They're trying to make this the new "Running Up That Hill" but it ain't gonna happen.

by Anonymousreply 4January 31, 2023 6:01 PM

Is it featured in some show or film, r4?

by Anonymousreply 5January 31, 2023 6:32 PM

Yes, R5. The Last of Us on HBO. It's #2 on the iTunes singles chart now since the episode aired on Sunday.

I remember the first time I saw her, around 1969/1970, I thought it was Sally Field singing. Wow, she was awesome.

It's sentimental kitsch, but I always loved it. Glad to hear it's getting a second life, she deserves to be better known.

I'd love it if "Long, Long Time" became the new "Running up That Hill." I didn't notice it when first came out (1970). I heard it for the first time when my first gay boyfriend (I thought) played it at me while breaking up with me. This was in 1976. I didn't even know Linda Ronstadt was still around.

I went to Disc-O-Mat the next day, and bought Hasten down the Wind, Prisoner in Disguise, and Heart like a Wheel. Later I realized that Different Drum was the album to buy. But those three allowed me to dig in and wallow like I had never done before. Still, "Long, Long Time" is the song that reminds me of my first breakup.

I see a lot of disdain for Linda on here, but I absolutely love her and think her singing is a national treasure.

r10 here again. Years later, I realized he played the second side of Different Drum lots of nights when we got together. The song that made the biggest impression on me was "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?", which was always on my mind when I couldn't fall asleep at his apartment. Turns out it's the last song on the side that started with "Long, Long Time."

Linda was my go-to after break-ups.

by Anonymousreply 13January 31, 2023 7:24 PM

R7 Linda and Sally actually have a project in common. Can you name it?

by Anonymousreply 14January 31, 2023 7:28 PM

I don't get the hype over this song.

by Anonymousreply 17January 31, 2023 8:04 PM

That song was stupid too r4

by Anonymousreply 18January 31, 2023 8:05 PM

So strange. I don’t watch The Last of Us but I was just listening to this song on YouTube in the last week or so. Not sure why it popped in my head but I’ve always liked it. DL fave Kim Carnes recorded a version for the 1977 film Heroes. Not as tortured as Linda’s but I like Kim’s version as well. Starts at about 15:15 in the link

Heard that on the car radio when it first came out. My friends and I were smoking dope and went silent during the entire song, we were wowed by Linda's voice.

R26 Totally forgot about that. Thanks! Mr. Plow! That was great and the Mr. Plow (Rosebud) commercial was hilarious.

Seth Rudetsky was apparently the one to suggest it.

You GO, gurl!

I probably won't be able to listen to this song ever again. That TLOU episode was just too much for me.

I adore Linda's voice and this is a great song although it's far from one of her best.
