I grew a beard as a young man with a cleft chin as it was difficult to shave cleanly. When I did shave my beard my partner, who'd been with me for more than ten years at that point, was amused that I had such a deep dimple that he hadn't known about. I've regrown the beard because I'm lazy.

I come from a very large family (over 13 kids) and only a sister and I have cleft chins. My dad had one so I think we got it from him. My sister are the only ones who have dimples, too. What's weird is that we cannot think of any relatives who have dimples. I would love to know where we got our dimples from.

r65 I'm r27. Problems with the cleft are why I've had a beard most of my adult life. I otherwise had an eighth inch of unshaveable dark red tuft which would become ingrown if I really went after it with a razor. Probably wouldn't be as noticeable now that my beard is gray.
