Anyone else a fan of the program or the guy?

Too skinny, but definite bdf.

He's very photogenic. I also like how simply he explains things.

The program or the guy R3? LOL

R4 Marketplace is a finance focused news and program on NPR. Kai is the host

by Anonymousreply 5January 8, 2018 3:19 PM

Thanks, R5. Why isn't he on TV?

by Anonymousreply 6January 8, 2018 3:35 PM

Thanks, R7. I just listened to him. He doesn't do for me what he does for you.

I despise Kai Ryssdal with the heat of a thousand suns. His awful rat-a-tat delivery, the often over-used "I'm shocked, shocked I say!" tone of voice when introducing segments or during an interview, the "I'm already bored with this subject" dismissiveness of different topics. He sounds like an insurance salesman at a convention, away from the fat-frau at home, sitting at the bar trying to pick up some babe he's just met... "hey, baby, can I buy you a mohito?" quality. Coming in a close second these days is Steve Inskeep during Morning Edition (he makes me want to gag on a daily basis).

by Anonymousreply 9January 8, 2018 4:38 PM

He's also a little too Ayn Randian for my taste. Their finance/economic coverage tends to be too one-sided.

by Anonymousreply 10January 8, 2018 5:15 PM

Really R10? I find him relatively liberal. Usually points out stimulative effects of social programs. Also has on diverse guests.

by Anonymousreply 11January 8, 2018 5:20 PM

I listen when I'm in the car. I like the show.

by Anonymousreply 12January 8, 2018 5:24 PM

He has huge big dick voice.

by Anonymousreply 13January 8, 2018 5:44 PM

Ryssdal is definitely a piece of furniture sold at Ikea.

by Anonymousreply 15January 8, 2018 6:06 PM

R15 sounds more accurate than anything else in this thread.

by Anonymousreply 16January 8, 2018 6:07 PM

He sounds like a Dartmouth frat boy and his show gets money from the Koch brothers, but the show was very thorough about explaining the deleterious effects of this tax bill and previous ones, like that of George Dubya What's His Last Name Again.

by Anonymousreply 18January 8, 2018 6:14 PM

[quote]I despise Kai Ryssdal with the heat of a thousand suns.

He would never use such a tedious, overused expression.

KAI: 1 YOU: 0

by Anonymousreply 19January 8, 2018 6:20 PM

It's one of the better NPR shows. Some of the segments lean liberal and some conservative. It seems that the focus is on delivering quality news and interesting takes on the marketplace news of the day. A few of their younger contributors seem a bit full of themselves but most are professional in their approach. Kai himself occasionally strikes me as a bit slick but then he does a great interview and I forgive.

by Anonymousreply 21January 8, 2018 6:34 PM

He's a great interview. His interview with Obama is maybe my favorite interview of either of theirs.

Anyone remember that trainwreck Ben Carson interview?

That gigantic Frankenstein is not cute and definitely not photogenic.

by Anonymousreply 23January 8, 2018 6:49 PM

The show is very vanilla and non controversial.

I didn’t know it takes money from the Koch’s. Damn if they don’t have their tentacles in everything.

They give money to my alma mater and when they ask me for money, I tell them that I’m disgusted that they would take their blood money and tell them to go ask the Kochs if they need more.

They don’t call me anymore lol.

by Anonymousreply 25January 8, 2018 7:28 PM

The Koch's have their fingers in everything R25, including Paul Ryan and Tom Cotton

by Anonymousreply 26January 8, 2018 7:28 PM

I’m partial to NPR but I can’t make it through Marketplace. I find Kai Ryssdal overly smarmy and not nearly as clever as he sees himself.

by Anonymousreply 27January 8, 2018 10:05 PM

I don't care about business news, but listen to it if I'm in the car because it comes on before Fresh Air.

by Anonymousreply 28January 8, 2018 10:07 PM

“let’s do the numbers”

by Anonymousreply 29January 8, 2018 10:14 PM

Meh. Smarmy is the right word to describe him.

by Anonymousreply 31January 8, 2018 10:16 PM

I feel like confidence is attractive, on him and most people

by Anonymousreply 32January 8, 2018 11:40 PM

Marketplace is not an NPR show.

by Anonymousreply 33January 9, 2018 1:04 AM

"Ever'bod'"! (translation: Everybody)

by Anonymousreply 34January 9, 2018 3:25 AM

He's like 6'5. I'd climb him for sure

by Anonymousreply 35January 9, 2018 3:30 AM

He's straight, married and boring. Next.

by Anonymousreply 36July 1, 2018 1:44 PM

I think he's handsome. And he's SUPER tall. And smart

by Anonymousreply 37July 2, 2018 12:50 AM

One of the most off putting vocal affects ever heard.
