I didn't understand it either until this World Cup. Most of the games are pretty boring, but when you have 2 strong teams battling to the end, it's a nailbiter. The egos and the drama produced by certain players is fun too. I will probably just stick to watching the WC though much like I only watch certain other sports during the Olympics. Without the drama of the big stage, it's not nearly as interesting.

It is surprising that he does seem rather scandal-free. Maybe not everyone likes him, but at least they respect him. Very different from Ronaldo or Diego Maradona. I was in Argentina recently and Maradona is treated as a god there...he has a statue in the airport and there are tributes and murals to him everywhere.
