Within tribal societies, it has always been preferable to marry within the tribe. That's why half of the countries in the video are Arab countries, and it's well-known that most Arab societies are still largely tribal. The same applies for Pakistan and Afghanistan—even though they're not Arab countries.

I can't believe the rate isn't much higher on those islands (Caribbean, Pacific, etc.) with very small populations.

I'm shocked. Just shocked, by the list.

Some of those countries have huge populations, yet the inbreeding rate is still this high. Means most people marry within their tribes and don't really migrate much within their country.

Yes, everything makes perfect sense now.

The Romans and later the Church broke up the clans of Europe by imposing consanguinity laws.

Prohibited degree of kinship by country @ link below-
As of February 2010, 30 U.S. states prohibit most or all marriage between first cousins, and a bill is pending in Maryland that would prohibit most first cousins from marrying. Six states prohibit marriages between first cousins once removed. Some states that prohibit cousin marriage recognize cousin marriages performed in other states.

Cousin marriage has been a way to retain wealth and property within a family.

This is getting into genetics, I think that inbreeding isn't the problem in African populations, there is so much DNA in Africans that the chance of a random match up is low. Someone check it out. This is not like the Pakistanis in the UK.

It's cultural crap they bring over to America too. I have a coworker who is married to her first cousin. She acts totally normal and Americanized, so I was shocked. She's Muslim, although she's not religious at all, she's expected to only marry someone from her background.

This made me chuckle. Cynically, that is.
If she married her first cousin r14, she's religious AF, I have news for you.
In fact most are savagely religious. It's the price of admission into their death cult. Religious fanaticism and Islam can't be separated.

Who's "they"? .. Cousin marriage was legal almost everywhere in the U.S. until the late-19th. early-20th century when eugenics movements started to crop up. It's still perfectly legal in over 19 states, with 7 others allowing it in some cases. Many are surprised to learn that more urban states like California and New York actually allow cousin marriage, while some stereotypical hillbilly states like West Virginia and Arkansas do not.

One of my aunts ran and won a seat in our state legislature. One of her campaign issues was the right if first cousins to marry. Albeit only if 65 or otherwise unable to bear children. I'm pretty sure she got it passed.

It's still legal in Britain, I think. It was mainly used by the aristocracy/upper class to prevent having to marry outside of their class.

According to OP's link - I find it very hard to believe there is little to no inbreeding in Russia. Some of them look very inbred and a bit slow.

That’s the fetal alcohol syndrome, not inbreeding.

I’ve worked with a lot of afghanis and they are crazy as hell and act like it’s still the Middle Ages. I have no trouble believing they’re inbred. They talk about weird shit like being afraid to go out after dark like everybody else understands
