Matt Bomer return to White Collar?
William Jenkins
He’s teasing on Twitter and Instagram that it could happen.

How many more threads are you people going to start on this man!?!?!
Good LORD!
With all due respect miss, I have problems of my own!
| by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 5, 2020 12:11 PM |
Why don’t you just scroll on by R1? This thread is about the White Collar TV show.
| by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 5, 2020 12:20 PM |
They are probably going to do a live table read like everyone else is doing.
The creator is looking to reboot the series, but given the show’s heavy reliance on location shooting in New York City, it’s unlikely to get an order anytime soon. Additionally Disney owns the show now and they aren’t really looking for off-brand content.
| by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 5, 2020 12:30 PM |
Jeff Eastin and the other cast members are all interested. They seem to think there is a chance.

Why don't you go start Matt Bomer #13 and consolidate everything into one thread, OP?
There's literally nothing even confirmed here.
And I agree with R4, it's likely a table read unless they found some way to get the show's owners, since it had two, to allow them to come back again.
And even THEN if they were able to do that, who knows when they'd be able to shoot anything again.
| by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 5, 2020 12:40 PM |
Nothing is confirmed, but it is active gossip about a popular TV show with a gay leading actor. This is not a thread about Bomer’s face or ass.
| by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 5, 2020 1:38 PM |
I hope a reboot happens, OP. Watching Tim DeKay and Matt Bomer together was a lot of fun.

needs to be on a channel that allows nudity.

They are doing a cast reunion on "Stars in the House" tomorrow.
| by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 6, 2020 5:03 PM |
I've heard of Matt of course, but what show now?
| by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 6, 2020 11:06 PM |
Of course Jeff Eastin wants to bring it back, he hasn’t had anything on the air in years.
Among the reasons it won’t come back: it was poorly rated in the final years; Disney owns the show and they don’t need it; USA (Comcast) probably wouldn’t buy it from Disney; USA has already announced a move away from scripted programming; Bomer’s last project at USA, The Sinner, was poorly rated; and the series, which was distinguished by extensive location shooting in New York, would be unable to do that probably for at least a year.
| by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 6, 2020 11:10 PM |
Maybe in a couple of years.
| by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 6, 2020 11:14 PM |
R12 the last season of The Sinner was awful. It's not Pullman's or Bomer's fault though, they did the best they could with that terrible, mucked up story.
| by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 6, 2020 11:16 PM |
I imagine that ANYTHING that hopes to shoot before the end of the year will have to have stories that can be filmed largely on closed sets.
| by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 6, 2020 11:18 PM |
R11 White Collar wasTV drama on USA efrom 2009-2014. It’s currently available on Hulu. The writer and stars are lobbying for a reboot.
it was poorly rated in the final years;
The ratings are [bold]not[/bold] what got the show cancelled. He has said as much and that's not entirely wrong. (It was a change in USA heads who wanted the axing of blue skies shows.)
Suits made it 9 seasons with worse ratings than White Collar.
The Sinner Season 2 AND 3 had worse ratings compared to White Collar.
Disney owns the show and they don’t need it; USA (Comcast) probably wouldn’t buy it from Disney;
This is true which he has also said at least for the first two.
USA has already announced a move away from scripted programming;
No clue on this.
Bomer’s last project at USA, The Sinner, was poorly rated;
It was poorly rated. The network will place the blame on Derek Simonds.
As for Matt, it really means nothing in the long run. He was that season's guest star. It wasn't squarely his show and White Collar was already a proven success.
and the series, which was distinguished by extensive location shooting in New York, would be unable to do that probably for at least a year.
This part is true.
Besides that:
There have been multiple times the cast has said they'd like the show back and he's usually silent. He isn't silent this time. I think a lot of this has to do with that meme that went floating around. Thousands and thousands of likes and retweets and the person that trended was him. Matt Bomer. And why did he trend? Because people remembered him from White Collar.
It was his most successful project and I'd wager it was a reminder that it's the one people will remember him for.

