My neighbor stole my amazon package.

Writer John Thompson

So I order regularly from Amazon Prime. I had ordered some new hair clippers, zero-gap, they were a little more expensive than normal (75 bucks nothing scary). Amazon shows it delivered so I open my door and nothing. I check the Amazon page and there is a picture of the door, my package etc...except it is not my door. It is one of my neighbors. (it could be one of two because all could see was the stairs and handrail and only two of my neighbors have that).

So I asked my first neighbor did you get a package of mine by mistake...nope. Second neighbor same question, same response. Truthfully it could have been stolen off their porch but that has never happened to me ( and I have gone on vacation and had a package sit for 4 days). So I am pretty sure one of my two neighbors is lying and stole my shit. Amazon told me to let them know if whoever has it does not surrender it and they will refund my money but I want my damn clippers lol...and my trust back that my neighbors are not thiefs!

by Anonymousreply 84January 10, 2020 1:48 AM

It should be fairly easy to get Amazon to send replacements especially if you have never contacted them before.

by Anonymousreply 1January 8, 2020 6:21 PM

Keep on eye on both neighbours OP. Whoever leaves the house with a fabulous do, you have the your thief!

by Anonymousreply 2January 8, 2020 6:22 PM

R1 has no reading comprehension

by Anonymousreply 4January 8, 2020 6:22 PM

Have it sent to an Amazon locker. Case closed.

by Anonymousreply 5January 8, 2020 6:24 PM

My sister stole my goddamn house.

by Anonymousreply 6January 8, 2020 6:24 PM

r5 I would but the closest locker is like 20 mins away. Bleck. It was not an issue of it being stolen off my porch - that has never happened. Amazon delivered to the wrong address and the person thought GOODIE FREE STUFF and lied to my face about it. It's too bad I have to move now.

by Anonymousreply 7January 8, 2020 6:46 PM

OP there could be another explanation. Did you see this from late last year?

by Anonymousreply 8January 8, 2020 6:48 PM

HUh no that could be it too.. I will just have to see if one my neighbors suddenly has a fade.

by Anonymousreply 9January 8, 2020 6:57 PM

Can you break in their house? I would.

by Anonymousreply 10January 8, 2020 7:01 PM

Why do people always start sentences with "So...?"

by Anonymousreply 11January 8, 2020 7:01 PM

Get a "Ring" doorbell for future problems?

by Anonymousreply 13January 8, 2020 7:03 PM

Hey fuck you r11. Fuck you in your dirty butt hole and you mother and your cat too.

by Anonymousreply 14January 8, 2020 7:06 PM

This has happened to me before; they send a pic of the delivered package and it's on someone else's doormat.

I'm in Texas and a lot of my neighbors are gun nuts. Well, the two houses nearest to mine are anyway, I shouldn't speak for the rest. I'm not going over to other peoples' houses to ask around, as Amazon phone reps suggests.

Next time, stand your ground, (no gun pun intended) and tell them you're not friendly with your neighbors and you're not comfortable CONFRONTING them (because that's what it is). If you get a difficult rep on the phone, hang up and go use the Amazon's CS chat. Or vice versa.

I ordered a bottle of Nordic Naturals DHA a couple months ago; it was $30. They sent a bottle of Nordic Naturals Omegas +D instead. I called and politely explained the situation to the CSR and she was like "you have to return it before we send the correct item." I argued with her a little but that I didn't have the time and it wasn't MY fault but she held firm. She thought it was funny, too. This call was during daytime hours, so the CSR was in the US, before the racists get fired up.

I hung up and the more I thought about it, the more pissed I got. I have been an Amazon Prime member pretty much since year 1. I opened a chat with Amazon on my phone and within 30 seconds a different CSR had apologized profusely and sent out another bottle immediately. I didn't have to make a special trip to return the wrong stuff which was their fault.

Similar situations have happened where they sent it to the wrong house. You may have to try a couple different CSRs. Apparently it's up to them.

by Anonymousreply 15January 8, 2020 7:13 PM

r15 yeah I got delivery - they apologized and told me to wait a day and then they would refund if I did not get the item. How about just ship out a new one, that is all I want. Sorry your delivery people can't read numbers.

by Anonymousreply 16January 8, 2020 7:25 PM

Hey, hey now, R14--leave me out of this; R11 corrects me constantly, too.

