R2 had never been out there.

There's a facebook page called "Boys of Fire Island" Join that and see that people will ask for availability for specific days. Those who have room will reply.

Op, there's a hotel there--The Belvedere, I believe, but it's expensive of course ($400/night)
| by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 2, 2022 8:44 PM |
Yes you can find air b&b and other such listing for a week at a time usually

R3 I've no intention of going out there. McDonalds for the gay community

Meh R7. You don't even know there are no bathhouses. You seem to have a few negative stereotypes and imaginations about the place. It can be quite pretty in addition to being hot or fun. Barrier islands are unique climates.

It's an extraordinary place because, like Provincetown, you completely let your guard down about being gay. Even people who are open about being gay still have a veneer separating them from straight society around them. In Fire Island, even that veneer melts about. It's a pretty wonderful feeling.
People of all types go so don't think it's just muscle marys.

Fire Island is what you make it.
There's the party-muscle-queens, sure, but there are tons of other kinds of people.
It's your fault if you only notice one sort.

The biggest problem with Fire Island is how hard it is to figure out housing there.

Not many places to stay, a couple in the Grove and the ultimate cinder block trap, the Botel in the Pinrs. There are a couple B&Bs in the Pines, otherwise you can rent a house if you get lucky. Those who write off the Pined and Grove as McDonalds or anything else, ignore. water Island, the Pines, and the Grove are uniquely different beautiful and fun. I’ve traveled all over the world including the great destinations for gay men and Fire Island is definitely one of them. It is also a unique place physically as are all the towns on Fire Island- none more beautiful than the Pines. All kinds of men go there, not just the gym rats and NYC party types. Also gay men from NC a ll over the world visit. I make a point of a visit or two every summer and I’m never disappointed and I’m long past my physical prime and party days.

Plan to get laid every night and spend the night wherever your trick takes you.
Pack a small rolling suitcase.

Didn't almost the entire island burn a few years ago?
| by Anonymous | reply 15 | June 2, 2022 11:07 PM |
No, just a big entertainment complex burned
| by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 2, 2022 11:28 PM |
Well, Better luck next time.

R15 yes indeed, its true. And then the year after, they had checks at the ferry dock - no under 7 inch dicks and no back fat.

The Belvedere is nice but you pay a lot for the atmosphere. The pool is tiny and ice cold. And it can be treacherous to climb the winding stairs to the roof deck. I'm surprised there have not been more accidents there.

For a good time, wander into a house with "All Trespassers Will Be Violated" sign.

The Belvedere is creepy as fuck. In my opinion.
| by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 3, 2022 12:20 AM |
Fire Island is a relic of the past.

r21: The Belvedere looks to me like a fire trap.
| by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 3, 2022 2:58 AM |
The fire was no doubt caused by one of the hundreds of meth pipes on the island.

It’s a major problem - extremely limited options. Houses are insanely expensive. For just one or two people, there about 10 rooms in the pines. It’s kind of ridiculous - but it will always be like that. A 3 month a year business is a losing proposition.

I looked online rooms at the Ice Palace are available. I haven't been out in ages but I've stayed there. Not glamorous but functional and can be fun. Used to be one of the least expensive places.
