So basically any source of protein or fat is overrated?
| by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 13, 2022 5:32 PM |
R2- For instance Keto Brownies- or any prepared food that emphasizes the fact that it's Keto.
| by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 13, 2022 5:36 PM |
Macaroni and Cheese can be amazing—but only rarely have I tasted it as perfect. The problem is everyone and their son make terrible versions of it

Avocado and Guacamole - most of the time it's just slimy glop. I do like making my own avocado toast but it was my godmother's thing and I've been doing it since the 80s - not a trend. I don't think guac adds much to anything - especially burgers or fries. Just more goo and fat.

Martha Stewart's roux-based Macaroni and Cheese 101 is my favorite. I wonder if OP meant this or the kind in the box.

Chicken wings and spare ribs

Thanksgiving turkey. We don’t bother anymore after it was obvious that no one was that into turkey. Easier done in immigrant families, though, because my friends came to the same conclusion and there was a fierce fight from elders who liked their traditions.

Brussels sprouts. And no, I'm not going to magically like them once I taste [italic]your[/italic] recipe.
| by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 13, 2022 8:59 PM |
So what do you eat on Thanksgiving, r10?
| by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 13, 2022 9:07 PM |
R14 Some other protein, it changes year by year. Sometimes we do a big salmon, roast beef, suckling pork, tenderloin, sea bass, etc.

Thomas' English Muffins - Once enjoyable, they're now horrible, so thin you can practically see through them. Grocery stores often have a "Buy 1 Get 2 Free" sale on them in my area.

the stinky fancy foring food that rich snots and hippies eat like tuffels and seewed.
ALL French food.
Maybe some French food, but there’s nothing like a freshly baked baguette from a Parisian boulangerie. The bread in France is sinfully good.
| by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 13, 2022 10:32 PM |
It's a "sin" to eat bread, r20?
| by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 13, 2022 10:43 PM |
Traditional Sudanese sticks and mud casserole.
| by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 13, 2022 11:08 PM |
Write a Darfur Diet Cookbook DO. I am sure a kind DLer will find a publisher for you to give you a huge advance. Then you can eat all the Sudanese dicks and mud your distended wormy belly can hold.

Omg yes to Mac and cheese. As a non American I never got the obsession. What's funny is I love pasta with 3 cheese or 4 cheese sauce, but somehow Mac and cheese as it is made in the US, socks. Bland as hell. Put some actual cheese in your Mac and cheese and we'll talk.

Also agree about TG day turkey. It's just a glorified chicken (without as great a flavor imo. I will eat it if it's there but I much prefer going with other meats on TG.

Kimchi. Anything that literal smells like a can of farts can't be good.
| by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 14, 2022 2:42 PM |
Lobster.
It has almost no flavor.
Like caviar, people have been trained to pretend it is wonderful because it is expensive.
| by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 14, 2022 2:52 PM |
Thank you for saying "macaroni and cheese," OP. "Mac and cheese" or, even worse, "mac 'n' cheese," is on my list of grating expressions. (Foreigners excepted.) Foods don't need nicknames.

Truffles, particularly truffle oil. If somebody at another table in a restaurant has ordered something with that, it makes the whole area reek.
| by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 14, 2022 2:58 PM |
Sliders are such a clever marketing scheme.
You actually pay a premium for less meat and more buns.

Macaroni and Cheese is really difficult to call out as overrated because there are so many versions. From the blue box or boiled pasta with cheese singles thrown on top up to the fancy kind with lobster and truffle oil.
I think if it’s made with a cheese sauce composed of quality European cheeses and then baked, it can be really wonderful.

"Keto" foods and along the same line, people who are into crossfit. They won't shut the fuck up about either, it's like a cult or something. I had to unfriend a few people on Facebook over this.

R330- You are quite welcome. I agree with you. Saying Mac and Cheese is supposed to bestow it with some sort of hipness like the people who get tattoos.
I say Cole Slaw . I don't say-Give me a side of slaw!

Spam is overrated. Ive tried it. Sniff.
Truffles, particularly truffle oil.
I have a friend who is a chef at a very good restaurant. He said, "People like truffle oil because they think it's fancy. The price makes them forget it tastes like kerosene."

Cheap cheese is in!!!----------
Europe, famed for its delicious gouda, brie and mozzarella, is facing shortfalls of milk. As a result, it’s buying up more U.S. cheese — the cheap, processed kind.
Europe imported 306 metric tons of cheese from the U.S. in February, more than three times as much as the average for the month over the last five years, according to trade data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Mac and cheese can be really good, but the correct way is definitely the black/soul food way. Anything else is a waste of time and calories.
I always get compliments on mine. I may be a super gay white boy, but I can cook like a sassy black chick.

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I know they're supposed to be iconically American, but that combination just doesn't work for me.

I was going to say in and out burger but somebody beat me to it. But i must say that in and out resteraunt ambiance is fantastic.

The most overrated foods are often the most popular ones. People eat it because they love it but the mind boggles about the capitalist cynicism of it all. For example. McDonalds in the USA isn't the quality food it was 50 years ago. Yet its a product that people really enjoy consuming and tell themselves its a good value, and a pleasure.

I love burgers but fast food chains like BK McD never fail to disappoint.