Soooo...your beef ain't with me.

by Anonymousreply 17January 8, 2020 7:34 PM

Amazon's in-house couriers are shady as fuck, with shit attitudes to boot. They're the Lyft drivers of couriers.

by Anonymousreply 18January 8, 2020 7:36 PM

Get yourself a PO Box at the local post office. If the seller won't accept a PO Box as a shipping address, send the package to yourself at the street address of the post office, then show the box number, town state and zip.

by Anonymousreply 19January 8, 2020 7:45 PM

Is this USPS? You can instruct USPS to not leave items in an unsecured location. They (the mail carrier) will leave a notice (in your mailbox) for you to pick up the parcel at a nearby Post Office.

by Anonymousreply 20January 8, 2020 7:59 PM

Offer to suck both their dicks and whomever has the cleanest public region is your culprit.

by Anonymousreply 21January 8, 2020 8:00 PM

[quote] Truthfully it could have been stolen off their porch but that has never happened to me

Wow in OP's world if nothing has ever happened before, it can't happen now for the first time.

by Anonymousreply 22January 8, 2020 8:15 PM

R19 Amazon ships primarily with UPS, which doesn’t deliver to post office boxes at USPS.

by Anonymousreply 24January 8, 2020 8:17 PM

[quote]Amazon ships primarily with UPS

Where I live, they use their own delivery service 90% of the time, and it is AWFUL.

by Anonymousreply 25January 8, 2020 8:18 PM

If it's UPS, then you might be able to use the tracking # to redirect delivery, i.e., to a UPS store.

by Anonymousreply 26January 8, 2020 8:19 PM

Is a photo taken of every delivery?

by Anonymousreply 27January 8, 2020 8:21 PM

[quote]and my trust back that my neighbors are not thiefs

Amazon also sells basic English grammar books.

by Anonymousreply 28January 8, 2020 8:26 PM

All this trouble because Jeff Bezos just doesn't have enough money.

by Anonymousreply 29January 8, 2020 8:30 PM

Have the package delivered to your work.

by Anonymousreply 30January 8, 2020 8:37 PM

Delivered to the wrong house, its their fault...did you call Amazon and bitch??

by Anonymousreply 31January 8, 2020 8:47 PM

UPS does deliver to Post Office boxes now.

by Anonymousreply 32January 8, 2020 8:57 PM

R24 Read my post carefully. UPS, FedEx, and DHL all regularly deliver to my PO Box. Rent a PO Box, note the street address of the post office, i.e., 1234 Main St., Anytown, US. Then, use as a shipping address: Your Name, 1234 Main St., #123 (Your Box Number), Anytown, US. Amazon, Ebay, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, and other retailers have regularly been shipping to my PO Box for at least the past fifteen years. Stops a lot of theft. A box of cookies at Christmas, the the PO staff are more than glad to help you. In addition, both UPS and FedEx have joint services with USPS where they will deliver directly to a PO Box with only a PO Box address.

by Anonymousreply 33January 8, 2020 9:09 PM

I have anything over $50 sent to my PO Box.

by Anonymousreply 34January 8, 2020 9:17 PM

[quote] Why do people always start sentences with "So...?"

To alert the discerning that paying attention to what follows will only lead to remorse.

by Anonymousreply 35January 8, 2020 9:19 PM

R35 and I just got engaged, bitches!

by Anonymousreply 36January 8, 2020 10:01 PM

OP, you give your ole Uncle Vinny a call.

We’ll take care of dat ding. No progums. Nice and clean.

by Anonymousreply 37January 8, 2020 10:02 PM

I accidentally had a package sent to my old address in another state. The new residents were willing to return it, but Amazon said they could keep it and sent me another one. No problem at all.

by Anonymousreply 38January 8, 2020 10:53 PM

Public civility has disappeared. People steal stuff off the community clothes line behind my building. I mean really. Someone's clean laundry - which means used clothes and household linens, etc. The mind boggles.

by Anonymousreply 39January 8, 2020 10:59 PM

OP, just out out of curiosity, was it Lasership that delivered? I fucking hate them.

