Let's Discuss Brooke Smith
William Jenkins
She's rather below-the-radar, but her resume proves she's not exactly a B-movie star. If you know her at all, it's from Grey's Anatomy, The Silence of the Lambs, Weeds, or Big Sky.
The New York set raves about her acting range, and she has plenty of true friends in the business. She's not a leading lady, but she seems effortlessly comfortable with that.
What does DL think of actors who have talent AND humility? If they're not at the Emmys or in the tabloids, are they still beloved? The worst anyone can say about Brooke Smith is that they know her performances but not her name.

Was she that big fat girl from Silence of the Lambs?

Brooke Elliott is better - for real

Didn't they hate her so bad on Gray's anatomy that they practically yanked her mid scene with a shepherd's crook.

Her mom was PR powerhouse Lois Smith.
My brother was in the hardcore punk scene on the lower east side in the 80s and knew her. She could’ve been a spoiled bitch of privilege - but she hung out with all the queer gutter punks instead.
Her book of photography from that era is great (im biased - my brother is in it).
She’s an interesting character actor too.

I’ve always liked her in what she’s been in.

Roomy in the hips.

Most working actors would be happy at her age to have had her career. She's steadily had decent work.

And you can use her face to stop clocks.

She just spent a weekend at the Silence of the Lambs house - a girl's gotta eat, I guess.

"Series 7: The Contenders" (2001) is a great satire on reality TV, and she's excellent in one of her few sizable screen roles. Highly recommended.

R9 says that because she looks like a normal human being instead of Margot Robbie.
Meanwhile, r9:

R3 Yup, they basically fired her mid episode. I think that was a Steve McPherson thing.

Thanks for the info r4! That must've been a cool scene to be a part of. I'm currently rewatching Six Feet Under and she plays an instructor at Cal Arts or whatever they call it on the show. We mainly see her in the classroom during critiques and she really conveys how those can go. When Claire says "I took that photo because it captured x" and the instructor is like "Do you really think you accomplished that? Does the image convey that?" and Claire of course gets all squirmy and defensive.

Then again if Grey's found the pairing of Callie and Hahn lacking, they should have fired Sara Ramirez instead of Brooke, because few performers on TV over the last 20 years have been as chemistry free, unappealing and as REPELLANT as Sara aka Che Diaz.

Yeah. Wasn't Sarah's initial story in greys was that she was a gross repulsive sewer person.
