He's like Roseanne, I suspect, which may be why he wrote for her reboot show. He's not an Obama fan, and slightly prefers, according to his tweets, Hillary Clinton to Donald Trump.

I wish he weren't so vocal about his politics and homophobia. He reads a lot of drama and comedy, like Shakespeare and Ionesco, and I find that with the scathing wit sexy.

Several years ago on Twitter he went on a days-long rampage about how it was wrong for people to say Liberace was gay, because Liberace never admitted it AND won his lawsuit against a tabloid that claimed he was gay.

A lot of people thought Norm was trying to make some kind of statement about fame, being closeted, etc. but after a few days it became clear he meant it: he liked Liberace, didn't like gays, and wanted the public to stop calling Liberace gay because it upset him. He eventually said people were "smearing" Liberace (and Burt Reynolds!) as gay for "political reasons."

Any respect I had for him evaporated after that.

A few tweets were saved here, but when the whole thing blew up (things didn't blow up immediately on Twitter back then) Norm deleted everything. He deleted a LOT from his Twitter, nearly daily.

Norm MacDonald claims he's never been a conservative but he also can't vote because he's Canadian, so he can pretty much say anything and have it be technically true.

But he also has said that HRC was a bad person to use the term "deplorable," that she "called half the country racist," was "coronated" by the DNC, was "stupid," etc. He continued that Trump was denied "victories" by the press so people naturally felt sorry for him because he was a victim, that he can't really start a war on his own so he's not dangerous or anything, that Trump will become "beloved" because he's just a guy who wants to be loved.

Norm MacDonald fakes being drunk so he can grope women, by his own admission. He got mad at a gay comedian making fun of the Bible and complains constantly about atheists being boring and smug.

And in this interview from 2015 he talks about how much he hates Trump for being racist and fascist, but in 2016 (linked above) suddenly he's very positive about Trump and Trump's supporters.

Here's Norm saying women aren't good at comedy (which he's said repeatedly over the years), that protests are bad, that Charles Manson is funny, Nazis are interesting, alt-right talking heads like Tucker and Limbaugh are just fun, harmless entertainers chuckling to themselves, but Kathy Griffin's stunt with the Trump mask was grotesque and terrible and the exact same ethical/moral malfeasance as Anthony Weiner fucking teenaged girls.

Oh, and Trump isn't a fascist and this isn't a coup, it's actually the LIBERALS who are trying to pull off a coup by wanting to impeach Trump for no reason at all.

I don't remember anything about anal rape jokes.

I knew Norm fairly well when he was on SNL, and I really liked him And he is NOTHING like Chevy Chase. He couldn't be less like him if he tried. One thing is that he is smart af, and he has broad knowledge about so many different things it's ridiculous.

Look, nobody's perfect, and if you could show some verification about the anal rape stuff will apologize for doubting you. He was never going for the easy homophobic joke back in the frat boy days of Farley, Spade and Sandler--and back then that was constantly done.

I definitely remember the anal rape prison jokes. It was kind of one of his running things like Germans love David Hasselhoff. But I didn’t take them as homophobic per se. I’m gay but would fear anal rape in prison. I’m sure there was a gay panic element underlying the jokes but it was the 90s and that was still common unfortunately.

Dennis Miller joked on Fox News that gay men probably would enjoy prison because of the forced gay sex. I find that much more offensive than MacDonald’s jokes.

I guess there's someone for everyone. I've never found Norm remotely attractive, but he definitely struck his own path in comedy. He's also one of the most reliably funny, oddball talk show guests. You can easily find dozens of his (mostly Conan and Letterman) appearances on YT in which you can tell the hosts are so happy to have such a funny guest on.

I liked his dry humor but he really seems to have some personal issues. I think he is smarter and wittier than Letterman but his offbeat approach has gotten in the way and that’s why he never achieved widespread success. I don’t nesscesarily think he his homophobic or stereotypically right wing. He kind of plays a character but has an expansive, unexpected way of thinking about things behind that character which I like. He is certainly more intelligent than Sandler, etc.