by Anonymousreply 40January 9, 2020 12:44 AM

R39 Do you have many naked time travelers that pass through?

by Anonymousreply 41January 9, 2020 12:56 AM

COMMUNITY clothesline???? Good God, I thought personal clothesline were bad enough. I need smelling salts!

by Anonymousreply 42January 9, 2020 12:59 AM

Well bless my little fat fingers and urgency of attempted wit.

by Anonymousreply 43January 9, 2020 1:07 AM

I always wondered about those community gardens as well. Do people steal each others produce (tomatoes, etc.) that they grow on their assigned plots? Probably, yes. People are shitty.

by Anonymousreply 44January 9, 2020 1:20 AM

Yes, r44, they do, I can say from experience. They cheerfully help themselves to all those luscious fruits and vegetables you’ve lovingly raised. I always suspected the lazy folks who neglected their own patches.

by Anonymousreply 45January 9, 2020 2:19 AM

What is this about taking a picture of the delivery? I've never once gotten a picture. Is this practice fairly new, is it only for private houses? Is it because I live in an apartment building? Is it because I live in a big city (Bklyn) and the delivery men don't have time to snap pics a 100 times a day. 99% of the time, when Amazon delivers in my apartment building, they just leave the box outside the purchasers apt. door. I'm curious how this works - where do they send the picture to - the email address that you have that you opened the account with? Do you give your cell number and they send an alert/pic to your phone?

by Anonymousreply 46January 9, 2020 2:36 AM

R46, I also live in Bklyn and I've seen them do it, I think only Lasership does it, not the bigger names. I have cameras so I've seen them put down the pkg, take a picture and leave. What pisses me off is they don't ring the doorbell, so I know they've left it.

by Anonymousreply 47January 9, 2020 2:41 AM

Amazon takes a picture of my packages most of the time, I live in a private home. It's helpful because sometimes they just leave it in front of my garage and don't walk up the steps to my front door, when I wonder why it's not delivered the pic shows it in my driveway so I know to run out and grab it.

by Anonymousreply 48January 9, 2020 2:43 AM

[quote] I would but the closest locker is like 20 mins away.

What back country holler would be 20 minutes away from an Amazon locker?

by Anonymousreply 49January 9, 2020 3:45 AM

Smell the FOMO HOMO at R46!

Living in a big city that he's too busy to spell,. with delivery drivers too busy to take two seconds to snap a confirmation photo!

How very dare someone else have an experience that someone living in squalid NYC didn't have first!

by Anonymousreply 50January 9, 2020 4:08 AM

"I wonder why it's not delivered the pic shows it in my driveway so I know to run out and grab it."

So you were home and they didn't bother ringing the bell and deliver it in person?

by Anonymousreply 52January 9, 2020 5:01 AM

You begin your sentences with "so." You don't deserve any packages! I am sure your neighbor knows that. I hope he enjoys your fabulous package!

by Anonymousreply 53January 9, 2020 10:55 AM

[quote]I opened a chat with Amazon on my phone and within 30 seconds a different CSR had apologized profusely and sent out another bottle immediately.

Personally, I always have an easier time getting what I want to rectify a problem by chatting with them versus on the phone.

I've told them "this isn't my doorstep" on the phone and they've argued with me. I've said it on chat and they've sent a replacement immediately.

[quote]Amazon takes a picture of my packages most of the time, I live in a private home.

They use whatever carrier they damn well please which can be annoying. Some couriers take pictures, some don't. The Amazon drivers here always take pictures. I've seen a few UPS drivers do the same.

However, you can chat with them and tell them what your "preference" is and they'll "try" and honor it.

For instance: UPS here is a joke and I explained that to them. They set it up as a preference that I'd prefer other couriers to UPS. I get less packages delivered that way now. A friend in a different state did the same thing but with their Amazon drivers, unless she uses same day she always gets packages via UPS now.

[quote]So you were home and they didn't bother ringing the bell and deliver it in person?

Out of the last 20 orders I have placed I have had a driver do this once. It's also rare that they ever bother to hide packages. Most of them simply want to get done with their route and do not care.

by Anonymousreply 54January 9, 2020 11:09 AM

So...is beginning sentences with "So..." a New York / New Jersey thing? A holdover translation from something in Yiddish? I ask because it doesn't seem strange to me at all, or offensive. I grew up in North Jersey, I'm one of the dearest of the Oh, Dears, and Datalounge is the only place I've ever heard cunts cunt about it.

