, their 1D touring days were crazy).

Zayn will be 27 next January, and he's not in a great place with his career stalled and his relationship with Gigi over. I really hope he takes care and knows his limits, or he'll be joining Kurt and Amy before 2020 is over.
10% of revenue could be correct, R389. Harry's tour grossed 68m but his wealth only increased by 8m last year. Still nothing to sniff at, and more than he made per year in 1d.

I think his short hair looked great during the time of the Dunkirk premiere, but when it gets slightly longer it looks weird (like his 2013 One Direction hair).
And I actually liked his proper long hair tbh. Not many men can wear it, but for some reason it looked sexy on him to me. Maybe because his face is usually so boyish, the long hair gives him a bit of a rock edge.
