After all these years and years of speculation and indirect evidence, this. Here again is my theory and it will bore you:

As did I 20 years earlier, Aaron grew up in the Bible Belt part of Northern California and then went to UC Berkeley. His family are rigid, fundamentalist, conformist "Christians" and that was his mentality. and his identity. Although he was at Cal on a football scholarship, he was exposed to new ways of thinking. Nevertheless, he was laser-focused on sportsball. He has stated all of this. In fact, I think his roomate was the guy from Redding (Bakersfield, but prettier, with mountains) who came out after playing with the KC Chiefs and after suicide attempts.

I went to all-boys Catholic schools. Never saw a girl. Because my army of older brothers couldn't stop getting girls "in trouble", my parents were obsessed that I, the innocent "smart one", should never see a vag,. That worked out very well for me. There would be "sleep-overs" with boys (mostly Aidrian) until I was 24.

Meanwhile, some of the uber-jocks from public high schools and some of the Catholic school boys were either totally naive, were sexually underdevelopped, or just didn't care. Or they were gay, but didn't know it. Maybe some did. Girls were girly. Which was Gay. So you didn't associate with them. And you didn't want to be Gay, right? Not that any of us really knew what that meant.

When Aaron was with Kevin "bubblebutt" Flansisi(or whatever), I don't think they even knew that they were lovers. They were sexually immature besties. And still both fundamentalist Xtians. But Aaron's career grew and people got suspicious. If you read about Kevin's bitterness over the breakup, and in ensuing years what Aaron has said about his evolving spirituality and division with his family when he hooked up with Olivia, the plot thickens. He ends up with strong, assertive women (Olivia and Danica) who are basically surrogate fag hags, who served as unintended beards.

Olivia saw a goldmine of publicity and a nice guy in Aaron. Don't think she was savy/smart enough to know that he is gay. Don't think he knew, either. Celebrity careers earn millions. There are fans and other people you need to please.

His relationship with butch Danica was either a mutually continued last attempt at heteronormative sexuality (whatever TF that is) or intentional bearding.

COVID-19 has ended football at a time when Aaron is ready to retire, anyway. Look for a major book deal. It will be part self-journey and part juicy tell-all.