So...where does it come from, already?

by Anonymousreply 55January 9, 2020 11:10 AM

I find that Amazon drivers are more likely to steal packages than neighbors or strangers.

by Anonymousreply 56January 9, 2020 11:13 AM

Several months ago our USPS delivery guy asked me if I stole my neighbor's Amazon package. I wasn't real happy about that, in part because he's been our USPS guy for 15 years and you'd think he would know by now if we were raging thieves. It turned out he had gotten into trouble because he scanned their package on our doorstep and apparently the USPS scanning system knows which house it was scanned at, so he was trying to pass the blame and say we were at fault for keeping it.

Except we didn't, so that's when I realized someone around here has been stealing packages. I now make sure to get an email from Amazon as soon as a package is delivered, and I have a notification go off on my phone so I can go right to the front door and get it.

That only works because I work at home though. If you're gone during the day, your best bet is a locker or PO box as others suggested. You may want to get a security camera too, if this becomes a habit. That'll be our next step.

by Anonymousreply 57January 9, 2020 11:20 AM

[quote]A holdover translation from something in Yiddish?

R55 The word you think is Yiddish is actually Russian in origin.

by Anonymousreply 58January 9, 2020 11:23 AM

Have any of you guys had any problems with lockers? Packages delivered to lockers have been stolen twice now. You get a notification that the package is in the locker and when you open it....empty. It is incredibly hard to argue with Amazon and get a refund bc they say I got a notification and then got the package from the locker. They did not accept that the delivery guy never put anything in the locker and probably stole my package. I get that they have to trust their employees, but not all of them are honest people. If this happens again, lockers are no longer an option for me. Seems like thieves always find a way to steal stuff. Aren't there any repercussions for drivers when lots of packages are missing?

by Anonymousreply 59January 9, 2020 11:33 AM

[quote]The word you think is Yiddish is actually Russian in origin.

And what is it, r58?

[quote]The word you think is Yiddish is actually Russian in origin.

And what is it, r58?

by Anonymousreply 61January 9, 2020 11:34 AM

I think we all use "so" to begin sentences when speaking-- it is not necessarily regional. The problem is that in the last ten years "so" has crept into writing via evolving social media conventions. In addition, news conventions have become more casual. This is especially true of NPR, whose repoorters often begin their reports with "so." It's new and it looks and sounds annoying because it's popular among a certain type of social media fanatic and among NPR reporters whose cadence and speech patterns generally grate on the nerves.

I know that language changes are natural and inevitable but I still hate "so" because of the type of person at the vanguard of this shift.

by Anonymousreply 63January 9, 2020 11:52 AM

That's not me, though, r63. I couldn't be any less of "the type of person at the vanguard of this shift." DL is my only social media, for one thing. I'm not an Eldergay...I'm an Ancientgay. And I've been starting sentences with "So..." for as long as I've been able to speak and write.

by Anonymousreply 64January 9, 2020 11:55 AM

In school you didn't learn not to begin sentences with "so" when writing? I did and I'm old but not ancient. Ironically, the media, including NPR, has done reports on the increasing prevalence of "so" as a sentence opener.

by Anonymousreply 66January 9, 2020 12:04 PM

[quote]In school you didn't learn not to begin sentences with "so" when writing?

r65, this is r64. I don't think so. I don't really remember, ttytt. It's a long, long time ago, and I already knew how to read and write when I got to school, so I didn't always pay perfect attention. The true test for me would be "Where do you put 'so' when you diagram a sentence that starts with it"? Maybe I should look into that.

Also, as r63 states, it may be something we say more than we write. And that's fine, but for me, anything I say is also writeable. Mind you, I'm not trying to create a case for starting every sentence with "so." I just don't get the serious, strenuous, nearly constant objection to it.

by Anonymousreply 67January 9, 2020 12:10 PM

I have noticed that the spoken "so" often accompanies the even more annoying female vocal fry. Especially on NPR.

