I like Neil, but he is not a rock god, nor is this the greatest rock performance ever.
(it is a fun song, though)

Rock God! Better then Freddie at Live Aid. Better then Robert Plant or Mick! R1 is stone cold wrong.

I love this song. It came out when I was in high school. But I didn't realize until years later that Elton John was also singing along with Neil Sedaka. It was just advertised as "Neil Sedaka" when it came out.
Other musicians included David Foster, Lee Sklar on bass, Nigel Olsson on drums.

Neil Sedaka was always one of those people whose success I rooted for, even though I never actually went out and bought any of his music. There's just something about his vibe that resonates with me. And this is a funky little track. Neil could get pretty funky for a Jewish kid from Brighton Beach. I'm talking musically, not the dance moves...although he was doing that "sassy black girl neck roll" years before it became a thing.
He's been broadcasting mini-concerts from his house while under lockdown, and you can tell how much he loves music and performing. His voice is still decent, better on some days than others. I believe he's 81 years old now. A couple of weeks ago he sang "My Yiddishe Mama" and at the end he started to sob a little, which made me start sobbing.

The video in the OP is the studio recording of the song, synced with a live performance. You're not hearing the actual live performance.
Much in the same way that the video below is just the studio recording, synced with the video of a live performance from "The Midnight Special." (By the way, the performance on "The Midnight Special" was better than the studio recording.)

I saw Neil and Suzanne Somers on the Mike Douglas Show and they were getting on famously. I thought a) he's gay and b) she's a fag hag.

Neil Sedaka: the 1960's version of Sean Mendez.

I always get him and Jim Neighbors mixed up.

As a kid in the 70s with my sister babysitting me, I queened out over this song when it came on the radio.
I miss those days.

I'm sure Jim Nabors would be confused as well.

It’s a great song. The vocals and the flute.

Neil Sedaka is like a grandmother's idea of rock and roll.

the best of Neil holds up 50 years later. He needs another comeback before covid shuts the planet down.

I didn't realize he wrote so many hits for other artists. Love Will Keep Us Together and Lonely Nights for Captain and Tennille, Where The Boys Are for Connie Francis, Solitaire for the Carpenters, etc.
| by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 25, 2021 3:25 AM |
Solitaire was a great song.

You have to admire him for resurrecting a faded career and making a fortune touring off a few songs.

He also wrote Stupid Cupid and Fallin' for Connie. Stupid Cupid was his first hit. Fallin' is a great song. Connie's friend, Don Kirschner, introduced Neil and Howie Greenfield to Connie.

I will ALWAYS, ALWAYS love him for writing this song.
if you've never watched this clip, btw, you've really missed something. Just when you think you've seen an outfit that couldn't be more Seventies, another even weirder one pops up...

Sedaka was horrible in his comeback era. Bad Blood an example.
| by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 25, 2021 4:49 AM |
I liked his bluesy, slowed-down second version of “Breaking up is Hard to Do”.
