Not me but a friend returning from Europe was diverted to Newark. It is apparently a huge mess.

It's not just Newark.
The three airports are a mess because of the torrential rain bursts.

It hasn't even been that bad here r4, and Newark is by far the most effected. There really is no excuse what what a shit show they are putting travelers through.
[Quote]Officials warn this could only be the beginning, as they predict more will come in the next few days.
And they are nowhere close to fixing things and getting back on track.

There were significant thunderstorms passing through in multiple bands of cloud formations on the east coast late Monday and through Tuesday morning. If the plane took the risk and flew through that and there was a crash they would have been at fault. Bad weather sucks but it's reality.

R6 - I was in Morris County yesterday and the rain at times was so bad, there was flash flooding and some roads were unpassable.
At the same time, there were parts of the state that just got normal rain.
It all depended on where you were.
As R7 said, you don't want planes potentially flying through that.

The Doppler radar of the storm clouds kept changing , so they were not following any predictable paths. I am in Brooklyn and I was worried about torrential downpours causing flooding in my basement because of what the radar was forecasting, but while we did get a bit of heavy rain, it was nothing compared to what the areas just west of NYC got.