I am also really getting tired of the over representation of women in the media. I am fine with having female commentaries, but you can always tell when a woman only got the position for the purpose of equality.

by Anonymousreply 68January 9, 2020 12:33 PM

Yeah, I hate vocal fry. No amount of so-saying or avoiding so-saying comes close to making my needle scratch the way vocal fry and upspeak do. Womennnn—and gayyyy mennnnnn???—soundddddlikkkke such idiottttts? When they tallllllllk likkkkkkke thattttt???

by Anonymousreply 69January 9, 2020 12:42 PM

Go to the police. Opening someone elses mail is a crime (felony, if I recal correctly).

by Anonymousreply 70January 9, 2020 12:54 PM

If OP had gone straight to the police, none of this would’ve happened.

SMH.

by Anonymousreply 72January 9, 2020 1:04 PM

You want to hear overuse of “So,...” watch Shark Tank.

Drives me nuts. EVERY response to a question starts, “So....” For a while I sincerely thought the producers coached the prospects to say it.

by Anonymousreply 73January 9, 2020 1:05 PM

This happened recently to a co worker. Her neighbor took the package A few days after amazon sent out a replacement, the neighbor shows up with the package and claims it was delivered to his house by mistake (it wasn’t) but he didn’t bring it over until he looked inside to see if it was any he wanted.

by Anonymousreply 74January 9, 2020 1:09 PM

Op here. SO (see what I did there). I appreciate all the suggestions like getting a ring camera or get a PO box, but that does not fix the issue of Amazon delivering to the wrong address. To update, I did contact Amazon when I saw the picture. They told me to wait a day and I did. I contacted them yesterday and it was a bot chat and the bot chat refunded my money on the spot!

To the other various posters. Yes, I realize it could have been stolen but I work from home so when I got the text it was delivered and I opened my door and it was not there I checked the Amazon page and saw the picture. I went back outside and walked to my two neighbors who have the railing. No package on either doorstep. It could have been the delivery person who snapped a pic then took it I guess.

This has happened to me in reverse. I got a package on my doorstep ( I use Prime a lot). and opened it. It was a new iPhone. I never ordered a new iPhone so I checked the address. It was not my address at all. Silly me I tapped it back up and walked it to my neighbor and told them what happened.

by Anonymousreply 75January 9, 2020 1:21 PM

Cameras are so cheap now. Why don't you guys get them put on your homes and if you live in an apt building, why wouldn't you demand it? They're fucking cheap. Even if if as an apt building, you all had to pay for a couple of cameras, it wouldn't cost you all more than like $30 each.

by Anonymousreply 76January 9, 2020 2:57 PM

[quote] Silly me I tapped it back up and walked it to my neighbor and told them what happened.

Why would you put a listening device on your neighbor’s new iPhone?

by Anonymousreply 77January 9, 2020 5:24 PM

R75 is a better person than I'm. If someone dropped a new iPhone off on my porch, I would definitely wait till someone asks for it or even keep it (not sure). Expensive stuff like an iPhone, laptops ect should be delivered in person and not just dropped off somewhere like a $3 body lotion. If the vendor doesn't care, why should I.

by Anonymousreply 78January 9, 2020 5:42 PM

R77 darling, just give up, dear. The poor OP obviously worked the fields among the unwashed mass, instead of getting a proper education.

by Anonymousreply 79January 9, 2020 6:26 PM

Here's a solution: move your damn asses to a brick and mortar store. All the venality described above it part of the race to the bottom and it will be lawless, down there. Fuck Bezos.

You need this man's services, OP.

by Anonymousreply 81January 9, 2020 11:31 PM

R80 I would be more than happy to move my ass to a brick and mortar store if I could find clothing my size. I have no trouble with pants, but try and find size 14 shoes and socks. Shirts, I wear an 18/36 slim fit, The only casual shirts I find that fit my shoulders leave enough room in the gut to move a family of five in.

by Anonymousreply 82January 10, 2020 1:06 AM

14 size shoe???

You know what we're going to ask, R82...

by Anonymousreply 83January 10, 2020 1:09 AM

Not to beat a dead horse but, it was delivered to the wrong address. I could have had 30 cameras around my house it would not fix it going to the wrong person.

by Anonymousreply 84January 10, 2020 1:48 AM