I can’t remember which trade had the article that talked about it but this recent one from Deadline mentions it:
uce.
“USA’s decision to cancel Dare Me comes as the network shifts toward live and unscripted programming and focuses its future scripted on more eventized projects, such as the Evel miniseries, starring Milo Ventimiglia. USA’s current scripted lineup includes Queen of the South, The Sinner, Briarpatch, The Purge, Treadstone and Dirty John, which moved to USA from Bravo.”
Suits made it 9 seasons with worse ratings than White Collar.
Because it was made by Universal Cable Production; it was in-house. WC was made by Fox.
So basically we are in the era of the dying basic cable network, no one wants to put scripted on basic cable any more. Disney just moved NatGeo’s The Right Stuff to DisneyPlus. If White Collar has been produced by Universal or Warner Bros it would probably end up on Peacock or HBOMax because those are desperate for content, but since Disney owns it it’s not going anywhere. It’s not trendy enough for Hulu and it’s not on-brand enough for Disney Plus.

Article on Deadline confirms most of what was said above.

None of this contradicts what I said about the ratings not being the reason the show was cancelled?
Oh, wait. That's because you're nitpicking because you also skipped over analyzing The Sinner.
The point is the standards of what the network will air are lower than average unless you're talking about the CW or something.
So basically we are in the era of the dying basic cable network, no one wants to put scripted on basic cable any more.
Actually there were 532 scripted shows produced last year which is more than ever in this history of television.
It’s not trendy enough for Hulu and it’s not on-brand enough for Disney Plus.
You are wrong about Hulu.
We're not disagreeing that the show is owned by two entities. We are disagreeing that it's possible that it couldn't come back. I posit that there's more going on here than any of us know. A series? Probably not. A movie? If both studios would agree and there's good money involved probably.
I just don't think Matt Bomer would be speaking on this issue if there wasn't an actual chance it could come back since he usually plays it safe. He hasn't participated in their reindeer games before when it comes to bringing back the show. Also the way he acted after The Last Tycoon promo was complete and Billy Ray was trying to get the show back on the air vs. the way he's behaving now are two different things. Nobody wants to seem desperate. A smart person would wait until there was a real chance, approach the lead actor and see if he bites. For some weird reason he is biting.

And how many of them were on basic cable? You stupid cow.
And White Collar was cancelled because it had fallen out of favor at USA and was given a long hiatus and an unfavorable winter premiere for season five, where it plummeted in the ratings. Then they prolonged the season six renewal for so long that the casts’ options were about to expire. The rumor is that the network was unhappy with Bomer.

R7 yeah, Matt Boner is fuck’n hot
| by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 7, 2020 4:13 AM |
R22 Because he came out? Or because he starred in The Normal Heart at the same time? Maybe he was complaining about his commute between LA and NY? His costars have all raved about how nice he was. He doesn’t have a reputation for being difficult.
| by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 7, 2020 9:42 PM |
I don't know why they were unhappy with him, but that is the rumor. Around the same time, they stopped using Simon Halls for PR. They were unhappy with both of them.

I like the show as well. I’d like some nudity in this one. He needs to show his buns daily.
| by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 7, 2020 9:56 PM |
I liked the character of Mozzie too. And I liked the wife of the FBI guy. I liked everybody in this show. They could bring him back by way of Paris. He comes across something there that is going to be dangerous to somewhere in America and comes back to warn his buddy at FBI and helps him thwart it. They could set it anywhere. But I agree NYC was a huge part of watching the show. But when he was off on that island, it still worked.

Tiffani was very good in the role.

More encouraging words about bringing back WC during the reunion show. Who knows? Would they be teasing if there is no possibility?
I like the show as well. I’d like some nudity in this one.
I used to love this show and I hope it comes back.
But nudity? I don't think it should have that at all. One of the reasons it's so beloved is that it was always TV-PG so anyone could watch it and many people have since it went off and onto streaming. Why ruin that?
You can see that man's ass in many other projects.
| by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 8, 2020 4:02 AM |
Did the guy who played Mozzie ever come out?
| by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 8, 2020 4:07 AM |
The cast reunion was pretty fun. Matt remarked how ironic it was that he made out with all the women in the show but no guys at all. And he was wearing shorts.

I really enjoyed the show. Put it on FX or something. Show as much of Matt and Tim's asses as they can
| by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 8, 2020 12:40 PM |
Most of that reunion show was entertaining. Matt and the Mozzie guy are funny/witty and they all seem to have a sense of humor and fun. They were very easy with each other. Nice to see.
