Names Muppets ruined

Writer Christopher Lucas

Burt - spelled with an "U" (yes it's "an") is popular

Burt Reynolds saved that.

There are still a lot of African Americans named Elmo, even young ones.

Roosevelt Franklin grew up to be Barack Obama

We just baptized my great nephew Jayden Snuffleupagus. I think it is coming back.

by Anonymousreply 7March 5, 2020 4:32 AM

Jayden?

Hell, you might as well have called him Bert.

by Anonymousreply 8March 5, 2020 4:34 AM
Bert

And by extension Christopher Meloni.

Big Bird. You hardly ever hear it used any more.

by Anonymousreply 11March 5, 2020 4:42 AM

r6

Actually his name is Aloysius. He is A snuffleupagus.

That would be like me calling Hillary Clinton, human.

Big Bird being a tool, called him Mr snuffleupagus

by Anonymousreply 12March 5, 2020 4:48 AM

Prairie Dawn, honey, what’s that flower you got on? Could it be a faded rose from days gone by?

by Anonymousreply 14March 5, 2020 5:11 AM

Dayam, I never knew Janice in the band got her name from Janice Joplin, they were nothing a like?

by Anonymousreply 16March 5, 2020 5:15 AM

Janice's personality is more like Carly Simon than Janis Joplin.

by Anonymousreply 17March 5, 2020 5:18 AM

My dentist is named Dr. Teeth.

by Anonymousreply 18March 5, 2020 5:18 AM

Miss Piggy. He was a Leather daddy bareback fisting cum dumpster before that bitch stole his name.

by Anonymousreply 20March 5, 2020 5:38 AM

Did you know that Mr Hooper was supposed to be a parody of Don Loper, but he got pissed and threatened legal action.

So they changed this name to Hooper and had Big Bird do malapropisms of Looper as a legal dig.

Fortunately Benet Cert and Arlene Francis got the humor and were honored, not ashamed

by Anonymousreply 21March 5, 2020 6:51 AM

I think Janice's name was taken after Janis Joplin, but her personality was modelled after joni Mitchell.

by Anonymousreply 22March 5, 2020 12:49 PM
[Benet Cert

He's two, two, two men in one.

I have a friend named Kermit. He was in grade school when Sesame Street started and he took endless shit for his name. When he entered high school, he adopted his middle name as his first. He now uses K. David (last name) as his professional name. He's a CPA and when asked what the K stands for, he lies and responds "Kevin" - he just doesn't want to get into it. BUT his partner calls him Kermit and Froggy when they're in bed and he loves it!!

by Anonymousreply 25March 5, 2020 7:52 PM

R21 Who is/was Don Loper?

by Anonymousreply 26March 5, 2020 7:54 PM

^^R25 He uses the name K. David (and his last name) as his professional name.

by Anonymousreply 27March 5, 2020 8:08 PM

Animal.

Another one going by the wayside.

by Anonymousreply 29March 5, 2020 8:38 PM

Actually R12, bite me.

From Wiki: Aloysius Snuffleupagus (/ˌsnʌfəlˈʌpəɡəs/), more commonly known as Mr. Snuffleupagus, Snuffleupagus or Snuffy for short, is one of the characters on Sesame Street, an educational television program for young children.

You never meet Skeeters anymore. Remember Skeeter, the Muppet who never became a puppet?

Poor thing.

Thoughts and prayers.

by Anonymousreply 32March 5, 2020 9:40 PM

R30 Snuffy, oh dear! That sounds like a film little boys and girls shouldn’t know about.

by Anonymousreply 33March 5, 2020 10:36 PM

He IS a Snuffleupagus, that isn't his name

It would be like a little kid calling a postman, "Mr Mailman."

Same way Oscar IS A GROUCH, he's not a monster

by Anonymousreply 34March 5, 2020 11:04 PM
Who is/was Don Loper?

You don't deserve to be gay or to be on this site

by Anonymousreply 35March 5, 2020 11:05 PM

R35 Well, that was helpful. Thanks for sharing.

by Anonymousreply 36March 5, 2020 11:08 PM

This went some ways to redeem some of these names, and not so others. Poor hooker Prairie Dawn! Apparently this was an original idea from Harbor and a friend.
He IS a Snuffleupagus, that isn't his name.

Yes, it is. It is both.
It would be like a little kid calling a postman, "Mr Mailman."

Well, what would you have a five year old call the mailman, by his first name?
Same way Oscar IS A GROUCH, he's not a monster.

Same way you're a RETARD, not an intellect.

by Anonymousreply 39March 5, 2020 11:31 PM

R39 / R34 Please keep it up! I'm enjoying the dialogue!

by Anonymousreply 40March 5, 2020 11:33 PM

R39 obviously learned nothing from [italic]Sesame Street[/italic] about the virtue of kindness to others.

He was to me!!

I said “tickle me” goddammit, not touch me!

by Anonymousreply 43March 5, 2020 11:46 PM

R43 I just did a spit take!

by Anonymousreply 44March 5, 2020 11:49 PM
[R39] obviously learned nothing from Sesame Street about the virtue of kindness to others.

And R41 needs to go back outside and read the fucking sign over the door.

Please. (there's your fucking kindness.)
